I dont think that game had anything to do with karma or calls or anything making somebody more favorable than the other school. The rain limited everybody to running and Calhoun City was just better in the trenches on the right plays.
-
Looks like it will be a wet contest as the game progresses.

Probably thanks to the Weir powerhouse days.

This is the week all the student athletes work hard to get to. Unfortunately only two teams can make it. Congratulations to Calhoun City and Simmons-Hollandale for making it this far. This is typically a north half matchup and likely have been some matchups in the past in the playoffs from when these two schools were both 2A. Both teams have had their fare share of challenges. Calhoun city played a very tough non-district schedule to where their only loss came from a close game with a very talented 4A Senatobia team while beating some very good 3A & 4A schools as well. Simmons more competitive contests came during the last few weeks of the playoffs. If there is one thing the last few 1A championships have shown us is not to count anybody out just yet and the game is played until the last seconds tick off the clock in the 4th quarter. Who will win? The Calhoun City Wildcats taking a gold ball back to the Boneyard or “Big Blue” Simmons Blue Devils returning a gold ball to Hollandale in the Delta?

I just been hearing a lot about the Simmons-Taylorsville game and how Taylorsville was robbed the game. I do know from watching it though that Taylorsville had several red zone and goal line attempt that was stopped by Simmons defense. Rather it was called horrible or not, any time teams are stopping you from scoring on the goal line several time likely mean somebody’s team is not being credited for having a good defense like they do.
-
Idk much about the narrative from the Simmons-Taylorsville game but it seems like a defensive slobber knocker. Taylorsville lone TD came from a blocked punt deep in Simmons territory and their safety came from a defensive stop after 1 of many defensive stops Simmons had with Taylorsville on the goal line knocking for a TD..

According to this link, the South teams are the designated home teams. https://www.misshsaa.com/2025/11/23/starkville-mississippi-state-on-tap-to-host-2025-football-state-championships/

It’s a good look when you see multiple teams from the same county making it that far.

Finally have gotten to some must see games. Calhoun City still looking like the favorites but will have to travel to Biggersville, who can be well coached at times. Will Biggersville come up with the perfect scheme to dethrone and compete with Calhoun City at home? In the south are two teams who have been familiar with each other at the 1A level. Taylorsville is taking the drive to the Delta to face Simmons in Hollandale. Good defenses and two offenses that can be explosive. Who is leaving Hollandale as the South State Champs. North State Calhoun City at Biggersville South State Taylorsville at Simmons

Next round. 3 weeks of football left. Should be a lot of very competitive matchups. Will there be any upsets this week or will the upsets finally come to an end? What do you think will be the north/south half matchups? North Biggersville at Okolona Leflore County at Calhoun City South Simmons at Nanih Waiya Taylorsville at Leake County

Will be interesting. None of the playoffs refs are from the area they normally referee in.

Cleveland always keep a speedster or few.

Probably not currently but I believe a similar situation has happened within the past 2 or 3 years with west Tally traveling to Resurrection for a playoff game while West Tally was considered a 1A south team. It was just hypothetically saying it can happen and a rough long travel for somebody.

On to the next round. There was an upset with Okolona last week. Simmons had a slow time warming up to Noxapater. They will be probably looking to show their dominance this week. The other front runners in Calhoun City, Biggersville, Nanih Waiya, and Taylorsville are still looking strong. Who will pull the upset this week? Which road team is expected to get a win this week? On a another note, anytime I see a Delta team traveling to South Mississippi and vice versa gets to me every time. 2-5 hours for a football game sometimes. Good thing there isn’t anybody having to go play Resurrection on the coast especially for a playoff game. For example, if the northern most south team West Bolivar had a contest against the southern most south team Resurrection, then thats a 5 hours and 15 minute drive for whoever has to travel. The average drive for anybody out side of the pine belt is about 3-3.5 hrs. NORTH West Lowndes at Biggersville. Drive time 1 hr 37 minutes Okolona at Falkner. Drive time 1 hr 17 minutes Tupelo Christian at Calhoun City. Drive time 1 hr 4 minutes Byers at Leflore County. Drive time 2 hr 21 minutes SOUTH Lumberton at Nanih Waiya. Drive Time 2 hr 41 minutes Stringer at Simmons. Drive Time 2 hr 53 minutes Leake County at Bogue Chitto Drive Time 1 hr 56 minutes South Delta at Taylorsville Drive Time 2 hr 30 minutes

I dont know if Shaw will pull an upset over Leake County but I will say that it is a team where they start a freshmen qb, and allow other freshmen in skill and lineman play to get significant time with the few seniors to grow them. Outside of the Calhoun City, Northside, and Simmons game, they have given all others a fit in their growth and development but lack late stretches of execution to maintain and secure a win. I think the Shaw/Leake County game will be a lot closer than what people will expect rather its an upset win or loss tonight. Those freshmen guys will have huge size, speed, and athletic abilities their junior & senior years As long as they are not recruited away or have to move away if their parents leave. So far only one key player in that freshmen group have left and heard that kid was having a phenomenal year up in Desoto County.

I think that the best team Simmons probably faced until probably late playoffs is Leflore County. We (Shaw) played both Simmons and Calhoun City. I cant really say who was better as they both were played not at full strength. Calhoun City looks to have the better athletes. I will say this though. Simmons, even though could scheduled better non-conference, play the schedule that is in front of them and will draw money to their school. Simmons also have what nearly none of what smaller classifications has and what mostly the 5A-7A schools have which is some form of indoor training/practice facility. Their school has invested well in player’s toughness and development.
