HYDR! Brakefield put his damn big britches on at halftime and took that game over in the second half.

Brakefield looked like an All American the second half.  Tennessee didn’t have anyone that could guard him.   It’s got to be frustrating to look so good against good teams and look average against average teams, but at least you OM knows they can beat a top team.  They’ve got the Ws to prove it.

It’s weird to compare State and OM. Ole Miss has pretty clearly had the bigger moments and best wins this season…. But also went 0-2 against State somehow.

OM’s win last night secured them of not having to play on Wednesday in Nashville…. It also secured that State does have to play on Wednesday.

OM is very likely going to be the 7 seed in Nashville unless they win at Florida and also get some help.

State is the 9 if they beat Arkansas, and the 10 or 11 if they lose (depends on if Vandy wins or loses).

I know we had the discussion in football about HAVING to play in the SECCG, but man if I was some of the top teams, I’d hate to get wore down playing in this tournament because it’s going to be a battle.

Johnnie Harris fired as Auburn women’s coach which means the heavy favorite to replace her is Sam Purcell. Auburn grad and also nobody loves hiring people away from his Alma mater more than John cohen.

If I was Auburn I would play my walk ons. Only half way kidding. But don’t forget that Auburn won the SECT last year and immediately lost to Yale a few days later.

Other teams I think will have to try a little for seeding purposes.

Tough loss for Lady Rebs tonight. They looked like one of the top teams in the country tonight. Gave #1 Texas all they wanted. This was the team I think a lot of us expected to show up earlier in the season so hopefully Coach Yo has these ladies turning the corner just in time for the NCAAs.

Theres definitely been a change since the loss to South Carolina. They aren’t coming out of the gate against these top 10 teams and spotting them a quick 10-15 point lead. Tonight they had every opportunity to beat Texas. Free throws and layups were both killers and you have to convert if youre gonna beat a Texas or South Carolina. Also kept absorbing punches from Texas. Would go down 8-10 then claw back and got the lead down to one possession multiple times but just were missing that one extra play to tie or take the lead.

Will be a wait and see game now for Ole Miss. I agree State is probably one of the 8/9 games. Ole Miss is currently projected as the last 4 seed and host for the opening rounds. The loss tonight doesn’t hurt their chances at all, but I fear there are other teams that are going to win their way into the last host and push Ole Miss out. There are a lot of teams at the 5/6 line that are still playing conference tournaments and could knock Ole Miss out of hosting.

Currently I’d say there are 14 Host Locks and 2 host spots up for grabs. Most recent projects had Alabama and Ole Miss in those spots. However, Alabama just lost to Florida (who had a losing record overall) so rough loss for Alabama. High possibility that pushes them out of hosting.

Host Locks:

Big 12 –2 (TCU, Kansas State)

ACC- 4 (Notre Dame, Duke, UNC, NC State)

Big East-1 (UCONN)

Big 10- 2 (Southern Cal, UCLA)

SEC-5 (Texas, S. Carolina, LSU, Oklahoma, Kentucky)

So I think there are about 9 teams in the hunt for those 2 spots (Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Baylor, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Ohio State, Michigan, and Maryland). If you look at the resumes, I just don’t see how Ole Miss grabs one of those 2 spots. The non-conference schedule having 5 SWAC teams was really a killer. Also you still have 5 teams with additional opportunities to pick up ranked wins to pad their resumes and choosing Ole Miss would put the SEC with at least 6 hosts and I have a feeling they are going to want to throw some more love over to the Big 10.

State men at Arkansas shortly in what feels like a big game for seeding proposes. If you don’t want to be an 8 or 9 seed you better win this one. Arkansas is a really weird team and I have no clue what to expect. Line has Hogs favored by 1.5 which is closer than I would’ve pegged.

If State can win today and win at least once in Nashville, I think they probably end up a 7 seed. But anything less feels like a lock for an 8/9 game.

Ole Miss with a low pressure opportunity game at Florida, OM probably a 6 or 7 seed as of today but gonna way to steal this one and I feel like a 5 seed is very possible for them.

State dropping 4 of 5, I believe, to end the season after beating A&M and OM.   Three to teams they had no business losing to and giving up around 95/game.

Expect one and done in both tourneys left.  It’s hard to believe a Jans coached team is so bad on defense.

Jans’ first two seasons combined, State had 8 games where they allowed 80+ points.

This season alone they’ve had 12.

Ole Miss getting thumped in Gainesville but  this one doesn’t seem like a particularly significant result. It appears OM is the 8 seed in Nashville and plays the Arkansas/SC winner early on Thursday.

State is the 10 seed playing LSU on Wednesday night. Would play Mizzou next if they win on Wednesday.

LSU& Missouri are must wins for State. Period.

The last two games for State prove that you can’t start playing basketball in the last 10 minutes of a game.
Ole Miss is playing well at this juncture. Today’s game was mostly expected as Florida maybe the best team in the country.

If State can win two games and be competitive with Florida, I think a 7 seed in the NCAAT is possible still.

But hard to feel much confidence in that when Mizzou and Florida both blitzed State in the Hump. I’m with you on UF being very elite. In a year where everybody is talking about Auburn and Bama, UF beat both of them on the road.

I don’t feel supreme confidence in State beating LSU right now. I mean that was a game LSU led at half before it got away from them. The final score of State winning by 12 was kinda deceiving.

State just not playing good ball since the A&M win. Maybe a switch flips here in the postseason. But I generally feel like we all know what this team is by now.

I think if OM wins one game in Nashville they are a 6 seed. 0-1 could bump them to a 7, but that’s probably the range you are talking with them.

That's where I see Ole Miss also... likely a 7 seed with an immediate exit in the SECT with chances to improve seeding.

MSU is likely in the 8/9 range (MAYBE a 10?) with an immediate exit in the SECT with chances to improve seeding.

We'll see what happens in the SECT. BOTH teams are a lock for the "real" tourney, which is a nice change.

And they don’t have to participate in a play in game.  Both being comfortably in, and State making their third straight trip is not the norm.

I think the SEC is going to end up with at least 12 teams in now that UGA and Arkansas kinda solidified themselves here at the end. TBD on Texas and Oklahoma, I think both would need multiple wins in Nashville to even have a chance.

Jans' is a avg coach

I wouldn’t go that far. State is not exactly an easy job and he’s about to be 3 for 3 on making the NCAA tourney. That deserves a lot of credit. Nobody else has done that at State.

I do think roster construction has been somewhat of an issue and his teams either haven’t been make a ton of shots or they’ve struggled to defend. This year I do believe they are better offensively, but not drastically better, and this is for sure his worst defensive team.
