The football coach is the AD at several of the Jackson Metro schools. It’s a pretty normal thing.

But when you are trying to operate a 7A athletic department like a D1 athletic department, why combine the duties?  I get the point made about that being the way to give the HFC a bump in pay, but with the deep pockets that Brandon has, they should be able to afford both.  Give the base pay and then give supplemental pay.  Is there a limit on supplemental pay?

Brandon is part of Ranking county school system which has multiple High Schools. Yes, I am sure Brandon pays better than Pisgah but it ain't going to be crazy.

When you have industry, businesses, etc like Rankin County you have a much larger tax base you can pay more. At the rate their building hours Pisgah is heading towards being a 4A school some day.

Yeah ok. I am sure that Brandon has hired a search committee and they will be traveling all over the country to find the right coach. If you had said the southeast I would have believed you.

May not be too far fetched. Hattiesburg did just hire a coach from Georgia and the coach from St Martin is now in Utah.

Is there nobody on the Brandon staff who is deserving to be the next head football coach?  If I were on that staff, had the credentials and actually wanted the job, I would hope to at least be in the running. However, I’m not seeing that mentioned here unless I’ve missed it. Strange.

I agree.  As successful as they have been, the coordinators should be in the hunt.  Sam Williams is a very good football coach but he isn't the only reason for the success I wouldnt think.

Word around Ocean Springs is that Bramlett has put in for it. Not sure how true it is obviously, but it would make a ton of sense. Brandon matches every good thing Ocean Springs has from a lifestyle stand point pretty much and he will almost be a shoe in to get to south state in 7A year in and out at Brandon.

I don’t see this happening the cost a much better place to live and he’s dominating the district

Surprised the AD position isn’t separate from HFC position. Helps increase HFC $$$ when combined, but that’s a lot of responsibility throughout the year. Especially at a 7A program, at a school where all sports expect to be successful year in and year out.

That’s why a lot of football schools have assistant Athletic Directors.

But why does the Head Football Coach have to be the AD?  Down here at Picayune our AD is an assistant football coach and assistant principal.  Picayune also has an assistant AD as well.

What football coach has time to do all that, especially during football season when he is preparing for a game during the week while his players are in class and then after school practicing for 2.5 hrs. If the next person at Brandon can pull double duty, then I tip my hat to you my guy.

Apparently he's got to have a law degree as well, because he's got to advise in legal matters along with all the other junk.  It's the craziest job posting I've ever seen.  It'll definitely weed folks out.  Maybe they can get a Mike Leach reincarnation since he was a football coach with a law degree.

Sounds like they just punched something into ChatGPT. Think it’s just a regular Hear Coach/AD job,,

I agree with you all; the posts on this topic today are spot on. I believe there are 25 schools in 7A.  I can think of 4 off the top of my head where the AD/HFC positions are combined, and 2 are in Rankin County.  Old habits are hard to break, for some.  At the higher classifications, at least, the positions should be separate.  A 7A HFC cannot effectively fulfill the requirements of both positions, especially in the Fall, without a lot of assistance/dependence on an assistant AD (or two) and/or without taking a toll on his personal well-being.  It’s worthy of note that combining the positions of HFC/AD gives the principal of the school absolute and total control of the athletics program, to go along with his (already) inherent control of the educational program.  HFC walks, out walks the AD in the same pair of shoes.  Principal makes the hire; total control (pending Board approval, of course).  Combining the two positions also effectively eliminates females from the pool of AD candidates. Finally, combining the positions  of HFC/AD is not in the best interest of the school’s overall athletics program.  Separation of the HFC/AD  positions lends itself to overall athletics program stability, consistency and performance in our ever-changing, revolving-door modern world of head football coaches.
