rebmus
4-2 final OM. DeLucia threw a complete game, first win in Oxford against MSU since 2015 and first SEC win for OM in Oxford this season. Nice win for OM, I wouldn't have bet on it and glad to be wrong.
MSTSatchmo
I actually think if Bianco gets fired after losing in a regional or super, OM will be in good shape regarding coaching candidates. Great facilities, easy to recruit there, and it’s the SEC. I also think Bianco needs a CWS berth. As for tonight’s game and the series this weekend, I think both pitching staffs as a whole are struggling and OM has scored more consistently. I wonder if beating State 3 out of 4 or sweeping them will change anyones thoughts on what it takes for Bianco to keep his job.
Dawg83
State hit two solo homers and didn’t have any other runners reach second base. Not sure I can describe the inconsistencies of this offense any better than that.

We can get into offense, pitching, errors on defense, etc. Truth is, both teams are again tied for last in the west this season. I always enjoy an OM win, but I don't put much stock into this win... no offense to MSU. I'd advise MSU fans to not put much stock into winning this series the next two days if it happens... both teams have issues being consistent. I don’t think either of these teams is good enough to make a deep run, but you’d at least like to see your team in the postseason. I think both are somewhat still alive if they split the four games, if one team wins the majority of the 4 then that team is in an OK spot and the loser is pretty much cooked. s1nglewing
If MSU or Ole MIss gets into the tournament it won't be well earned. Neither are good and there are several better teams at this point.

If you don’t do that then it’s a moot point. Both are sitting at 6-10 with 14 SEC games left. You go 8-6 or 9-5 the rest of the way and I feel like you’ve earned your spot. Bulldogs4
At some point you are who you are. I just don’t see either squad going on any kind of run at the junction of the season. Possible but not likely IMO. I do think each team will keep scratching and clawing though. Series Advantage:Ole Miss. As 83 pointed out, State’s offense is Dave Kingman or bust. Solo home runs galore with a .213 batting average and about 8 strike outs per homer.

To be fair, it’s not like OM’s offense was much better last night. All of their runs also came on two homers, they just so happened to take advantage of the Yeager error and had a couple of guys on base when Graham went deep. I still don’t hate State’s chances the next two days, Preston Johnson and Cade Smith are good enough to give you winning starts. This offense has to actually hit, though. Feels like State always has something off this year. When the pitching is good, they don’t hit well. When they finally start hitting, the pitching falls apart. Odds are whoever starts the next 2 games will make State look like the 27 Yankees. Outside of Delucia the starting pitching has been bad. Dawg83
It is almost impressive to see all the different ways this State team gets runners on base and fails to score them. Lol. I don’t know if I have ever in my life seen a starting pitcher throw 100 pitches in 4 innings and only allow one run. I thought the same, pretty sure I've never seen that stat either. This game may turn into a slugfest now though. MSU scored 2 against the OM bullpen in the 6th, 4-3 OM now. MSU has also moved to the bullpen for the bottom of the 6th, we'll see if OM can answer.
Dawg83
Ole Miss has also left a ton of guys on base and let State hang around. All four runs for OM on solo homers so far. Bullpen game now between two bad bullpens, this should be something.
Dawg83
State jumps ahead on a two run homer. I did not lie when I said the bullpens would be interesting.

Yeah, much has been said about OM starting pitching after "Friday", but the bullpen is as bad or worse. Brandon Johnson is probably the best out of the bullpen and he's given up quite a few runs lately. MSU scored 4 in the 7th to go ahead 7-4. Insideradvantage
Thank goodness we are back on the get rid of Bianco theme. It was getting dicey there for an inning or two.
rebmus
MSU scored 2, 4, and 3 runs against the OM bullpen in the 6th, 7th, and 8th inning... OM hasn't scored since the second inning.
rebmus
OM scored 3 in the 8th to cut it to 10-7. Probably too little too late, but at least it's interesting going into the 9th inning.

Kohn and Hunt are the two best arms out of the pen and both are probably burned for tomorrow. Interesting rubber game on Saturday, but let’s be real, these are two bad teams. Tomorrow may be significant in terms of making it to Hoover or not but that feels like maybe the extent of it. I lean heavily toward neither of these teams are making the NCAAT. rebmus
After tomorrow, OM/MSU will be a combined 14-22 in SEC play. How far back do we have to dig to find a worse start? I'd guess over 20 years, maybe 30 years.
Bulldogs4
Both squads are having a tough year. Today’s game is very important. The loser is in a really must win situation Tuesday night. If one team loses the next two games, the dark clouds are really going to start squeezing out the daylight going forward. I honestly have no idea how it will go though I did predict a 2-2 split originally so I will stick to that prediction. For Ole Miss, last night hurts bad. Reminds me a bit of State’s first game with LSU. You had the momentum through 2/3 of the game only for it to slip away. No matter how much you try to flush a game like that, it can definitely carry over. So it will be interesting to see how Ole Miss plays today. In the end , it is still a competitive rivalry so I think it is going to be a battle today.
