3A: Shannon, Byhalia move down

Pisgah, Raleigh, Collins, Scott Central move up, PCS moves in, St Andrew's and Union can move up but both are tied for 41st. 41st includes OLA as girls only.

1A Leflore County also moves down.

2A: Perry Central, Belmont, Enterprise Clarke, East Webster, Kemper County go down; Baldwin, Leland, East Marion, Leake County, Velma Jackson go up; Smithville goes up if 3A has 42 schools.

4A: Clarksdale, Gentry drop

Mooreville,  Rosa Fort, South Pike move up

All above is based on 2023-24 numbers

East Union stay in 2A?

Who would drop with St. Martin if West Harrison and Hancock move up to 7A?

PRC I would imagine moves into region 4. There has been talk about Meridian dropping with them losing numbers. Not sure how true. I know Lewisburg up north is typically close year in and year out. I highly doubt St. Martin drops though. I just cannot imagine them dropping that many kids. It all will come down to who drops if those move up.

If PRC moves into region 4, I want two home games.  We need to get our regularly scheduled home game and then they owe us one.  I would flat refuse to play them in Carriere.  I know the MHSAA likes to do the home and home thing for opposing teams in a two year cycle and that’s fine for any other opponent, but in this case the trend needs to be bucked.  I have no problem being vocal about that either.  And here’s the thing, you wouldn’t or shouldn’t have PRC folks complain about that either.  They know they owe Picayune a home game.  If the shoe was on the other foot, Picayune would have to do the same.

The bottom ten or so schools for each class could shift with little to no changes with people moving in and out, drop outs, or people opting out of the system.

I've been stunned the past few years at how many families in Rankin and Madison are opting for private schools. Athletics plays a big role as always but it seems to be more common now. My kids, both grown with one married and living close to my wife and I, of course knew people from our neighborhoods and church who attended private schools but it seems so many families now are putting their kids there at young ages from day one and they aren't leaving. My daughter has said some of her friends who started famillies early are starting to talk about private and she will think about it when the time comes.

I will be curious as to the total enrollment among all classes and comparisons between two years ago and today for most of the master list.

Someone said they had 346 last year. That's top 3A. However the question is was that 8th-10th or 9th-12th numbers.

When the MAIS counts numbers they use 8th-11th current year numbers. The past few years they only counted boys for football. This year they are going back to total, boys and girls, enrollment numbers. I do not know what grades were used to get these numbers, 346, for PCS. A few years ago, their total enrollment numbers were a little better than 300 so I would believe that the 346 is a total enrollment number for 8th-11th.

Wokeness rules and actions in the public schools is one factor. Especially when transgender are allowed to make presentations and speeches in some schools but not Christians.

If so they can be largest 3A/smallest 4A. The article mentioned 3A on current numbers and reclassification from 2022.

Subtract the 8th grade numbers from 346 and u safely land in the middle of 3A. So I am subtracting 75-90 for 8th grade. That leaves 256-271 & 3A.

When I was in school, there was no distinctions made between Christians and non Christians. Both treated equally. Now, with the school board policies in place,

Christians are being ostracized and even punished for only being Christian. Not surprised at all to see the MAIS numbers going up. Glad my kids are grown and out

of this mess. We need to step back and see the big picture here. This is a war that has been brought to our doorsteps, or rather our children's doorstep and they

are active combatants in it now.

MHSAA can't use 8th Grade numbers. For instance, in Tishomingo County, the 8th Graders in Burnsville, Iuka, or Tishomingo could opt to go to Belmont if they so choose instead of going to TCHS.

MAIS doesn't have multiple feeder middle schools like the larger MHSAA schools do. So they can count 8-11. The very reason I done the potential enrollment numbers on 1A-4A was to avoid the middle schools for 5A-7A.

Good job with your projections! Thank you for doing that!

The other factor in this is Home Schooling. That has grown tremendously over the recent years.

Public school enrollment is in a downward spiral with a very few exceptions. And I think it will continue spiral downward in the years to come.
In turn sports as we know it today will not be the same in 10-20 years. Your minor sports will not exist in public schools i. e. Soccer, volleyball, golf, archery, tennis, softball, baseball, bowling, weightlifting, etc.

Those will be entirely travel type teams that will compete outside the school structure.

Football and basketball will probably be the only two sports that will survive in the public school setting. IMHO.

We shall see. My understanding is college baseball coaches will no longer recruiting from travel teams due to portal and NIL.
