Well he’s got 2 state championships, Raleigh has 2 state championships, and Mancuso has like 9. West Point doesn’t run a wing-t but they also don’t run the spread. But I get it, some fans just dont really want to win unless they see the ball in the air.

I think Meridian will really know what they have when they play Starkville. OS looks pretty down at the moment . I will say even when they were rolling Boyles took Meridian to Ocean Springs and won a first round playoff game just a few seasons ago. Good win nonetheless

Here is the real problem: too many schools no longer fear the MHSAA because they do not believe the MHSAA has the backbone to impose a punishment that actually hurts. If the reports are accurate that Brandon has violated the football practice rule for a second straight year, then another weak probation does nothing except reinforce that belief. I have talked with athletic directors who openly question whether the MHSAA is willing to come down hard on the powerful programs in Central Mississippi. I have heard administrators say they do not believe MHSAA leadership wants to “go down that road.” Think about what that says about enforcement. If schools believe they can break a rule, take a probation, and keep rolling with no meaningful consequence, then why would anybody fear violating the rule again? Probation without teeth is just paperwork. At some point, repeat violations should bring consequences that actually matter—loss of contests, postseason restrictions, meaningful fines, suspensions, or whatever penalties the MHSAA rulebook legally allows and applies consistently. This is bigger than Brandon. The MHSAA either has authority over all of its member schools, or it does not. A 1A school in rural Mississippi should not have to wonder whether it would receive a harsher punishment than one of the biggest programs in Central Mississippi. Same rulebook. Same enforcement. Same consequences. Until schools believe there is a real price for repeatedly breaking the rules, the MHSAA should not be surprised when some programs stop being afraid of getting caught.

Having seen Wayne County this year I can say two things. 1. The athletes to be successful are there right now. Not including the ones who were run off, quit, or decided not to play the past few years. 2. Facilities are great and easily among the top in 5A, if not the state. This has potential to be a really, really good job. The right coach, will have them competing for state championships year in and year out.

I think as the season wore on I wasn't right about any the finalists in 7,6 or 5A and how it would play out. These new classes have really blurred the lines. In person I thought WC and Laurel matched up with Brookhaven size wise. Tonight they looked much bigger than WP and basically just pushed WP around as the game wore on. Brookhaven coach had them ready. Good job . They left no doubt.

I have a perfect solution. Haha. We can have a PowerPoint system and have a losers bracket champion and have 14 championship games.

The “top tier” (largest classification of schools) will always feature a huge disparity. The schools at the bottom of that heap (currently 7A) will statistically fit better and compete more strongly with the classification under them. But, I don’t know that there is a good solution. MS is not large enough for 7 classifications.

Lebby is in good shape. Emotions just need to settle down some. This mentality of discarding coaches after a single loss or even a win is just mind boggling. And we might see coaches staying put rather than jumping from the frying pan into the fire. If I have a good gig, why I am I going to leave that for FL or LSU where I going to be set up for failure.

I don’t think you understand lol … John Curtis is one of the premier programs in Louisiana they aren’t a “might give Louisville a game” type of team.

BoKnows and I have joined to do a small weekly review this season. MS is a big state and painting a picture of it with even a football roundup is impossible. We will develop it as the season goes on but the primary goal is for it to be interesting for all classes statewide. Disagree that it’s not worth paying attention to. It’s as competitive as ever. Anybody can get beat any week. Last week, there were 7 games. 6 of them were decided by less than 1 score and 3 were 1 point games.

For me making that choice would be agony x1000.I'm hearing someone with some strole got involved after Coach Chapman said no more of these sham interviews and told her who she was going to turn in. Hathorne didnt like it but cowered like usual when he didnt have the upper hand. There is still time I guess to pull a fast one but I doubt it. Back when the state got involved with the whole failing school sham ten years ago more or less almost everyone left ,.Only Bubba and his buddy Branch he called over were left as voices from Wayne County to the state. There were certain people on the board that got friendly with them too but are gone now. Any time Hathorne wants to threaten someone he calls his friends in Jax and they give him backing. What the people in Jackson saw was a school district flush with assets and right then went to work to gain control of them. They pretty much did with the friendly, scared board at that time and the imbecile Branch as their installed puppet. Fast forward to now and this current board is not so friendly to these connections so they are meddling every way they can. They would like nothing more than this coaching search flop to turn over board members in this next election to people more agreeable to their requests. I hope it doesn't happen. They already have rigged the supt. selection process now they want control of school boards statewide . Not because they care about students, they want control of those assets. Under state law now each county handles those assets as they see fit and dont even have to report what they do. So when you get up to speak your mind tonight direct your ire at the right people. That board is the only voice the people of Wayne County have left in their school system and deserve a measure of respect.Demand to know who this supt in waiting and by default Hathorne answer to in Jackson. Demand to know why they lied about this so called selection committee. Demand to know why must everything be a secret now. It hasn't always been that way. Demand to know why last month Hathorne got up there and boasted about all the troublemakers that had been dismissed from the football tean during his time as principal and hasn't been called to the carpet for it. He should be dismissed, no contract, no resignation acceptance , no retirement, no paycheck. See you in court fat man. I am still angry about it. I tried to be concise but rambled on I guess. I’m not one to doomcast people into the transfer portal…. But if for some reason Josh Hubbard decides he wants to play for an upper tier team in his last year, look no further than last night for a big reason why. Hubbard scored 31, no other State player was in double figures, and they lost by 9 at home. I’m still someone who thinks pretty highly of Jans, but man what on earth happened with the construction of this team. It’s Hubbard and a bunch of dudes who simply are not very good basketball players.

