2023 MHSAA & MAIS schedules are up on http://www.ahsfhs.org/mississippi/

If you note any errors please let me know.

Picayune has an open date September the 29th.  I don't know about PRC's end of it though.  If they didn't get an opponent they'll only have a 9 game season since they don't have Jim Hill in the district.

WEST JONES 2023

Laurel  (H)

NE Jones  (H)

South Jones  (A)

Wayne County  (A)

Poplarville  (A)

Jackson Prep (H)

Terry (H)  **

OPEN

Forrest Hill  (A) **

PRC  (H) **

Hattiesburg  (A) **

Some interesting non-region games. Starting a new QB and opening with Laurel will be a challenge.

WC will be a very good test, Poplarville and JP maybe too. Only 4 region games? (thanks MSHAA for 7 classes....)

Really should have been 5. Jim Hill is playing independent. They wanted no part of Region 3 although I could have seen them possibly winning 2.

Starting with Laurel right out the gate.  Should be a great and hot ballgame.  Drink plenty of fluids in the stands.

How ridiculous to only have 4 conference games. As I've said before, there really are no longer any State champions, just the best of 23 other teams.

Who can give me some insight on MRA? I don’t keep up with private school ball outside of when we played Greenville Christian and that was a rare case of talent for them that year.

Their QB is going to USM and has several other offers

Over the last 5yrs they are 58-9. Won 3 straight state titles from 2019-2021. I remember one yr they were on ESPNU because of how many D1 players were playing for both teams

Just him from what I can find.

I think Matthew Perkins will be D1 caliber next year. Had a great sophomore season last year and probably be one of their main contributors on both sides of the ball this year.

Dub, I don’t see this being near as competitive as the GCS game was. That year GCS was like a 6A public school championship contender where as MRA this year is more like a 4A public school championship contender. They lost a lot on defense to graduation that they’ll have to find replacements for as well as their go to receiver. If I were to put a line on it I’d take Oak Grove -21.

Totally agree. What is the point of the regular season? The 4th place team in our region can go 1 and 10

and make the playoffs. That's pathetic.

I'm not up on this new format as I should be. Did they add a playoff game like the old 4A format ?

No they didn't Slick.  The amount of playoff games for 5A-7A are the same as before.  What he is referring to is region 3-6A where there's only 5 teams in that region due to Jim Hill being independent.  For example:  PRC can go 1-10 and get the 4 spot in the playoffs as long as who they beat loses all of their region games.

2 wins and your a 3 seed if you beat region opponents
