BrickCity
Hearing the name Jamey Chadwell from Liberty mentioned a few times as a big candidate to move up the chain. I would love this hire as a State fan, and think it would add some excitement with the current players we have on roster

We will see if that goes anywhere. Supposedly he may have a problematic buyout, his salary at Liberty is like $4M and this is his first year there. There are also some reservations about him never having coached in a major conference and the offense he runs is a little funky. Kinda triple option but also they throw a lot so not really. But the guy is a winner for sure. His record as a head coach is super impressive. And only 46, so seemingly right in the prime of his coaching career. He will be a Power 5 head coach soon, just not sure if it’s State or someone else. Edited November 14, 2023 by Dawg83

I am not a big fan of the experiments with head coaches but if we were to hire Chadwell, it wouldn't scare me

He will be a Power 5 head coach soon, just not sure if it’s State or someone else. His offense is triple option principles but utilizes spread formations and personnel. He uses other plays to employ the triple look and not just zone or veer. He also will tag the modern RPOs and Play action off of it. It is definitely a lot more fun to watch than traditional option offenses but has the same difficulties of defending it. It is pretty impressive honestly how they do it and they do not have to have big, huge OL to execute it either. To me, it fits the type of players State usually pulls in. He's an experienced head football coach. Selmon needs to make him say no.
maroontide06
Pay the dang buyout and get him to Starkville. State has money to work with, so settling shouldn't be on the table. Get the coach you want with the bells and whistles that you want. The Chadwell hire for Selmon will be at the minimum a 3 run shot and if the bases are loaded, then it's a grand slam hire. Selmon's not gonna lose by making a Chadwell hire and I don't foresee that backfiring on him.
Dawg83
There is now a Chadwell tweet (possibly fake) going around that says his location last night was Starkville, MS. It’s either one heck of a photoshop or our guy just let something slip. Peak coaching search content either way. Almost like tracking airplanes or Jimbo putting his Christmas tree by the road in Tallahassee.

It could be, but that location thing seems to get it right most of the time.
coastfootballfanman
I think it is legit. I saw on Twitter some folks who are "insiders" for Liberty Athletics tweeting out that it was a legit photo and that he deleted the tweet, went back and changed the location to Earth. Hard to trust the internet, but I am hopeful it is legit. I also read on some message boards at Liberty that State and Chadwell began conversations the week of Kentucky game. Again, hard to trust it, but there appears to be a lot of smoke.

Dawg83
We’ll see on return interest but Chadwell, Fritz, and Leipold are the names that have been in the early conversation per some State insiders. I’m wishy washy on how I feel about Fritz. I think Chadwell would be a home run. I think Leipold would be a grand slam. Now hiring Leipold would require you to pay some real big boy money but it would be quite a statement. I tend to think it’s probably unlikely. But if those are the kind of guys Selmon is targeting I think he’s hunting in the right neck of the woods.

Ole Miss fans would probably walk out of the stadium right after it happened.

Eagleman1228
Just out of curiosity are there any potential candidates with ties to Selmon/Oklahoma? Jeff Lebby? I would hate to see what the Bible Belt would do if his father in law showed up considering the out cry sooner fans gave earlier this year. Shane Beamer is a close friend of Selmon with heavy Starkville ties. Don’t think that’s happening though, nor would most State fans be crazy about it. Dawg83
Not to change the conversation too much, but apparently UCLA is about to fire Chip Kelly. Here is your odds-on favorite for this year’s helping of Kiffin rumors.

MSTSatchmo
Lanning has publicly said he isn’t going to leave Oregon. Kiffin has said a cryptic “I’m not going there again” when asked about other job openings. Unless I’ve missed a more recent comment from Kiffin about it, he should take notes from Lanning.
