  1. Here is the real problem: too many schools no longer fear the MHSAA because they do not believe the MHSAA has the backbone to impose a punishment that actually hurts. If the reports are accurate that Brandon has violated the football practice rule for a second straight year, then another weak probation does nothing except reinforce that belief. I have talked with athletic directors who openly question whether the MHSAA is willing to come down hard on the powerful programs in Central Mississippi. I have heard administrators say they do not believe MHSAA leadership wants to “go down that road.” Think about what that says about enforcement. If schools believe they can break a rule, take a probation, and keep rolling with no meaningful consequence, then why would anybody fear violating the rule again? Probation without teeth is just paperwork. At some point, repeat violations should bring consequences that actually matter—loss of contests, postseason restrictions, meaningful fines, suspensions, or whatever penalties the MHSAA rulebook legally allows and applies consistently. This is bigger than Brandon. The MHSAA either has authority over all of its member schools, or it does not. A 1A school in rural Mississippi should not have to wonder whether it would receive a harsher punishment than one of the biggest programs in Central Mississippi. Same rulebook. Same enforcement. Same consequences. Until schools believe there is a real price for repeatedly breaking the rules, the MHSAA should not be surprised when some programs stop being afraid of getting caught.

  5. You've completely lost your mind saying that Morgan developed that offense from scratch and that we were losing to Oxford year in and year out. Yeah Oxford won from 13-15 but WP was dog walking everyone else in 5A. Including Oxford before 2013. Not sure where you're getting this. Before Morgan became OC West Point was 57-10 vs 5A teams including Starkville and Oxford which were the only teams that stopped them from trips to Jackson in 11-15 So the offense was NEVER developed from scratch. There's footage on YouTube with WP running these same plays in 2011 with Aeris Williams when Morgan WAS NOT OC

  9. Mississippi doesn't even have enough high schools for 6 classes much less 7. And no matter how many you have, no more than half should make the playoffs. When 4 out of 6 division teams make the playoffs, it becomes like a trophy for everyone. Ridiculous!

  10. That’s not the case for Forest. Forest will have already played their first region game, and would have had Raymond the next week after Raleigh. They just chickened out. There’s no other explanation.

  13. I lived through Joe Moorhead 2018 and can confirm that no situation is too good for a crappy first year head coach to mess up. Now, I think there’s reason to believe Golding is far more competent than Moorhead. But you never know with these things. Everyone thought Moorhead was a great hire until one fateful night in Lexington, Kentucky.

  15. But they were still a 4 seed and they couldn’t even tread water against Hattiesburg and got shut out by Goula. Having a good player isn’t going to make or break them because it’s a team effort. Everyone else is going to have to do their job for them to improve upon their success from last season. Having a good player definitely helps, but that can only take you so far. I genuinely believe they can make some noise and are getting better, but who they make noise against remains to be seen.

  16. Nah mainly because Starkville will run the ball much more than last year and the clock will roll pretty fast. OG had a bunch of guys starting 7A ball for the first time ever in their matchup last year especially on defense

  17. I agree fully. I do believe PRC will show up and play hard, but like you said there's a lot of excitement and rejuvenation in Waynesboro. If the game is tight and close, I don't see that favoring PRC. In order for PRC to go to Waynesboro and win this one, they'll need to go up by a couple of scores very quickly and maintain that lead. This game won't be easy for PRC.

  18. I'll probably be 70% on these. I just think Wayne will be rejuvenated with new HC. Still working regular job as prognosticator hasn't paid off yet.

  19. Enterprise is a senior team with a lot of experience Stringer's best player graduated I feel Stringer is being overhyped I know you cant judge everything from a jamboree but Enterprise played even with a team with a lot more speed and better athletes than Stringer. We are a big physical team and Stringer is going to have a lot of trouble running against us.

  20. It was close last year. D'Iberville survived on 1 play.

  21. Only way that happens is if west coaches never have more than half the starters on the field at a time and none more than like 4 plays. Due to not wanting to allow their first 3 regular season opponents (Laurel, nej, sj, in that order) to see what they working with.

  22. That's funny since last year it wasn't announced until 8-18-25 and the new announcement was on the 17th of this year. No one really expects anything different at this point when dealing with the good old boy system of MHSAA.

  27. Is it fair to say that they are recruiting against one another, so how, or can you, regulate that at all given two separate governing bodies? The way it is, the bigger school in the area with the most money, whether MHSAA or MAIS, is going to end up with all the athletes. It's just like college is going. They're going to NIL them up from the smaller schools. The toothpaste is out of the tube. There's no putting it back at either level. It's pay to play.

