  1. I think it’s very possible Resurrection has a winless season unless they beat Christian Collegiate Friday.
  2. I think the north could possibly come down to West Tally and Leflore County. Calhoun City will still be there, but I am not impressed by a 10 point win over Myrtle. Biggersville is down as well. Basically, the real question in 1A this year is can anyone challenge Simmons? 1A as a whole is pretty weak this year outside of them. In my personal opinion, circle round 3 if whoever wins Region 8 (Stringer, Lumberton, Taylorsville) can win their way to that point. If I have it right, I believe Simmons would have to travel to one of those schools. That is what I believe will be Simmons’ biggest challenge.
  3. As far as small schools go, I think we will learn a lot about how much farther Taylorsville has went down based on how they perform against Bay Springs this Friday. Mize has a good team this year, but losing to them 56-6 is on another level. Bay Springs appears to be down this year as well after losing by 20 to South Pike. I think if Bay Springs wins this game by a 3-4 TD margin, it may be questioned if Taylorsville will be able to compete and win games in 1A this year.
  4. He had them ready to play. Stringer did not bring their A game whatsoever. Defense has some soul searching to do. Offense looked good in the 1st half, but they made way too many mistakes in the 2nd half to win. Kudos to Enterprise though. They were the better team tonight.
  5. Stringer has 13 seniors, with several of them being 3-4 year starters. Stringer graduated 2 really good players who are going to be hard to replace, but based on what I saw on Friday night, I think they will be just fine. Stringer may or may not be slightly overhyped due to 1A not being very strong this year, but I still think you’re underestimating them. I do believe that Enterprise can win this game, but I feel like the 17 point margin you predicted is a stretch. Should a good game overall in my opinion that’s decided by under 10 points in either team’s favor.
  6. The full game is on East Marion’s Hudl. I scrolled to where you could see the scoreboard, and it said 24-0 East Marion. Didn’t watch very much of it, but definitely looked one sided in East Marion’s favor.
  7. They did on video from what I saw. Tied 14-14. Stringer’s jamboree kind of got off schedule due to unforeseen circumstances, so they played more of a scrimmage against Perry Central and South Choctaw (AL). Did not keep score or have a running clock. Offensively, they exceeded my expectations. I think they ran around 20 plays against both teams and scored 5-6 touchdowns collectively. Defense was physical, but needs to make several adjustments before Friday night. They gave up too many big plays. I think them and Enterprise will be a good matchup overall. Very possible that it comes down to a touchdown or less in my personal opinion.
  8. I agree with Taylorsville being the preseason favorite, but by a very thin margin. They graduated a huge senior class including pretty much the entirety of their defense and offensive line. I think Stringer is capable of winning that game this year especially with them hosting. Look for that to be a competitive matchup to essentially decide who gets to host Simmons in the 3rd round. After them, you are correct about the drop off. Lumberton has a really talented QB, but they graduated a large senior class as well and will be trying to build anything they can around him.
  9. Simmons will be the favorite until proven otherwise. Last season head to head Stringer lost 30-14 at Simmons last year, but the score doesn’t truly reflect the game. The game was tied 8-8 end 3rd/ beginning of 4th, and a Simmons player goes down with a gruesome injury. 45-60 min delay due to ambulance travel time. First play back Simmons scores a long TD on 4th down and completely turns the game upside down. Simmons is more talented, but with the possibility of Stringer or Taylorsville, depending on who wins Region 8, getting to host that matchup, I think the outcome could possibly be different this season. Simmons is a good team though who returns basically their entire roster, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see them win it all.
  10. Stringer doesn’t just have Gordon. Just like you say people are underestimating Enterprise, you are underestimating what Stringer returns. Campbell was a heck of a back, but he couldn’t have had the season he had without the offensive line he was running behind. To add on to that, Dan Brady knows how to develop players just like he did Campbell. Just like usual, I think you will be proven wrong on August 28th. Not saying Stringer is a lock to win this game, but you will be surprised by the offensive success I personally think they will have post-Campbell contrary to what people believe.
  11. I think it will be a competitive game. Stringer should be improved defensively and returns 4 out of their 5 offensive lineman plus their QB. Loosing Campbell is definitely gonna hurt the first few games because the offense revolved around him, but they still have enough talent to build a high powered offense as the season progresses. Game 1 though i’m not really sure what to expect. I think it will come down to the 4th quarter similar to last season. Stringer wore Enterprise down and pulled away last season. I could see the same happening this season, but ultimately, who wants it more will win the game.
  12. Biggersville graduated 13 seniors according to MaxPreps. QB, top 4 leading rushers, top 3 leading receivers, and top 6 leading tacklers. Them and Calhoun City I feel like will be in a definite rebuilding phase this year. That is why I put Leflore County at 2 in the state and above other north teams with them returning most of their offensive and defensive production from last season. I personally think the north is definitely wide open, with Simmons being the clear preseason favorite in the south although teams like Stringer, Nanih Waiya, and maybe even Taylorsville if they get hot again could give them a run for their money.
  13. If they can get over the hump and beat Taylorsville, I think they could make a deep run as well. This should be the 2nd year in a row that Stringer is favored “on paper”, but the last two matchups they have played against them have been disappointing to say the least. It will be interesting to see if the outcome changes with Taylorsville having to hit the road.
  14. Gordon will be the guy. After him, the returning guys that will take reps in the backfield had a combined 16 carries last season. Lots of inexperience for sure, but luckily they will have a veteran offensive line to build a foundation around as the season goes along.
  15. As the season approaches, let’s talk about who we should watch out for in 1A football. Last season, Calhoun City claimed the 1A crown over Simmons 14-8 in a nail biter. Fast forward to this upcoming season, and Calhoun City will be fielding many new faces. Many successful teams from last season were hit hard with graduation such as Taylorsville and Biggersville. The classification looks wide open as far as who could become the new champion. Here are my preseason top 5 teams in 1A going into 2026: 1. Simmons 2. Leflore County 3. Nanih Waiya 4. Stringer 5. Calhoun City Honorable Mentions: Taylorsville Biggersville Bogue Chitto Three Games to Watch 1. Taylorsville @ Stringer (10/2) 2. Simmons @ Leflore County (9/4) 3. Noxapater @ Nanih Waiya (10/8) The top four on this list are teams that return the most statistical production on both sides of the ball. Had to stick Calhoun City at five with them being last year’s champion. Note: This list is merely my opinion, and could be proven wrong head to head.
