Smith County Football

Smith County has a great football tradition. I lived in Taylorsville for a number of years during their glory days. They have 8 State championships that they won and 5 that they lost. They have played in 20 South State championship games. The playoffs began in 1981. this will be number 24 this year. The Tartars have played in almost half of the South Championships. This year will be # 20. I hope all 3 teams can advance with Mize having a rough road ahead.

Mize gone get killed but them other 2 games ought be good games.  Mize just got to play a team that on another level. Mitch Evans gone be hard to beat twice and Simmons gone be hard to be at home done seen how they get them calls.  Hooe they all win!

Hope they all go to state again, I believe Raleigh comes out with the w ,but it's gonna be a game,Taylorsville is capable of winning, they're no where the team they were the first four games but the game is at Simmons so guess we'll know when the clock reaches double 00,mize definitely has a short mountain to climb but any team can be beaten on any given game day! Most definitely pulling for all three!

     SMITH COUNTY STRONG!

Mize gave Heidelberg their best game against anybody not named Noxubee or McCallie Tennessee. It was the only game other than those 2 that wasn’t a running clock. Mize was more physical than Heidelberg, but Heidelberg was far and away more athletic and pulled away in the 4th quarter. You just cannot out-athlete them. Way too much team speed on both sides of the ball. They only had 4 seniors on offense so will still be very good offensively next season. They do lose a lot on defense though, there was 7 senior starters on that side of the ball. They will still be very good regardless. Mize returns a lot next season, 16 returning starters, so these two teams should be the top teams in all of 2A, IMO. I wish we weren’t in the same region because there’s a good chance we will have to play each other twice

The wing-t would work just as well at west jones as it does anywhere else. It’s the most successful offense in history. Raleigh would not have the success they have had if they ran any other offensive system. The wing-t is suited best for their roster. And I imagine if Hig or any other good coach knows they have the athletes capable, they would have multiple packages to accommodate the skill set of their roster. Running the ball and playing good defense has always been and always will be the biggest keys to success. It’s not the only keys to success,  but it’s the biggest.

Hig is a winner. He came from a winning system, and he knows how to instill that mindset into his players. Believe it or not, Raleigh isn’t loaded with athletes. They had a once in a generation type player in Get a couple years ago, but that school doesn’t have a lot of “athletic” players. They have alot of tough, hard nosed “football” players. They play fast and physical on defense, and pound the ball on offense, controlling the clock wearing the other team down. That’s really what small school high school football is all about. You have a handful of small schools that are super athletic that you can spread the field with, but most small schools are best suited for the style and mindset that teams like Raleigh implement.

I think it would have worked great at WJ the last 2-3 years.  Not sure about next year where they will have 2 legit receiving threats, and up to 4 per some unconfirmed rumors.

Sorry Merlin.  I can't imagine Picayune playing a mirror and it be WJ.  That's one I have difficulty wrapping my head around LOL.

I was just making observation.  The wing could have done really well at WJ the last 3-4 years with that bingo-line and those 2 rb’s, and basically no receiving threats till this season.

But after this we may have personnel more fit for spread again.

um also hearing the bay springs coach is highly interested if WJ is searching.  He’s a former player, and I think assistant, at west.
