I could be 100% wrong on this, but it seems like the Air Raid works 500 times better when there’s an effective and established running game. You certainly don’t have to run the football a majority of the time either and by doing that you avoid getting vanilla on offense.

The main concern for improvement would be how to get something positive out of a play when the pocket breaks down. The QB should be aware most of the time when this happens so it requires quick decision making. Chances are there’s probably a running lane somewhere to get some positive yardage instead of throwing an incompletion or taking a sack which could have been avoided.

It almost sounds like you’ll need to make a couple of hires on the offensive side unless the future OC also doubles as QB Coach as well. I don’t think they’ll completely abandon the air raid, but hopefully we can have more of a running threat with the QB position.

I saw you started a thread on the Genes Page vip football board about Kiffin vs. Arnett Social Media. Well Kiffin wins there in a landslide because Arnett hasn't posted anything on his Twitter account since 2020. I think he's a no frills kind of guy that can do without social media. He's old school to the core and for some reason I kind of like that.

Whatever the goal is for Ocean Springs, the path to get to the 7A title game seems like it will be easier for a coach to be in 7A South versus being in 7A North. I could be completely wrong here, but whoever comes out of 7A North won't go into the title game as an underdog.

Russell was the offensive coordinator at Oak Grove, so he was heavily involved with the offense. Heck if we didn't have him as our OC under Dodd Lee we don't beat Oxford for the 2013 state title. Russell is a winner point blank. Now in regards to his current situation, region 2-7A is going to be a monster, but since the omission of Murrah all he's got to do is be better than one team in that region to make the playoffs. Knowing who Russell is though, just making the playoffs is the bare minimum expectation with the goal of winning state titles. He definitely knows how to do it, but I wonder if he would have an easier path in the South to get there.

Petal & PRC could start a new rivalry game and call it the Pillow Fight Bowl LOL!

You hate to have to make a head coaching hire so quickly, but State didn’t really have an alternative and it’s honestly the best option for us now. I’m glad we will get to see what he does and how he will handle things.

I think so too because the players and staff need time to grieve and heal. With Zach at the helm they can do that and you'll be able to keep things in tact and also stop the threat of poaching from other programs.

The men's team has a game in Jackson tonight. Hopefully that game can unite Bulldog Nation and give State fans some reprieve for a few hours. I think Coach Jans will have them playing well.

Ocean Springs needs to go get one of those Alabama coaches. I don't have any idea who that would be, but they've definitely got some good coaches over there and Ocean Springs is a great landing spot.

Yes that definitely is a powerful statement. One that should make Bulldog fans want to keep the recruiting class intact and the coaching staff intact. I think State needs to get interim tag removed off of Arnett pretty soon. (Like before the bowl game and before an AD is hired).

Back in the old days when Coach Twig Branch was the quarterback for Coach Slick Morton’s T formation offense, Twig was the only one who was allowed to call the plays. The head coach wasn’t allowed to do so. Coach Branch had to know the offense and quite frankly that’s the only reason he got the starting job because he ran it for Coach Holden at Pascagoula and then at PRCC.

Our team should be in good hands coaching wise for the bowl game. We just won’t have Coach Leach on the sideline.

Coach Miller is the Run Game Coordinator and Coach Spurrier is the Pass Game Coordinator. Coach Leach was Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterback Coach.
