  1. State added Andrew Taylor from Marshall. I think he'll wind up being like a Shane Power. So yes, I think State has addressed that need and there's probably someone from the recruiting class that can shoot the 3 as well.
  2. From what I saw on PRC's Touchdown Club fb page, it appears to be a Blue vs. Black scrimmage, so there must not be an actual "opponent" per se. If that's the case, I wonder why they won't be having it at Hendrix Stadium on campus? It seems like that would be the more convenient route, but I guess the change of scenery might do some good for them.
  3. I agree that State should be preseason top 25 this coming November, but I wouldn’t depend upon the major sports networks getting onboard with that line of thought. I don’t even think they have State in the projected field of 68. I think that just shows how credible they are.
  4. Will they even have an opponent? Or is it amongst themselves?
  5. In regards to a 100% pitching staff overhaul, one pitcher that State is going to get is Will Passeau. That young man is the caliber of player that you want if you’re State. He can pitch and he can hit. You may need him to do both.
  6. Great response there. I completely understand when you say you're not the WC of old, but I honestly feel like this is a year for Wayne County to make some deep playoff (late November/early December) type noise. Will it happen? I honestly don't know right now, but I feel like this is an opportunity year for y'all.
  7. The bottle is constantly pouring, but it never runs out. The glass is constantly filling, but it never overflows. What a predicament to be in!
  8. Here's the thing. West Point is going to need some competition in 5A and they sure as heck won't get it from the North, so who from 5A South can provide that competition? I feel like the path is much clearer now for Wayne County to get there and that may be a good thing since we've gone to 7 classifications. Which team in 5A South can the Maroon Tide pass the 5A torch to? The answer to this question better not be Laurel or Gautier LOL!
  9. Vott, if State can sweep A&M it will give them 11 wins, so an 11-19 record is the best State can do. If 11-19 is better than Georgia or Missouri after the dust settles this weekend, then they can get the 12th spot.
  10. With us being a game behind Jawja, we’ve got to win tomorrow. Thankfully we had some help from LSU, but hopefully we can take care of business on our end and get the help we need from LSU and Auburn.
  11. That definitely took some guts by Amani Larry. I thought when Hunter Hines hit into a double play in the 8th when there were ducks on the pond with one out, I thought State was done at that point. Great walkoff win for the Dawgs!
  12. Apparently he missed 7 games with the Nittany Lions last season due to injury, but he led them in rushing in both 2020 and 2021. He was also cleared to play in their bowl game, so I'm thinking his injury was at the beginning/before the season started last year. I think it's a solid get and he'll have two years to play two, so it's not like a one year and done thing with him.
  13. Well the Mississippi State running back room just got a shot in the arm today with the addition of Keyvone Lee out of Penn State. Sounds like an excellent get from the portal.
  14. Southern Miss has home baseball games against the Ragin' Cajuns on those days. Probably going to be too many folks for that campus to handle.
  15. Poplarville is going to be hopping this weekend. That's a pile of games and teams.
  16. State needed to show signs of life and improvement after Foxhall was fired, and State did just that. I don't think it's every day that State wins a series at Alex Box, so that was a huge achievement in and of itself besides the fact that LSU was #2 in the country. If anything, winning a series like that just reaffirms the decision to cut Foxhall was the right move.
  17. Home field advantage definitely helps. We had a good crowd at Picayune Friday night and the Maroon Tide student section really made a big difference, but Picayune didn't have that home field advantage on Saturday so yes a crowd can really get into the head of a pitcher or a team and effect the outcome for sure.
  18. As hot as Auburn has been as of late, it would make sense for them to win that series against Missouri and possibly sweep. That doesn't seem unrealistic at all. LSU is obviously a better team than Georgia, but who knows how they will respond on the road after this past weekend. The potential is definitely there for State to get the help they need, but I honestly don't have a good read on how we will perform against A&M. I think the common line of thinking is that if you can beat LSU on the road at Alex Box, surely you can beat A&M at home, but if you start to think that way then that's when you get screwed. State really needs to slow things down this coming weekend and take each game against A&M one pitch at a time. If they can do that, they can get the wins they need.
  19. Let me gladly eat some crow! I honestly thought we would get creamed in Baton Rouge this weekend and we win a series at Alex Box! Who would have thunk it? State still needs Missouri to lose today and drop a couple next weekend to feel halfway decent about making the SEC tournament, but if State wins the series at home next weekend against A&M they might get the 12 seed. They are still on the outside looking in, but at least all hope isn’t lost quite yet.
  20. Yes that was definitely something special to see. I don’t ever recall Picayune having that many D1 scouts at a game before. If we weren’t on the radar before, I guess we are now.
  21. No doubt. I think the key to have success in region 2-7A is to make the playoffs, regardless of where you are in the standings 1 thru 4. Because once you are able to lock up a playoff berth, you then have a little bit of breathing room. It's one of those rare regions where the regular season district play is actually tougher than the playoffs.
  22. There's just not a whole lot of breathing room in region 2-7A. You better hit the ground running. It's big boy football to the max.
  23. For a 7A North dark horse, give me Germantown. Year 2 of the Russell Mitchell era may still be a transition, but I think they will be much improved from last year.
  24. I realize I'm beating a dead horse here, but I feel like State is going to get absolutely shellacked this weekend starting this evening. Thankfully I've got a Maroon Tide baseball team to go support this evening, so I'll have something to distract me.
  25. They probably would like to win a NC, but the fallout afterwards will probably be less than desirable. If they do win one, they better not stink it up the following year (or two years) like we have.
