Dawg83
OM has looked really impressive in the first half. High end play on both ends, and against a team with a size advantage. If they keep it up they are going to the Sweet 16.

Dawg83
And the Sweet 16 for them would be in Atlanta, correct? Would imagine a big OM contingent in town for that. Heck, New Mexico leads Michigan State at half…. OM could be playing a 10 seed in the Sweet 16.
Dawg83
Ole Miss has made Iowa State looks soooooo uncomfortable in this game.
Bulldogs4
I called it. Just felt like Ole Miss was going to win this game. Still some time left but a 22 point lead with 7+ minutes left is pretty safe. NM is giving Michigan State all they want right now. Sweet Sixteen, Ole Miss will certainly have every opportunity for a win against either of those teams. MSTSatchmo
58.2% from the field and 57.9% from three. That will beat anyone in the tournament.
Dawg83
That game in some ways reminded me of the infamous State/Xavier game from 2004…. Except Ole Miss was playing the role of Xavier.
Insideradvantage
We don’t close well. Haven’t all year, but we damn sure did everything else about as well as we can.

Dawg83
Ole Miss vs Michigan State on Friday in the Sweet 16. Beard vs Izzo. Great coaching matchup. Ole Miss will have a chance. Definitely have to feel like they are playing with house money and zero pressure. Michigan State won the Big 10 by three games after starting the season unranked. They don’t shoot the 3 great but rebound and defend very well. First time since 2001 that anyone from the state of Mississippi has made it this far. Won’t pretend that I am loving this as a State fan, especially since State beat OM twice this year. Edited March 24, 2025 by Dawg83

Insideradvantage
I was 50/50 on us against North Carolina the way they looked in the play-in game and then I figured we'd lose to Iowa State. Now I'm in the camp of, "hey, I think we can beat MIchigan State." So that means we'll probably lose. But it won't be because we got outcoached. Dawg83
Think it will be a low-ish scoring game. If Ole Miss keeps shooting threes the way they did against Iowa State then they’ll win. Don’t think Michigan State shoots well enough to keep up with something like that. But they do defend and rebound very very well. They are more similar to A&M or State than some of the sharp shooting teams in the SEC. I think I’m taking Michigan State but I think it will be a close game. And yeah OM could win. Bulldogs4
I don’t have the same feeling about Ole Miss in this game as I did in the first two games. I am afraid Michigan State will win this game. They are one of those teams that seem to be able to bully other teams. And I think they will do the same here. That said, I am pulling for our Ole Miss friends in this game. And as 83 alluded, if they continue to shoot well, they can very well win this game. Hopefully Auburn whips that Michigan *** as they are my least favorite college team. Would certainly be cool if our both of our SEC teams can send Michigan(s) back N for good.
Dawg83
Bama just shot 25-51 from 3 in a Sweet 16 game. I have never seen anything quite like that.
Dawg83
Texas Tech eliminates Arkansas in game of the tournament so far. SEC is guaranteed at least 3 in the Elite 8 with Bama and Florida winning tonight and Kentucky vs Tennessee happening tomorrow. Could get up to 5 teams if OM and Auburn win. And there is still a path for an All-SEC Final Four.
Dawg83
Heck of a run by Ole Miss, ends in the Sweet 16. Sparty just was the better team in crunch time in this one. Huge success for OM regardless. Plenty of reason for optimism as long as Beard is in charge. I realize a lot of this group is gone after this year, but Beard is a great coach, he will keep OM competitive.
Dawg83
Both State and OM will have a lot of holes to fill in the portal this offseason, very curious to see how those holes are filled.

Dia back but the rest outside of Pedulla (that’s taking into account an injured Murrell) can be replaced.
Insideradvantage
Just now, Insideradvantage said: Dia back but the rest outside of Pedulla (that’s taking into account an injured Murrell) can be replaced. Pedulla goes down as one of the best, most clutch Rebels ever. Period.
Bulldogs4
Nwoko entered TP. Even though he was a starter, he did not really develop like was anticipated. Plus he did not have much endurance. Played 15 minutes a game. Clary was basically out the entire season. Matthews will be a big plug to replace. And as much as I respect him and appreciate his great effort, today’s game requires guys who can score from the outside. He did a lot things but his FT shooting was poor and he was not much of an offensive threat. Harris & Melendez were decent players but neither was much of an offensive threat outside a few games here and there. So that is five players gone. Signing class was strong, but a good PG, SG and a couple of F/C from the TP are a must. There is a decent nucleus coming back with Hubs, Murphy, Jones, Kugel. Just gotta find the right pieces. We will see. Ole Miss will be rebuilding next year. Beard is a good coach but most likely Ole Miss will take a step back. Hard to replace the chemistry and experience that this team had this year. They were a special group that played really well together.

I really liked OM’s depth this year. No “stars” other than Pedulla but a good rotation of quality players, some of which had been in the program forever. It was, to me, a situation where the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. So it will be interesting to see who Beard gets to replace that core. State should get Hubbard and Murphy back but otherwise it will be a lot of new faces. Jans just signed his best high school recruiting class to date, we will see if any of those guys can contribute immediately.
