Baseball Season 2025

Looks like we might be dodging rain showers this weekend. If the games get played, they could have huge implications on the postseason. Each team desperately needs to win two to move toward their aspirations. Ole Miss to host and State to simply stay alive.
Really should be a great series and hopefully both teams play their best baseball in each game.

Regarding the coaching search, Brian O’Connor would be an excellent choice (IMHO). He is only 54 so age is not a factor. His teams at VA have seemingly always pitched well, played good fundamental defense and most importantly won baseball games (including a NC in 2015). Just listening to the scuttlebutt, VA does not really care to invest in baseball. Obviously it is a long way to go but he and some of the other names I have heard, would all make good HC for the Diamond Dawgs!!

But first things first…let’s play some baseball this weekend.

O'Connor, right now, is my top pick.  If they have to go the assistant route I think I go after Elander. Don't really want anybody with State ties.

What a game he pitched! 8 innings of shut out ball with zero walks and 15 strikeouts.

And kept our season going. Realistically that second game was a must win for State.
And if you are Maddox, you are saying “dang, any other night, I have a win.”
A very pivotal third game is coming up. Most likely, tomorrow but they did say they would monitor the weather today for a possible window to play.

Apparently the rubber game is now today at 7 pm.

Yep, they’ve yo-yo’d the times around this weekend to avoid weather. We will see when this game actually gets played. May be a wet affair.

For State, I think you’ve ultimately just gotta win 3 of these last 4 SEC games and you’re in. If you win tonight, need to take two from Mizzou. if you lose tonight, probably have to sweep Mizzou.

Also, shout out to Mizzou, finally won an SEC game last night. Improved their record to 1-24. lol.

Ole Miss needs to win this third game to stay alive for a host, IMO. Auburn is playing as well as anyone in the country right now and that will be a tough series next weekend, even in Oxford.

That game had no business being close. But the series win is the most important thing.

State should clinch an NCAAT bid with two wins at Mizzou next weekend. Mizzou, who is now the hottest team in the country suddenly with their two game winning streak lol. Ruining A&M’s season this weekend.

Huge win. But gosh we sure make it hard on ourselves. 11-6 in the conference since the 1-9 start.
Suddenly Missouri looks to be a difficult series now. Kind of glad that they finally won a game and now two games. Should make our guys razor focused for the series.

And with all the series starting Thursday, State gets some advantage by finishing this series on Saturday whereas Missouri has to play tomorrow. I know we play UNA but that will be an inning per pitcher type game Tuesday.

Absolutely critical to win two and as crazy as it sounds, if we sweep Missouri, we will finish.500 in the league. Again doubtful that happens but it would be amazing if we actually did so.

I mean Mizzou has been swept 8 times this year so definitely can’t rule it out. But they have also weirdly had State’s number in recent years. Think State is 5-7 against Mizzou since 2018. The biggest WTF being them winning two game in Starkville against the 2021 national title team.

I know it’s off topic a bit but Elko got called up yesterday and got his first MLB hit a homer today. I don’t think there is a more beloved player in OM baseball history. And he deserves everything that comes to him. Also Nikhazy and Hoglund made their debut last week and Rolison got called up today.

Oh joy, Missouri will be coming off a sweep of A&M. Gonna be a cat/dog fight up there this weekend. Still need to find a way to win two, regardless.

Honestly Mizzou sweeping A&M may be the best thing that could’ve happened for State. The pressure of being the first to lose to them is gone and the risk of State overlooking them is lower, most likely.

USM completes the sweep of UL and on a 12 game win streak. For whatever reason they have been stuck around 20th

in the polls. They are closing in on another 40 win season, their 9th in a row, no one else in the nation has 8.
Time for them to move up into regional host conversions.
