The majority of schools in this state, especially those 4A and larger, try to get 1 or 2 a year.  It’s a “secret” that everyone knows but does not want to talk about. Except for Hattiesburg and Tupelo, who are the most brazen with it.

Gulfport didn't really hide theirs last year and it led straight to a title, and no one said a word.

No one is ever going to "turn in someone" anymore. Lets be truly honest, especially at the 5a 6a 7a classes where a title contender has not had someone "move in" to help their team out this season

Not completely true, there are several on the coast that report each other every year, and proof has to be sent in. Rare in football, it's more common in the other sports.

Ok, but why has it gotten tough for Hattiesburg to stay relevant?  Is there not enough talent within the Hattiesburg School District to win with who you have?  People legitimately moving in is one thing, but to go out and actively recruit players that would have had nothing to do with Hattiesburg had they not been "recruited" is a totally different thing.  These players have no ties to Hattiesburg otherwise.

Gotten tough for to Hattiesburg stay relevant??? I mean what more do you want besides win state??? And how do you know these kids have nothing to do with Hattiesburg??? Because I personally know a few of them and where do you think their relatives graduated from and this isn't anything new. The whole Vance era was dominated by transfers and even before Vance transfers wasn't uncommon; just wasn't publicly talked about like now. The 2 best players in school history arent even homegrown (somewhat). Kids come and go. Since this is even a topic let's talk about the kids that transferred from hhs this past year.

Yes, kids do come and go. Parents get new jobs,..etc.etc...

But, when a transfer happens to be a kid that had a standout year at a 1A-4A school, and was actively recruited

by those connected to the program, or even by coaches. That's the Beef. That's crossing the line.

We have always been relevant. I do not believe if HHS was going 4-6 or worse and missing the playoffs that players would  come to HHS. They see an opportunity to go to the next level. I mean when kids see Hugh Freeze (when he was at Auburn) or Josh Heupel from Tennessee and other SEC or ACC coaches making personal visits to your school players and their parents see that and know that the best opportunity for their child may be to go play elsewhere. Everyone must face reality now, the days of hometown pride and little kids growing up and saying when I grow up I want to be the best player at ABC high school. Its now I wanna go play where I can play for a winning school and get noticed so I can play D1 college football and get NIL money.

There's nothing wrong with having a goal set to win a state championship.  Is there anything sacred to you about high school football anymore or is it a "win at all costs" kind of thing?  I realize you want to see Hattiesburg win a state title in the current era, but how do you want Hattiesburg to go about winning it?

See I have to differ with you on this because there does seem to be a hierarchy of who can do this and who can’t. I’m not picking on you guys with this but once about every 10 or 15 years, they have to slap you guys hands in one form or another for doing this kind of thing. Meanwhile, you hear whispers of others doing it, but nothing really official ever comes out. It also seems that the association looks the other way as long as the schools doing the recruiting are pulling from the down trodden . Example everyone knows what was going on with petal and Anthony Alford but it was all just a wink and a nod. But when they started messingng with Poplarville it became public and they scolded Petal. Look at how Poplarville came up after that..

The cold hard fact of the matter is that it is all being run by a bunch of good old boys who cite very ambiguous policies to enforce their so-called fairness. There needs to be new rules adopted to meet the demands of modern times. If they don’t that association is just living on very borrowed time.

Gone are the days when you would see old folks sitting around the local coffee shop discussing the game on Friday morning or what happened after the game on Saturday morning.

As long as the system remains, things will never change. High school athletics being run by a private organization with zero oversight under the control of a handful of former ADs and coaches while pulling massive paydays. The fought hard against NIL because they couldn't get a cut. It's all about their bottom line.

And that's fine.  I'm just a firm believer in the game rewarding you when you go about playing it the right way.  Just look at Poplarville from two years ago for example.  I think winning a state title is a whole lot sweeter when you do it in house with home grown folks who are intertwined within the community.  That's proof that old-fashioned hard work pays off.

In what way do you think players are being recruited to leave? Are they going to these 7 vs 7 camps and players are asking players to leave their school and join them or maybe the coaches are doing that as well? I just cant see a high school coach recruiting a kid they way college coaches do and go make an "in house visit" and try to sell his program to him telling him why he needs to be there.

Absolutely why they were against NIL.  Not only that but also against school choice.  Some schools, typically smaller ones, are getting kids from other small school programs with just a hope of winning title. And some people are making money off it.  If suddenly school choice is a thing it will devastate most small school programs in this state. Including some that are right now able to line a few people’s pockets.

They don't have to or need to make an "in house visit".  It can all happen over social media now. That's all these kids

know now anyway. I'm sure players are talking amongst themselves too, at 7 on 7 or where ever and that's fine.

But, for a highly connected booster or coach to directly contact/initiate interest with a potential transfer is just

plain wrong to me.

Or parents feel like this school gives their child a better chance to succeed. At the end of the day these parents gotta sign off on everything

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying, Are you guys under the impression that all that needs to happen is for the parents to sign something and the new #11 just trots out to practice ?   Or do you mean something  different ?

I do find it funny how Hattiesburg is now the cool school to play at in the pine belt and still can’t buy a state title meanwhile Oak Grove is up to 3 now.

You are not alone.

And it’s getting obvious they feel the heat.

Let petal mess around and win one before Hattiesburg it will cause bedlam.

My friend, in house visits happen frequently. All over the state. Heck here on the coast, I can confirm 100% that Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula and d'Iberville brought kids who were not enrolled to tour their campus and facilities. AD's and Admin meeting with them as well. It is pretty much out in the open, the problem is nobody wants to report anyone because everyone is pretty much doing it. Very few schools are doing it and the ones who are not, are typically your poorer performing programs.

It isnt that they are the cool school to play at now. Who is to say that some of the ones who moved in didnt check out Oak Grove or Petal before coming to Hattiesburg. Oak Grove is pretty much loaded every year and after looking things over he realized he may not be too high on the depth chart. Where as for HHS they only had one legitimate WR returning and he realized he could play right away.
