Who is next at OS?

If the bridge is still intact, they need to go get Stockstill.  He's got the experience/trophy cabinet to get the job done.  Not that an in-house hire would be a disappointment, but when you get the opportunity to get a multiple gold ball winner (regardless of state) you go after that opportunity.  If Bramlett is a great football coach looking for an opportunity to start somewhere it might behoove him or Lampley to look at the PRC job.  I'm certainly not trying to hijack this thread, but PRC needs a culture change and someone like those two fit the bill.

I was told Eric Collier (who would've probably left to take the job at USA anyway) changed his mind after being told he had to teach so many periods.

Mississippi is really hamstrung in this way after I've heard of similar situations at other schools, impeding the attractiveness of the job.

According to folks pulling out and someone else being offered, he was basically the last standing.

That’s fair, but not the whole story. First, I think it was surprising the number of candidates was so low for what I consider a premier program. The Orange Beach coach Dubose was never coming to MS, just using this for leverage in his own salary negotiations. Nobody expected an established coach to leave OG, so his pulling out wasn’t surprising. So it came down to a good coach in a lower classification and the most talented upcoming offensive coordinator in the state. Add in the continuity with keeping assistants in place, the weight and nutrition program that was built by him remaining, and the players buy in with Bramlette, and I think O.S. knocked it out of the park. We’ll see better on the field.

So they pass on a Head Coach with a 63-19 record and 2 state championships whos had 1 losing season his first year as a head coach with a 6-7 record, who by the way was the OC at Clinton for years for a guy with now HC experience. That learning curve better be quick! You lose 6-A Mr. Football, hope they can do well. Good luck to him!

Let's not forget he's the best offensive mind in the state of MS.

Sometimes you need to take the greyhound shades off David. LOL. Ocean Springs is far from a premier program in this state. 2 year run has been nice. But in my opinion, not a big enough sample size to be proclaimed premiere at this point and time.

Pennock to my knowledge did not teach any classes but held the role of "Assistant Athletic Director". If this is true, then OS is foolish for thinking any high quality coach was going to come in and take the job. I agree with your point though. Mississippi is hurting itself with they way coaches are run and expected to teach full class loads with the demands of running a program in today's world. I personally feel that no head football, baseball or basketball coach should teach a class. They should be focused on running their programs, game planning, fundraising, etc.

Heck I know a head coach right now that teaches half a day and barely makes over 10k for a supplement. I admit he is at a smaller school where a 6A guy may have more things to take care of running a program but he also has more hands on deck. This guy does just about everything around his school to make the program work. He does all those things and cuts grass, and drives a bus route, and so may other things! State of Mississippi was tied for most players in the super bowl. Think about what our talent would be like if we really invested in those sports like other states do.

The community wanted Bramlett and they got him. The kids seemed to want Bramlett and they got him. Looks like a win to me. He's been the one holding everything together since the season ended. Second guessing with a bunch of "what ifs" doesn't really accomplish anything. This was the best way to keep consistency in the program as well.

Exactly! All of what you say is true, but even if it wasn’t, Bramlette has been the offensive coordinator for the best offense in the state these last two years. If you wanted an offensive mind who’s been around a program with multiple playoff games, calling plays for the best multi offense and running the weight training and nutrition program for the coach who left. I’m pretty sure that Bramlette would have been snatched up before now if he wasn’t loyal to a fault to the town, school, kids, and head coach. Continuity is underrated. We could discuss this all day, but most everyone here is satisfied that the best man for the job was hired. Time will tell.

Wonder how much the pay actually is?  I don't count outside money.  You cant depend on that.  You piss the wrong person off or not play someone's son and that money evaporates.  On paper Pennock made $88,740.

Oops! Yeah, my phone required me to log in. Didn’t realize it was making me a clone. Hmm, maybe there’s an advantage to this….

Time will tell if Bramlett was the right hire but a groundswell of support from mommies/daddies/sons for a particular candidate hardly qualifies that person as the best choice.

Regardless, I hope he's successful.

Bramlette was upstairs on the headphones, at least last year. He might have been on the sidelines at some point. The game plan was set up by the both of them, but play calling came down from up top in some cases. Any offensive coordinator worth his salt is knee deep in the game plan and play calling. Maybe you know more than I do, but the guys I talk to are comfortable with his offensive mind.

Of course they did they’re comfortable with him he’s been there for 3 years. He’s been holding everything together because he wanted a shot at being the head coach he basically has been interviewing for 2 months. We don’t know if he will keep consistency or not. Maybe he will do great but this isn’t some home run. This was a safe hire.
