No they didn't Slick. The amount of playoff games for 5A-7A are the same as before. What he is referring to is region 3-6A where there's only 5 teams in that region due to Jim Hill being independent. For example: PRC can go 1-10 and get the 4 spot in the playoffs as long as who they beat loses all of their region games.

They definitely look better, but the small M-State logo reminds me of the Croom Era uniforms. I think if they would have taken the "MISS. STATE" from the Dowsing-Bell Uniforms last year and straightened it out or taken it from the practice jerseys and put that across the chest, I think that would make them absolutely fantastic.
-
How much does Hancock return from last year? When I saw them play last year they shutout PRC, so that's not really a great indicator of the team that they had or what they will possibly return.
-
Starting with Laurel right out the gate. Should be a great and hot ballgame. Drink plenty of fluids in the stands.

If any of you North Mississippi folks have any insights into the teams that comprise Regions 1 & 2, please feel free to post them. If you feel like posting predictions on how those regions will stack up, then go ahead and post that as well. I'm slightly (or very) intrigued by 6A North mainly because I don't really know what to expect from it.

No it wasn’t. Picayune didn’t win that ballgame. Picayune got taken to the woodshed by PRC. That was Collins’ last year at PRC and Picayune was down a little bit that year. They did to Picayune what Picayune normally does to PRC. When Collins left after that season and went to d’Iberville, PRC should have promoted Seth to head coach but they didn’t and they’ve paid the price ever since.
-
It was 2015 when they beat Picayune. PRC was some giants that year, no lie.
-
Part of me wonders if PRC canceled the regular season game against Picayune because they don't want to have to play Picayune twice. If they manage to get the 4 spot in region 3 and Picayune gets the 1 spot in region 4, then yes they would have had to play Picayune twice at Picayune. I just wonder what the reasoning was behind that decision making process because it'll hurt both schools financially for the next two years. It just seems like a decision that was made in haste and the bigger picture wasn't looked at regardless of wins or losses. I also think there's a cultural problem at PRC and hopefully this new coach with no ties to the area can come in and rectify some of that. Maybe getting Picayune off of their schedule is part of that remedy, but I guess time will ultimately tell.

West Harrison getting a playoff spot definitely sounds feasible because they'll only have to be better than Hancock and Long Beach. Granted that sounds easy enough and hopefully they can make some more history this year, but in a good way. They've been bad for far too long and hopefully last season was them turning the corner.

I have this lingering question in the back of my head that pertains to region 4-6A, so I'm going to ask it and maybe someone can chime in with a response. Was West Harrison's first winning season last year and Hancock's 6A playoff berth a fluke or were they just victims of circumstance? I realize they'll be battling it out for a playoff spot, but how much traction is there to gain for both of those teams?

I certainly appreciate your prediction here, but here’s the thing: The region 3-6A district championship is going to be the last weekend of the regular season between Hattiesburg and West Jones. The winner of that game will take the region 3-6A crown and have better seeding in the playoffs. You then will have to navigate your way through the playoffs without taking a loss because this isn’t double elimination like baseball. It’s a difficult row to hoe for sure.
-
You're exactly right Vott. Region 4 is going to have two very good football teams that won't make the playoffs unfortunately.
-
But how far will being "pretty good" get them in the playoffs? With the heavyweights in Region 4 they just don't have any wiggle room.
-
It's going to be interesting to see what is going to happen in 6A this year. I'd like to think that George County is an X-factor this year and I think they will be significantly improved because the talent is there. It just needs to translate into wins for them.
-
The regions are extremely lopsided. I don't know if there's any team in Region 3 that could get out of the first round of the playoffs with a win. In other words, the Region 3-5A district championship is a rather moot point. It'll be something to be proud of for whichever team wins it, but it's going to have a shorter shelf life than an overripe tomato.

I'm looking forward to getting some new Interlocking MSU gear. Hopefully it'll start going on sale by the end of this month. It wouldn't be true to form if they didn't pick State last in the West LOL!
-
Thankfully y’all won’t have to play Hattiesburg, but you’ll probably have to travel to Hattiesburg again. The Rock is a good venue for the State Championships and they’ll probably be there as long as USM wants them to be. Even if this is Chambliss’s last rodeo, he won’t have any trouble making it back to the 5A title game. There just won’t be any difficult competition for West Point in 5A North this year. If West Point doesn’t make it to the title game, I’ll be utterly shocked.
-
We won’t have to go to Baton Rouge. Catholic will be coming to Picayune.
-
Yes that is sad and Johnie Cooks passed away yesterday as well. Prayers for both families.
-
Picayune has an open date September the 29th. I don't know about PRC's end of it though. If they didn't get an opponent they'll only have a 9 game season since they don't have Jim Hill in the district.
-
I just hope there's somebody in 5A South that can hang. I'd like to think that 5A South runs through Waynesboro, but Laurel is definitely a tough out come playoff time. I guess the million dollar question is which team from 5A South will match up the best against the Green Wave and have the greatest chance at winning it. I think 5A South will be underdogs this go round, but it won't be impossible.
-
I completely understand where you are coming from Slick. I guess I just want Wayne County to be the one to keep the 5A South streak going. The opportunity is there for Wayne County and I hope they take advantage of it.
-
Ain’t no way Stone and Gautier will be better than y’all. This poll is a complete joke and I’ll gladly eat my crow if I’m wrong. But yes you’re right Region 4-5A is a gauntlet but it’s a gauntlet Wayne County can get through. Y’all held your own against Meridian in the spring game and low and behold, they’re in the top 10 in 7A. You’ve got this Maroon Tide fan believing in the War Eagles and yes I’m putting my eggs in one basket because I don’t need another one. It would just go to Jacob’s Well if I had another basket.

It's bad when the moderator has to go in and change the title of the thread. You're going from moderator to editor LOL! It's like a crappy newspaper with typos galore.
