Portal Season Thread

Starting the season off with some potentially huge developments in Starkville. Not final yet but we appear to be trending toward Jackson Arnold to State and MVB entering the portal. Mario Craver just entered the portal and the belief is it’s partially MVB related.

 

Arnold and Lebby are very close and he was a Top 10 overall prospect out of high school. Very mixed results for him at Oklahoma this year but the talent level is very much there.

Dane Key(UK) or Barion Brown(UK), Eric Singleton Jr.(GT), Caleb Odom(Bama), Caleb Cunningham, Cayden Lee out at WR with Ahmad Hardy(ULM), Logan Diggs and Shekai Mills-Knight at RB should give Simmons plenty to work with in his first year starting. I fully expect to pull in 2 or 3 of those WR’s. Hardy at RB is visiting this weekend. He was a 1,300 yard rusher and Sun Belt Freshman of the Year this year plus All Sun Belt First Team. Patrick Kutas OL from Arkansas who is currently ranked #3 transfer is crystal balled to Ole Miss. I expect Jeheim Oatis to transfer in who is also crystal balled to Ole Miss and if I had to guess the current #1 transfer Princewill Umanmielen(name should sound familiar) has Ole Miss up there on his list.

Well sometimes a change of scenery can benefit a QB like Arnold.

At my age, I will never get used to this new age of college sports. 

They might as well go back to the old days with uniforms that don’t have the name of the player on the back of the jersey. As we will not know who the players are anyway. 
School records are very safe as few players will play long enough with the same school going forward to threaten them. 
Hall of Fame’s will go the way of the 8 track stereo. No player will play at one school long enough to earn that status at that school.

I think it all depends on the type of player you bring in. I’m sure Dart will be in Ole Miss M-Club Hall of Fame since he broke Eli’s record and Perkins has a good shot at breaking Greg Hardy’s sack record. I get what you’re saying though.

Dart made a career at Ole Miss and has earned HofF status. 
But guys like him are going to be fewer and fewer in the future. 
If a Star player stays at the same school three years, it will be a surprise going forward.

Duke’s QB Maalik Murphy entered the portal and won’t play in the bowl game. He’ll be transferring to his third team.

Absolutely insane. Just don’t get it. He should have to forfeit any NIL money/gifts he has received at this point in time. 
And if he does not pay it back, the school should not release his transcript to the new school.

One that’s really ridiculous is Bear Alexander. He attended four high schools and will be on his third college team after he entered the transfer portal after only three games for USC this year so he could preserve his redshirt season.

I was told during Craver's suspension that he was headed to the portal and that there would not be a big push to keep him. Sometimes talent isn't worth the issues. I don't know how true it is but I trust my source.

All NIL money should be 4 year contracts. Let's say a player signs a $250,000 deal, come up with an amount, say $2500 a month that the player gets. Finish the season and get a $10,000 bonus. That's $40 grand. If you complete 3 years you have made $120,000. Give a $25 grand bonus after 3rd year. If player leaves at any time, remaining contract is voided. If they "redshirt" contract is voided, unless they stay for the next year. If the player returns for the forth he receives the remainder of the contract.

Craver told Lebby that MVB was the starter at QB and raised him own NIL amount.  Lebby said he'd be seeing Craver down the road and wished him well.

Jackson Arnold realistically had no chance to succeed with the conditions OU gave him. Completely new OLine, bad OC hire, multiple WR injuries. Can’t say Starkville will treat him much better if but it would be a great spot to restart with smaller expectations

I don’t think you have bad info. Craver had some off field issues and a high NIL asking price. Seemed like things were headed this way for a little while now. He had a strong game against A&M in mid October and then only had one catch the rest of the season afterward. I know some of that was injury but it became clear there were some things about his situation that had changed.

Van Buren officially in the portal. All eyes now turn to Jackson Arnold. Gotta say if he doesn’t end up at State then this situation would be a pretty big botch from Lebby and company.

Van Buren needs to wear #8 the rest of his career, no matter where he ends up.

In other news, Duke’s 2nd string QB also entered the portal today so they’ll be on their 3rd stringer against Ole Miss. Strange happenings there.

There have been rumors of Auburn after Van Buren for a few weeks... there's no doubt Auburn is after a QB hot and heavy.

Their fans keep saying just throw Deuce out there his freshman season but I hate to tell them, Deuce is far from SEC ready. I honestly don’t see him starting til year 3 if he’s still around there by then.
