pantherpride1999
I told yal big news was coming. Look for Petal to be a south contender again with the best coach in the state.
Dubaction
From my understanding this will be a 3-4 year stint for Boyles idk how much he’ll get done in that time frame but he can at the very last have Petal in playoff contention
pantherpride1999
I am optimistic. I think Petal can compete with Brandon for the region next year.
Dubaction
OG and Brandon (should) reload. Pearl will be good. Petal could get the 4th seed.

That rebuild was going to take longer than he wanted and was going to require just too much time and energy. At Petal it's not hard to win the recruiting battle against Hattiesburg High and you split 50/50 with OG.

We usually just have some kids that decide to move out of Richton or North Forest and into our district.
Dubaction
I guess you just so happen to get like 4-5 Poplarville kids too huh? Also tell me what area is growing faster ? Oak Grove or Petal? Edited December 8, 2023 by Dubaction

Eagleman1228
What a hire for Petal, there is no reason with the resources they have not to be a playoff contender year in and year out. Boyles knows how to coach them up. Petal has a lot more kids in k-6th than 7-12th. They will improve over time. I hate it for Meridian though, they need all the help they can get. ccbulldog
I had heard mid season that Boyles was having a hard time getting control of the players, who hadn't really been coached hard since Weems left. I dismissed it at the time. Edited December 8, 2023 by ccbulldog
Dubaction
He never even bothered to move to Meridian from what I was told.
choctawman
He will not be living in Petal either. He bought a home on Lake Eddins before he retired from Petal the first time. He was 30 minutes from Meridian, will be one hour from Petal. Lake Eddins is in Pachuta, Ms. Edited December 8, 2023 by choctawman
Merlin
I feel like this is a money grab as obviously he doesn’t care to win a title any more going back to petal. But hey, can’t fault a man if they want to fork over some cash to just get in the playoffs. Edited December 8, 2023 by Merlin

Bulldogs4
At his age (I think he is 71-72 years old), I don’t think Coach Weems would want the HC gig. I think he still enjoys working with the kids though. It is just in his blood. Cheyenne is a good AD and though Coach Boyles leaving is a tough blow, he will find a good coach to come to Meridian. Petal is a high floor/low ceiling team. Whereas Meridian with the right coach has a much higher ceiling than Petal. The floor is also much lower though. From what I understand the Jr. High program made great strides this year so there is some momentum in place. And even though Hill is graduating, there is a good nucleus of players coming back. So the cupboard is by no means bare. I agree with CC, that Meridian is in a perilous position and this hire has to be really a good one. Bulldogs4
Well Meridian is playing at Petal Friday. Neither team is very good. So I have no idea what may happen. Meridian had been playing better football but then in the second half of the NWR game we completely collapsed. The loser is this game is toast for the playoffs while the winner will stay a chance. Give Petal the edge since they are home. Not sure what effect Boyles leaving Meridian will have since he was only here one year. We will see.
