From my understanding this will be a 3-4 year stint for Boyles idk how much he’ll get done in that time frame but he can at the very last have Petal in playoff contention

This is probably why he left Meridian. That rebuild was going to take longer than he wanted and was going to require just too much time and energy. At Petal it's not hard to win the recruiting battle against Hattiesburg High and you split 50/50 with OG.

Petal does not recruit. That's an OG thing. We usually just have some kids that decide to move out of Richton or North Forest and into our district.

What a hire for Petal, there is no reason with the resources they have not to be a playoff contender year in and year out. Boyles knows how to coach them up. Petal has a lot more kids in k-6th than 7-12th. They will improve over time. I hate it for Meridian though, they need all the help they can get.

At his age (I think he is 71-72 years old), I don’t think Coach Weems would want the HC gig. I think he still enjoys working with the kids though. It is just in his blood.

Cheyenne is a good AD and though Coach Boyles leaving is a tough blow, he will find a good coach to come to Meridian.

Petal is a high floor/low ceiling team. Whereas Meridian with the right coach has a much higher ceiling than Petal. The floor is also much lower though. From what I understand the Jr. High program made great strides this year so there is some momentum in place. And even though Hill is graduating, there is a good nucleus of players coming back. So the cupboard is by no means bare.
I agree with CC, that Meridian is in a perilous position and this hire has to be really a good one.

Well Meridian is playing at Petal Friday. Neither team is very good. So I have no idea what may happen. Meridian had been playing better football but then in the second half of the NWR game we completely collapsed. The loser is this game is toast for the playoffs while the winner will stay a chance.
Give Petal the edge since they are home. Not sure what effect Boyles leaving Meridian will have since he was only here one year.
We will see.

Meridian has reverted back to exactly what they were before Boyles got there.