  28. If a clean merger and a big IF here is the current numbers: MHSAA 7A 25 6A 24 5A 25 Leake Central Added 4A 39 Leake Central subtracted 3A 40 2A 40 1A 47 240 Total Will drop to 237 when Leflore County/Greenwood and North Tippah completes consolidation. MAIS 3A 20 2A 20, 18 Football 1A 32, ALL 8 Man Football, 3 non Football 95 Total Merger = 332 Total Possible 7 Classes breakdown 7A 32 6A 32 5A 32 4A 57 3A 57 2A 57 1A 57 If you keep 8 Amanda and increase it to 40 then here is the 4A to 8 man setup: 4A 55 or 48 3A 55 or 48 2A 55 or 48 1A 55 or 67 currently 12 non football MHSAA 8 man 40 Then its possible 8 man grows to above 40 to around 48 dropping 4A-1A to actually 53 each.

  30. Why would you want to lose a home game and play at a neutral site? You play at a neutral site then after you pay the cost to rent the field and pay their people who provide security among other things, you end up losing money
    1 point
  31. You may be right, but I find that hard to believe. To begin with MHSAA schools aren't going to want a merger without a multiplier for the private schools. And I'm sure that's just one of many sticking points between the two that will be an issue.

  32. Admit it. After the conversations around H’burg recruiting Tuesday as soon as you saw the thread title you felt uneasy. As soon as he named Hattiesburg you felt your cheeks tighten a bit.

  37. Vott this has nothing to do with Petal at Hattiesburg. If you want to address his comment, he’s mentioning WR corps. You know that’s like pissing in the wind at Picayune. If we ever get a guy to have double digit receptions in a game, that record would take decades to break. We would all be witnesses to history being made if that ever happened.
    1 point
  38. Sorry, but breaking in an entire new o line will take more than 1 quarter. Probably more than a couple games. Hattiesburg, as much as yall don’t want to accept, are not to the point of reloading immediately after loosing a large group of talented 3 year starters like you just had graduate. And the coaches know it or they would not have been openly recruiting so much this offseason trying to quickly piece together a team they think might be capable of winning.

  39. 7 classes have given us 5 team regions with 1-9 records making the playoffs. With all the open dates this year its going to be some 1-8 records in the playoffs. Right now in 2A you have 4 team regions all 4 in the playoffs and yes 0-10 goes as a 4 seed. In 1A north you have appx 10 nonfootball schools out of roughly 24 or so. That means you have 6 team regions with up to 3 non football teams in the region. Somewhere 1 seeds get buys now. 1A set up has to change or simply go back to 4 regions maybe 6 regions if it can be worked out fairly. With 6 there will be some buys. At least those schools get back to 10 game seasons and not 8 game seasons. 6 classes were better. 5 classes is probably where we need to be even if it leaves 3 teams per region at home. And now we have coaches that won't schedule certain teams or certain coaches for what ever reason. Like Forest dropping Raleigh or Bay Springs dropping Raleigh because the excuse was in Spring of 25 that Raleigh players hurt us then you schedule a team 3 hours away. Coaches have got to get tougher in some areas. Consolidation is or will happen over time. Nothing you can do but grow your county or your town.

  41. Unfortunately we have left the times of “where is the right in any of that” and entered the time of. “If it is profitable for us/me then it must be right regardless of its impact on others”.

  42. I get what you are saying man and maybe the thread kind of veer away from the thread title but i think it went in the right direction. If the post season in our state were a half trashy wedding, Tupelo would have been the chubby ring bearer with a flat top mullet haircut from noxapeter. Then after people who would know, said they were recruiting they suddenly get a new position in the hierarchy. It has already resulted in one recent title and almost got another. They got scolded by I really don’t know who up there in Clinton but judging by the team of junior college size players from last year, they are laughing at your reprimand. Gulfport was being mentioned along with Hattiesburg but judging by some people in the Pine belt, Hattiesburg seems to be more brazen. There was some confusion maybe on purpose about what’s allowed or not allowed by the fine people that make those calls. That’s where the threads at. Here is the truth of the matter . There are some of the states especially the bigger schools that are starting to skirt the rules. These schools are contenders. It’s wrong. It’s not fair to the teams kids that they play. It creates an advantage that other teams cannot exploit. Where is the right in any of that ? In my gut, I don’t think there is a governing body in place that is capable of handling this problem.

  43. There is no way a head coach can go into any school 4 weeks before the season and have any success. Just go ahead and play the season with the coaches they have now. You really have to feel bad for the players at this point
    1 point
  44. You are not alone. And it’s getting obvious they feel the heat. Let petal mess around and win one before Hattiesburg it will cause bedlam.
