Actually over the next 3-4 years don’t be surprised if south jones plays a couple south state games. If jones county goes through with this rumored te-drawing of lines to determine what kids go to what school northeast jones also will be a 5A power. NoWammies Posted November 11, 2024 Share Posted November 11, 2024 The defending 3A champ Winona can put a depressing 5-5 regular season behind them with an upset over the 3A North favorite Choctaw County this Friday night. One of those losses was a 35-21 defeat to Choctaw County. A lot of folks have wrote Winona off but they have the athletes to pull off this revenge game. I’ll go with them as a 3A dark horse. Exactly. This area has been going to west forever but a small portion used to get bused to northeast jones to keep a certain percentage of minorities in each school. This practice ended 10-15 years ago and all these kids started going to west. Northeast jones great teams in the 90’s and their competitiveness in 2000’s is directly related to these kids. It’s also what led to west finally getting over the hump and into the stat title games in the last 6 years. At least 8 of wests starters including the big offensive stars are from this area. Interestingly enough laurel folk also believe about half this area should be going to Laurel despite it not being within city limits. And I think you're spot on about Vancleave. Whatever happens he will have to have had enough and leave on his own. Hathorne will never force him out. I’m hoping some of these young guys just got elected will start with some pressure on that but that remains to be seen. I can’t root for our kids to lose.