These kids nowadays are so dramatic. The kid is basically admitting he’s transferring just to play sports. If the MHSAA allows him to transfer they should be ashamed. But i wouldn’t be surprised if Loyd star is freely releasing him. I heard either he or his family had become an issue. Regardless, I have a feeling he’s going to find out the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. He was blessed to be in the offensive system that Loyd Star ran, which gave him the ball 25+ times a game, and allowed him to rush for a ton of yards against weak opponents almost every week. In any other offensive system, he doesn’t come close to putting up the same rushing stats. I think he’s about to learn a harsh lesson, and it appears it will be his and his family’s own doing.

Slick and I were texting back and forth all weekend about the games. We learned two things over the weekend. 1) if we picked your team we’re sorry because they probably lost lol We are not very good prognosticators. 2) these were some of the best matchups in years if not ever. Congratulations to all the teams who played for a title. It’s an honor to be in that position. If you were lucky enough to win enjoy it. The Kid from Gulfport made the memory of a lifetime with that game winning catch.

very dumb decision. Every team should have at least 7 district games, meaning 8 team districts. Have 4 districts in 6A and 5A, then divide the remainder among class 4 to 1. Georgia is way bigger than Mississippi and they only have 6 districts.

It did not have the effect they stated.It was about more gate money for the MHSAA under the guise of "competition".

I understood the argument about the gap between the top and bottom of 6A with 32 teams being very significant. The better solution would have been to make 6A the top 24 with 5A being the next 24 while pushing the others down the line. Those gaps aren't really significant once you move past the top layers. However we all know it was just revenue generation sold under the guise of being more equitable. It's created small regions and classes where teams struggle to get 10 game schedules, multiple winless teams in the "playoffs" which leads to more games, travel, practice, and time away from school. It's not just in football this is happening but could be seen to some degree across other sports as well. 6 classes is plenty and honestly 5 wouldn't be so bad in a state like ours with a shrinking school enrollment as well as consolidations of smaller, rural schools into larger ones. I know the MHSAA has always been about money but it wasn't always so blatantly obvious.

It’s not been a good change. We should have kept 6 classes, but if we changed anything it should have been to drop to 5 classes instead of move up to 7.

The best team Wesson has played this season is Franklin County. Their opponents have a combined record of 33-64. Everybody Mize has played is still playing in the 2nd round of the playoffs except for Enterprise Clarke. Mize will be the best team Wesson has played all season. That doesn’t mean Wesson still won’t win. But it won’t be a blowout.

Most of us are waiting to see if coach survives this since he has go before the board to be reinstated as a coach for any and all sports. He is also not allowed to have contact with students. I wonder how that works in the hall way, class room, and lunch table. Has to be weird at school.

Can’t help but wonder if all the openings are gonna buy some coaches more time that may have otherwise gotten fired. Additionally, schools like Arkansas, VA Tech, and UCLA that fired their coach super early…. I’m not saying they regret their decision, but the marketplace is insanely crowded now after they were in a hurry to jump into it first. And none of them are close to the best jobs out there.

If Clarkdale is really that bad I like Enterprise's chances; if Clarkdale can get beat 45-0 by a not very good beat up Mize team Enterprise can take them.

Agreed in the last 2-3 minutes of the game Lanier broke runs of 99 and 40 yards pretty much right up the middle. Lanier’s defense looked pretty good in the second half after giving up 22 in the first half

Lafayette has played and beaten two 7A schools this year (Hernando & Lewisburg). I think this move is a bit of an overreaction, but what really doesn't make sense is making it be an all sport issue. Lafayette Baseball went 2-1 against Oxford last year, right?
