rebmus
Ole Miss opens at Hawaii, first pitch is at 10:35 tonight. I doubt many Rebels will stay up to watch tonight (I won't). Very few Rebels made the trip to watch.
Bulldogs4
State played several series in Hawaii back in the 1980’s. The ‘85 team went to Hawaii during Spring Break. When they returned, SEC play started and we were swept at Auburn. And the team went into a slump. Eventually they came out of it and finished second in the West and then won the SECT in Baton Rouge en route to the CWS. Even though it was a great trip for the players and fans , I suspect Coach Polk later regretted the trip because it contributed to the tailspin that they went into after returning. Hopefully for Ole Miss it will be a great and successful trip with no hangover after coming back home.

Dawg83
lol Ole Miss won in extras in a game that ended at like 3:30 am central. Shades of State vs LSU from Hoover in 2019.

Bulldogs4
Reminds of a Braves game back in the early 1980’s (before they established a curfew) that finished around 4-5A in the morning and Dale Murphy joked that his morning newspaper was in the driveway when he arrived home….LOL Seems like State-USM played into the wee hours of the night during the Hattiesburg Regional because of numerous rain delays…maybe 2017? I remember we were on vacation at PCB and my BIL and I stayed up listening to it….

Bulldogs4
Ole Miss-Hawaii start a DH at 5P/8P CST tonight so barring extra innings the second game should be over by midnight. Weather slightly better there. HNL 70 degrees and clear tonight. Starkvegas 40 degrees, cloudy and windy this afternoon. Simply great baseball weather…. Hopefully no players suffer any injuries. Dawg83
Welp, didn’t take long for the bad to return. State blows it in the 9th and drops Game 2 to Air Force.
Bulldogs4
Atrocious base running (as Jay Powell correctly called it) was a huge reason we lost today along with the failure to throw strikes in the ninth inning. We took ourselves out of, I think, three scoring opportunities with poor base running. Pitching was actually good except for Holcomb’s wildness late. Bulldogs4
Ole Miss leads the series 2-1 with the finale today. Need to win that one to feel like it was a successful weekend. State’s weekend is already a failure but we certainly need to win today to salvage the series. Hopefully we did some base running drills after the game yesterday. Bulldogs4
Simply a disappointing weekend for both squads. 2-1 series win for State but should have been a sweep. Ole Miss with 2-2 record at Hawaii is similarly disappointing. Hawaii is usually decent but if you are Ole Miss it is disappointing after winning the first two games to flame out in games 3 & 4. Especially giving up 22 runs in two games. That is an ugggghhhh. Still a long season ahead but the start was not very promising. We will see how it goes. State needs go 13-1 in the next fourteen games but I don’t see that happening now.
Dawg83
I didn’t watch either of the last two State games so I can’t say much on this team yet. 2-1 weekends are usually not that big of a deal but given the last two years I think anyone with concern about dropping a game already has every right to be. Former Coach
Come on guys. Outside of Holcombe's 2 walk top of the 9th, and the base running mistakes, State played well. Pitched it a WHOLE lot better than opening weekend last year. Every pitcher outside of Holcombe was very effective and threw strikes. I like the new approach. Stop nibbling on the corners and hit bats and let the defense play.

No doubt they did seem to pitch it much better compared to last year. At least for a three game sample size. I’m not 100% sure what this team is offensively but I do know they’ve got some guys hurt right now. Hopefully they can get Koehler and Mershon back soon and I know Highfill has been limited as well. Like we’ve alluded to, just hard to know much when you’re playing far less talented teams. And also nonconference is weird sometimes anyway. I’ve seen teams blow through nonconference only to get killed in SEC play, and I’ve seen teams stumble through February only to figure it out and end up being really good eventually, sometimes even end up in Omaha. rebmus
MSU lost at home to Austin Peay today to move to 2-2. It's way too early, but it's hard to argue against the experts that picked Ole Miss and MSU to finish towards the bottom of the SEC.

State seems to have kinda fixed the pitching to some extent and now they can’t hit at all. As in they look like they’ve never seen an off speed pitch before. And if you’re State, why do you want a repeat of last year? It feels like we’ve picked back up right where we left off last year. I would love for this team to make some positive strides, but where’s the evidence that’s going to happen?

Bulldogs4
I will say this four games in that I am glad our pitching is better but the Dave Kingman batting approach is not going to work. To reach my expectations, we now have to win thirteen in a row. LOL The chances of that happening are about the same as Trump and Biden eating lunch together at Mar-a-lago.
