I think that the best team Simmons probably faced until probably late playoffs is Leflore County. We (Shaw) played both Simmons and Calhoun City. I cant really say who was better as they both were played not at full strength. Calhoun City looks to have the better athletes. I will say this though. Simmons, even though could scheduled better non-conference, play the schedule that is in front of them and will draw money to their school. Simmons also have what nearly none of what smaller classifications has and what mostly the 5A-7A schools have which is some form of indoor training/practice facility. Their school has invested well in player’s toughness and development.

I believe they did away with that this year for all sports to have the exact region teams. The delta district both adds and subtract teams in various sports. Houlka volleyball was in the delta regions was split between north and south regions. Also I believe Leflore County was in the south delta volleyball region. I believe Leflore County, who is north in football is in the south and in the delta basketball region. Whatever logic MHSAA is using is something that cant be explained.

According to B Shields & Msgridiron/CapitalSports Region 1-1A Biggersville has clinched the No. 1 seed and Thrasher has clinched the No. 4 seed. The winner of the TCPS-Smithville game on Thursday will be the No. 2 seed and the loser the No. 3 seed. Region 2-1A If Falkner beats Potts Camp and Byers beats Ashland on Thursday, then Falkner is the No. 1 seed, Byers the No. 2 seed, Potts Camp the No. 3 seed, and Ashland the No. 4 seed. If Ashland beats Byers by 12 points or more and Falkner wins, then Falkner is the No. 1 seed, Potts Camp the No. 2 seed, Ashland the No. 3 seed, and Byers the No. 4 seed. If Potts Camp beats Falkner and Ashland wins, then Potts Camp is the 1 seed, Falkner the No. 2 seed, Ashland the No. 3 seed, and Byers the No. 4 seed. If both Potts Camp and Byers win then it will come down to a point differential tie-breaker to determine the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 seeds between Falkner, Byers and Potts Camp, while Ashland will be the No. 4 seed. Region 3-1A The winner of the Calhoun City-West Lowndes game on Thursday will be the No. 1 seed and the loser is the No. 2 seed. The winner of the Coffeeville-French Camp game on Thursday is the No. 3 seed and the loser is the No. 4 seed. Region 5-1A Nanih Waiya has clinched the No. 1 seed. If Leake County beats Noxapater and Ethel beats Sebastopol on Thursday, then Leake County is the No. 2 seed, Ethel the No. 3 seed, and Noxapater the No. 4 seed. If Noxapater beats Leake County by 7 points or less and Ethel wins, then Leake County is the No. 2 seed, Noxapater the No. 3 seed, and Ethel the No. 4 seed. If Noxapater beats Leake County by 8 points or more and Ethel wins, then Noxapater is the No. 2 seed, Leake County the No. 3 seed, and Ethel the No. 4 seed. If Sebastopol beats Ethel between 5-8 points and Leake County wins, then Leake County is the No. 2 seed, Noxapater the 3 seed, and Sebastopol the 4 seed. If Sebastopol beats Ethel between 9 points or more and Leake County wins, then Leake County is the No. 2 seed, Sebastopol the 3 seed, and Noxapater the 4 seed. If both Sebastopol and Noxapater win, then Noxapater is the No. 2 seed, Leake County the No. 3 seed, and Sebastopol the No. 4 seed. Region 6-1A Simmons has clinched the No. 1 seed and South Delta has clinched the No. 2 seed. If Shaw beats Riverside on Friday, then Shaw is the No. 3 seed and West Bolivar the No. 4 seed. All of the north regions only have 4 teams. They all automatically make the playoffs unless they get banned.

This is the last week of regular season football. For the north teams congratulations to all school as they have made the playoffs. For the south schools a few districts have games to determine seedings and elimination. Most region champ titles have already been decided. There is an interesting one region brewing with Leflore County and West Tallahatchie. Will Lumberton rebound and defeat Taylorsville? Will Sebastopol beat Ethel and add to the madness for playoff position. Will Leake County beat Noxapater and hold on to the 2nd seed? Does anybody know how the regions are paired for the first round playoffs? Two weeks left until the end of the regular season. Region 5 looks like the hardest region to put together who will make the playoffs. A few years back when it was 4 regions and before mergers teams like Durant, french camp, montgomery county, coffeeville and McAdams were in the delta district before west bolivar and simmons joined. Yearly drives for a game.

This is the first week every 1A region will have a region game. The past 2 weeks only 3 of the 4 south regions have played 2 region games. The north teams will automatically have all of their teams make the playoffs while the south teams will have to at least win one region games in 3 of the 4 regions to be playoffs elgible. Nanih Waiya at Sebastopol should be interesting. Nanih waiya can take full control of the region with this win. Sebastopol could cause controversy in that region if they can pull off the win. Also Noxapater and Ethel will give a chance to see how good Ethel have been dince their impressive start. Some of the other matchups I’m looking forward to in helping shaping up region leaders after this week’s games are the West Tally/Leflore County matchup, Taylorsville/Lumberton matchup, and Sebastopol/Nanih Waiya matchup esp if Nanih Waiya beats Noxapater.

This is the second week of region games for a few districts while it looks like some teams are still in non-district play. Also looks as if a lot of teams are having this week as a bye week to prepare for the upcoming district play. Maybe there needs to be a better job with assigning teams to districts. Outside of football, a number of teams crosses between north and south half teams to help make regions have more football playing teams. On another note, there are a few rival games going on this week. Pretty interesting game there in Winston County with Nanih Waiya/Noxapater game, and with neighboring towns with South Delta/Simmons game. Most regions have 1 more week of non-district play while a few are starting their district play this week. (Regions 5,6 and 8 if I am not mistaken). Hopefully all of the kinks have been worked out by now. Which teams do you see being a surprise team in the region? What north half/south half matchup would you like to see? (I am not sure how the playoff brackets are set up this year.) I still think 1A north is Calhoun City as the favorite but Biggersville, West Tallahatchie and Leflore County will have something to say.. The South I believe is showing a few more teams to compete with Simmons, Nanih Waiya, Noxapater, Lumberton, Stringer, Taylorsville and maybe Sebastopol. The Stringer/Taylorsville matchup is looking interesting this week. This is the last week of non-conference football before district play. The last chance for teams to work out some of the kinks as next week everybody is 0-0 looking for a path to the playoffs. Some paths chose were harder schedule against tougher, larger classification. Some paths were more for team development and rebuilding. Who has been a surprise so far? Closer to the quarter mark of the season. Salem is 3-0 and should see what they are made of with the contest with Stringer this week. Calhoun City is still looking strong after the win against Winona. Last year West Tallahatchie gave Charleston all they can handle before Charleston took firm control. Will they have what it takes this year to keep it competitive? Lumberton and Wesson’s game should be very interesting. What game(s) do y’all think will be interesting this week?
