College Baseball Season

I don’t really even know what to say about 27-2. LOL. I think everyone has known for a couple of weeks that this season was pretty much dead for State. I did not think the team had quit until this point but part of you wonders if there’s some of that in these final few games.

It may not be a bad thing that a big roster reset is about to happen. That was going to be the case even with a good State team this year given how many older and draft eligible guys are on this team. But this is a year you’ve just gotta find a way to flush and move on from. They did that successfully after the 2015 debacle, I’ll be curious to see what next year looks like for State.

And no, I still don’t think Lemonis is anywhere close to being on the hot seat.

Ole Miss is in good shape. You guys will win tomorrow. A&M is all smoke and mirrors and it is about to crack up on them.

USM with another win is certainly helping themselves. If they can finish the sweep, they will be in prime position to host provided they have a strong conference tournament.

A&M took care of OM today and is SEC West champs, along with the 2 seed in the SECT.

Looks like Vandy will be the 8 seed and OM will be the 9 seed, so they'll meet up Tuesday afternoon. OM is 38th in the RPI currently while Vandy is 5th in RPI. I lean OM gets an NCAAT bid win or lose Tuesday, but a win would leave no doubt.

Last projection I saw was OM as the 3 seed in the Louisville regional.

Whoever gets OM in their regional will not be excited about that.

I think so also, but we'll see.

It's an odd thing to say, but true this year. It's a good thing Ole Miss won't be in Oxford for any of the postseason.

I agree that Ole Miss is PROBABLY in regardless, but it wouldn’t hurt to win that Vandy game on Tuesday just in case some crazy things happen in other conference tourneys.

A&M winning the West in Year 1 under Schloss is not what I would have predicted at all. Kudos to them. They’ll be a host and perhaps a Top 8 seed, though I tend to agree with B4 that they may not be a legit contender.

USM swept MTSU, and their RPI is back up to 13. As of today they’d probably make the cut to host, but a strong showing in the conference tourney (being played in Hattiesburg, FWIW) should remove any doubt.

If they can get the pitching and hitting on the same page, they’ll be a tough out.   Just like last year, a regional may be more difficult than a super, but that’s thinking way too far ahead.

I agree A&M is probably not as good as they’ve played, but I was also wondering if this season is because they brought Schloss in.   For the most part he had a consistently really good program at TCU.

I'm not sold A&M is an Omaha team this year, but counting them out is silly IMO.

Tennessee is the easy pick for Omaha this year, and deserves to be. Call me crazy, I lean UT gets upset in their Super Regional. When a team ROLLS through the regular season like this, they seam to get upset in the playoffs.

A&M is still all smoke and mirrors and it is about to crack up on them. Schlossenagle is a tremendous coach.

USM with another win has definitely put themselves in position to host but they will probably need to win CUSAT to guarantee it.

I agree with Reb that Tennessee is very liable to lose in either a Regional or SR. They have a great team but when you get into Regionals, everybody is good, the pressure is intense, games are usually closer. They have had an easy time of it but are probably due for a stretch of difficult games where WTF moments happen and nothing comes easy.

State is mercifully finished. In this particular case, I believe it will be a good thing, to start with a new roster next year as most of the regulars will be gone,

I have thought for a while that a non-SEC team probably wins it all this year. Don’t think it’s been a great year for the league. Even with Tennessee you can argue that they haven’t been tested that much and avoided some of the other best teams in the league (A&M, Arkansas, etc.)

I just think of last year when you had 4-5 different SEC teams that you thought could legitimately win the national title. This year it’s Tennessee and MAYBE Arkansas but I’m not seeing it beyond that.

Maybe Tennessee is finally the 1 seed that breaks the trend and wins the whole thing. It’s bound to happen for a top seed eventually. But history is not on their side.

Well I know this is a baseball thread but both of our softball teams are still alive today. Obviously both have a monumental challenge (State @ Florida State and Ole Miss @ UCLA) to win two games. But that is why the games are played.
Would love to see both advance though it is not likely.

At the same time I am proud of where we are in softball these days. Both programs are solid top thirty teams. Obviously we would like to see them continue to move up. A lot of good things are in place though.

With that said, go Lady Rebs & Dawgs!!!

USM is currently #13 in RPI, pretty good shape as of today.

I don't think they'll need to win the CUSAT, but probably needs to reach the SEMIs (if not finals) to secure a host bid.

WOW

Lady Dawgs take down Florida State 5-0 and 4-3 to win the Tallahassee Regional. What an uplifting way to end the weekend after baseball finished up yesterday.

Florida State was 54-5 and the overall #2 seed coming into today.  Tremendous wins by our girls.

First ever SR for the softball program. Did we have a baseball team at State this spring?
Very proud of the ladies!!!!

Ole Miss goes one and done in Hoover. I still probably put their chances of getting in the NCAAT at 60/40 or 70/30 but it’s certainly going to be close. They’ll almost assuredly be a 3 seed if they get in. You don’t want to see very many upsets in conference tourneys if you’re OM.

If they get in, it’s probably because they went 5-1 on the road against Auburn and LSU. Definitely not because of anything they did at home, they only went 5-10 in Oxford in SEC play and three of those wins were Missouri.

An intoxicated OM fan got a touch loud last night up in a box at hoover while speaking his mind about Bianco.  Then all of the Bianco family members present got involved. Ugly stuff. I wonder does he really leave on is own this year and if he lands at another SEC school, in the east maybe.

I certainly hate to hear something like that happened. Sports are a zero sum total. For every winner there is a loser. In baseball nobody is going to go undefeated during a season. Particularly in the SEC, where what Tennessee did this year is extremely rare. We know the SEC is very competitive top to bottom in baseball.

I think Coach Bianco is a tremendous coach. And the fact that a fan was and I am guessing here, vulgar and obnoxious among other things at a game is inexcusable. Some of our own State fans have been the same way toward Coach Lemonis less than a year after we won the NC.

I just don’t get it at all. Just disappointing and a bad look all the way around. It is okay to be disappointed when we lose but personally attacking the coach and or players verbally and/or otherwise (social media etc.) is very demeaning to the person themself, the team and the university.

Booing, not even going to games, etc. basically all the usual are understandable when fans aren't happy with their coach and/or team, but this is college and these are college kids so personal attacks on the coach or the players particularly in person is not acceptable. Period. Plus it's a pretty good way to get your ass whipped.
