Definitely a good win for Ole Miss. State fell 6-1 to A&M to lose the series but on the road winning one game is not bad.

Caught the last few innings of FL-LSU. Gators were down 4-2 late but were able scratch runs in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game and then won in extra innings.

Coach Polk’s mantra was (in conference play) win two out of three at home and split on the road. That (road) is going to be tough this year in the conference for most teams. Avoiding the dreaded sweep is the big key. At this juncture it is hard to see anyone winning more than 19 games and there may be a log jam at the top with a bunch of teams between 18 & 14 wins in the conference at the end of the regular season.

State’s schedule is really interesting because the road schedule is brutal but the home schedule is…. Not bad?

I think both State and OM should be pleased with 3-3 in the first two weeks given who they opened with.

Ole Miss gets Kentucky at home next weekend, UK is pretty good but that’s definitely a winnable series for OM. State is at Florida for what I believe is the first time they’ve played in UF’s new park. Florida is a weird team that’s hard to get a good read on, but they’re very talented, of course.

I know this is a baseball forum but the State girls had an incredible comeback against Florida tonight. Down 12-6 late, we scored 7 runs to win 13-12. In softball, a 7 run inning is unheard of especially against a top ten team.

What a game!!! This team can possibly make a run in the Tournament later in the year. Still a lot of season left to play but that is a kind of win that can really propel a team. Though they have been playing really well all season.

I guess it is cliche to say but big series for both State and Ole Miss this weekend. Very surprised that these games were not THU-SAT due to Easter being Sunday.
Ole Miss needs to win two & State one this weekend. Florida is really good but they are not invincible. KY has a decent team. A sweep for Ole Miss would be tremendous but in the league this year , that is going to be difficult.
Looks like the weather is going to be beautiful for the weekend.

I think this may be State’s best softball team in school history. They have a very real chance to be a Top 16 and host a Regional for the first time ever this year.

Ultimate choke job.  Up 6-2 going into the bottom of the 8th and the pitching wheels fell off for State.  Florida with the walkoff in the bottom of the ninth to win 7-6.

That felt like an ending straight out of 2022 or 2023.

This may be a dumb question, but how do you let that happen?  Did we put 2022 and 2023 on repeat tonight?  I mean this is probably a better baseball team than the past two years, but you’ve got to close out games on the road especially when you’ve got a 4 run lead going into the last two innings.

No this was not 2022 or 2023. Those teams would have been run ruled 12-2 in seven innings tonight.

Yes blowing the lead in the 8th & 9th inning is disappointing but it does not erase a lot of good things we did tonight.

I fault Lemonis and our AD for not scheduling some tough road games in the early season. It is hard to expect a Freshman to perform under the pressure of a SEC Road game when he has not experienced it before. We need to play games at USM, at Lafayette, at USA or Troy and/or a strong P5 club.

Our weak early schedule bit us tonight and might bite us some more later in the season because we did not play any quality teams on the road.

My brain immediately went to that Friday night game vs LSU in 2022 where Fristoe was one strike away several times and it just totally unraveled, I guess that’s more along the lines of what I was recalling, not so much the every other day run rules of last year.

I just don’t think the talent on this team as a whole is great. I hate to pick on individual players but two of the bullpen arms struggling tonight had similar issues in 2022 or 2023.

There are some nice pieces on this team but I personally don’t see much depth at all.

meanwhile, Bianco loses another one

State and Ole Miss are just determined to copy each other on a daily basis. Identical overall and SEC records right now. Ole Miss has the better RPI, I presume due to playing a tougher nonconference schedule than State.

Heck of a bounce back by State today, did not see them beating down Florida after the way last night ended.

Assuming this holds, 4 wins in these first three series is a good coaching job by Lemonis. A win tomorrow would just be gravy.

Bad weekend in Oxford as Kentucky has won the first two. I think UK is good but definitely a step back for OM after the first two SEC series were honestly perfectly acceptable.

Yeah we suck. So much so that I didn’t even know we were playing. Didn’t see or listen to a single pitch.

Ole Miss does not suck. You still have a good team but I get it that it is disappointing to lose the first two games at home to a team that you should beat.

Regarding State, I know last night was heartbreaking. But this team is better than 22 or 23. I am glad to see us bounce back tonight.
We will see how it goes tomorrow. A win would be great but now a loss is not a killer.

They’re getting reliable starting pitching this year and solid middle relief. They lack a shutdown closer but it’s definitely an improved pitching staff. Jurrangelo was excellent yesterday and Stephen has better numbers here than he had at Purdue.

When Ron Polk said “that’s baseball” this is the kind of series he’s referring to. State led for 90% of the weekend and only won 1 of 3 games. Led going to ninth twice and lost both games.

The lack of a good closer on this team is obvious. But I don’t think they’re in a bad spot at all after 9 SEC games. That said, some very important series upcoming that you need to get some wins in.

At least we have some hope now.

I actually feel like going into any game now that we are going to win.
The only real blowout loss was to Ga. Southern.

The other losses have been either close games or games that were not an absolute blowout (10 run rule) type games.

And yes you are correct. We need to win the winnable games that are upcoming.
