I thought this was a one year thing. What did I miss?

Not sure, but if it's not being moved back to MSU or Ole Miss this season, I have a feeling things are going back to the way they used to be. That includes basketball back in the Jackson coliseum. Just my opinion.

If they can get the ole Vet up to standard, then I am fine with a 4 city rotation. Oxford, Starkvegas, Jackson and Hattiesburg.

I have a lot of fond memories of the Vet from the 1970’s and 80’s when State played there. But sadly the old venue has fallen way behind the other three stadiums with regard to field conditions, amenities, video boards, concessions  etc. Accessibility is not an issue anymore with the four lane highways and the three smaller cities have adequate hotel capacity now too.

Mississippi is a lengthy state from N-S.

I think it is about 350 miles from Pascagoula to Southaven. Anyway you slice it, there is going to be a long drive if you live on the coast or the TN line. It is almost a 4 hour drive from Corinth to Jackson.

So while Jackson is the most centrally located, it no longer has all the advantages that it used to enjoy and as I mentioned the stadium lags considerably behind the other three.

USM was actually the best site as stadium size is almost perfectly suited for these games plus Hattiesburg is easy to get to and has plenty of Hotels/Restaurants very close to stadium. And the way the stadium is designed very close to the field with a steeper incline offers much better sight lines

I just read where Jackson state is supposed to be getting a new turf and grass practice field on campus. Which is nice. But they really need to do something about the field at Vets.

Oh it's coming.

I hope the field is better shape!  It was terrible last year.  After the first game it was tore up!!!  I just hope I able to go back and see my Cats win another this year!!!

Good weather is the one thing you have to hope for if you want the field to be in decent shape. But its almost impossible for the field to be in great shape by the time the last 2 games on that saturday are played. It does need to be turf, because it seems like the championships are going to be back at the Vet full time

Let me tell you something. The MHSAA is all about money. It has nothing to do with what is the best experience for players, parents, and fans. it is about money and renting the facilities at these major universities was so expensive. The last few years they have lost money over the championship games. the only reason it is coming back to Jackson is to save money.

From everything I've gathered, it's actually more expensive to host in Jackson. I could be wrong but I've been told that basically OM and MSU let them use the facilities. They may have profited off the concessions or what have you but it cost roughly 30k for state championship weekend in the Vet. Again, I could be wrong.

I can't think of a single business model where losing money leads to success.

I had a feeling after So. Miss was able to host the championship games 2 times which came after MSU and Ole Miss had hosted twice already that it would be moved back to Jackson. With games on tv and being livestreamed, you are just not going to get the casual High school fan to travel that far north to Starkville or Oxford or down to Hattiesburg.
