The last week of regular season football is here. As usual, some seedings for the playoffs will be decided Friday. Looking at the regions as a whole, I believe region 8 may have been the toughest region this year. After this week settles and the seedings are officially determined, I believe there will be quite a few lower seeded teams getting first round wins. Well as long as Region 1 and 4 are not paired in the first round. I dont think it will be an easy win for whoever region 8 is paired with in the first round either. Time shall tell. Only 2 more weeks of regular season football are left before playoffs games begins. Outside of the few best teams in 1A, it has been pretty unpredictable about gauging teams. Vardaman and Falkner have been controlling their region well in the north. Baldwyn, who seems to be 1A north’s best team have a region title matchup with Biggersville Friday. Lumberton and Velma Jackson are looking to be in sole control of their region in the south with Taylorsville expected to control their region. Another game for deciding the region title includes a 1A top 5 matchup between Simmons and West Tallahatchie for the region crown. Who will be healthy and playoffs ready in a few weeks? Sidenote: There are quite a number of schools that has more 1A kids in a school than Salem to not be capable to field a football team particularly in northeast MS area. Maybe Im looking more into it by not considering cost for venues to play and revenue generating from the events. One of 1A north team will receive a bye in round 1 while 3 of 1A south teams have 6 teams and have to fight for a playoff spot. Now every 1A district is now in region play. Who will make it to the playoffs to continue for the quest for the 1A title? There are still a few promising games left throughout the season? I believe this week will be the last week of non-divisional football for most of 1A while a few regions will be into their second week of region games. It is starting to look interested for what could potentially be competitive, challenging playoff games in South 1A football come the second round and afterwards. Velma Jackson, Taylorsville, Lumberton, Simmons are looking to handle their divisions pretty soundly in South 1A. Teams like West Tally (who gave Charleston, a 2A favorite, problems for a few quarters a few weeks back especially defensively) , and Enterprise-Licoln have been showing promises of any given Friday an upset could happen. South Delta even though 1-5 have had a tougher non-district schedule and played Simmons to start off region play. I am interested to see the outcome of this South Delta-West Tally game and when West Tally plays Simmons a few weeks from now. Think is my game of the week for 1A. Is South Delta-West Tally Baldwyn is appearing to be the north’s front runner. Vardaman and Faulkner seems to be easily controlling their regions. It may be the north half game to where 1A north seems competitive, but I may be wrong. Time shall tell. My gut feeling is telling me Charleston is too much for them and they will get beaten like they done others by down scheduling their first few games. It’s way too early but I think this year’s top 4 seeding in this region will probably repeat like last year’s seedings. The order to probably be determine between 2-4. However, each district team has gotten better and has more fight. But Nobody is in no way, shape, nor form near competing with Simmons this year. Outside of Simmons I think all other matchups will be closer and competitive.

A few weeks in and some teams are really standing out. Some teams are even off to really good starts for their programs. A few more weeks and we will be into district play. Teams like Baldwyn, Vardaman, Simmons, Taylorsville, Velma Jackson are still showing why they are early favorites to make it to Hattiesburg. Sleepers like South Delta, and Lumberton have been showing they can hang around with higher classifications that can be playoffs potential. Lumberton actually has beating a few of the higher class. Teams like West Tallahatchie, Falkner, Myrtle, Ethel and Enterprise-Lincoln have had good start for their school programs, which are always good motivators to building up a program.
