Still Charleston's road was a lot easier than Heidelberg's.  Charleston side of the bracket was very weak until they faced Union.

Because it was the playoffs and Raleigh was playing better teams than they were in that terrible district. Raleigh played Heidelberg the same they played all season. They just ran up on a team that was better that night. Their offense was behind their defense all season, and was always going to struggle anytime they played a good defense. Raleigh struggled up front offensively, and that’s the reason they lost. Heidelberg has had the best offense in 2A all season, and Raleigh held their offense to 8 points. The defense is championship level but they just didn’t have the offense this year.

You would be doing yourself a disservice if you attempt to crown any team as having the best offense/defense based on scores. Charleston only played the starters 3 times in the 2nd half since district play started. (Leflore County, Philidelphia, Union). Subs has given up all 2nd half points with the exception of 7 to Union. Charleston is much better than you realize.

 

Heidlberg will be a formidable opponent no doubt. Things will work itself out on Friday.

Charleston’s road through the playoffs may have been much easier than Heidelberg’s but Charleston’s regular season was much tougher. Charleston’s offense prob would’ve averaged 60 if you switch Winona, Clarksdale, Ripley, North Panola and Cleveland Central out for Richton, East Marion, Newton, Perry Central and North Forrest.

I think Charleston wins the game but they haven't played a good team since September 29, until last Friday against Union.  So yes their early season was tough but not so much lately, whereas Heidelberg did get battle tested in the playoffs.

I feel Columbia is a state championship caliber team, but unfortunately they have to beat Louisville to do it. Reminds me of the 2003 an 2005 West Jones that were good enough to win one, but not good enough to beat Wayne County.

I agree NoWammies. We are never interested in putting up 60 on anyone (we had several opportunities to but look at the bigger picture). Comfortable leads have given us the opportunity to get more experience for the subs which helps with building a stronger program. We are losing 6 seniors in total and will need to keep moving forward. Those seniors will be missed but I wish them the best of luck with those who will move on the next level academically and/or athletically.

I’ll bring up the question, at this point in the season would you rather have had a tough last couple weeks(and last game) where your players are a lil banged up and still hurting on Tuesday or would you wanna already know you’re a good team that’s clicking based off the battles you had during the regular season but have been able to rest your starters in the second half the last few games?

Now that is a great question and I believe it comes down to the type of kids and program you have.  I have seen two teams in back to back years have both things occur.  One year the team with the easiest path beat the team with the hardest path and the next year the roles were reversed.

I don’t know if 05 would have won it. But 03 for sure was capable. 02 I think would have if we had coach Pierson a year earlier so this kids had an extra year in his system. 04 was good enough to win it if not for jimmy johns @brookhaven. 2009 and 10 could have got there (2010 not getting there is biggest choke job in Wj football history) but I’m not sure they beat those West Point teams. 2018 was 3 plays away from it. 2019 was good enough but picayune came in pissed from us beating them in 18 and outplayed the crap out of us.  2021 and 22 were good enough but a slew of injuries late and some questionable coaching decisions doomed them.

Don’t be surprised if West Jones has a running clock vs Grenada 2nd half.  And if not they should still win handily.  I honestly think WJ scores 42+ and Grenada doesn’t break 10 until after WJ puts in the backups.

Do you think Grenada will have too much of a hangover after knocking off South Panola?  I certainly don't see them winning it, but I'm curious if they'll be able to keep the deficit in check.

Hangover or not the only way it stays in check is if west does stupid things or turns the ball over.  
 

They had 2 kick return td’s and a turnover return td to open up 20 point lead on south pAnola early. South pAnola outscored them the rest of the way but not enough to erase the deficit.

I expect them to win pretty convincingly but from a pure entertainment standpoint I’m hoping for a close couple of quarters at the very least
