However, he has coached at some great programs and has done well at Valdosta as a Co-DC. I just feel if you are going to hire a guy with no HFC experience, why not promote your OC who has been there a while and knows the kids and community or your DC who has HFC experience? Vance was coming off back to back state title appearances and was literally 2 points away from back to back state wins. Vance was a much more seasoned and successful hire than Lacy. Even after all Vance accomplished before HHS after his first season he was pretty much buried alive. In his own words he was about to leave until he prayed about it. So calling this a disaster hire especially in feb is clown ish. In this may very well be underwhelming to some but for me personally I'm ok with it. BUT, it appears he was hired because all of the big name splashes said no and the Coordinators who should have been promoted were pissed and said nevermind. I'm not sure why he was trying to get to this area but his name was mentioned in several jobs around here including a couple of coordinator positions that he didn't get obviously. Merlin Posted February 12, 2025 Share Posted February 12, 2025 Y’all forget that Hattiesburg was plagued by outside influence intruding into every facet of the program to an extent not seen anywhere else in the state. Namely in the form of, as slick mentioned, Kenneth Fairley and friends. He was in jail and most of that influence was out of the program by the time Vance was hired. So he had a chance to build.
