Well you have a point, but this is the high school football thread on MST. I don't think the intention of this thread was to find rivalry nicknames in sports other than football.

Well don't you like being stunned like that? But in reality though what Jans is doing is what the expectation should be. I know that's what it was like when Stansbury was the coach. I really like the energy that he is bringing to this men's basketball team. I think the excitement is there.

That's news to me. It must have been some PRC folks that came up with that because it's not a rivalry or even a backyard brawl LOL! The average score between the two schools is 37-14 in favor of Picayune so it's a tough line of thought to call it a rivalry. Statistically the series has been completely dominated by Picayune.

When you take the history of what Moss Point was and see where it is now it’s a sad state of affairs. I know when we played them it was always a tough ballgame and if anyone is a fan of Mississippi High School football in general it’s very sad to see this happen to them.

Vicksburg & Warren Central is called “The River City Rivalry”.

Goodness. How many more blows can Moss Point take? I remember when they were on top of the world beating the South Panolas and the like and there was no love lost when we played them too.

Why is Moss Point open? Didn’t their coach win some district championships?

So are we going to have any semblance of a team by the time we play Illinois? I really think this transfer portal has gone completely out of hand. It's like if a football player gets his feelings hurt, he can automatically bolt into the portal.

If that's the case we definitely need to be on the lookout for them. They could potentially make some noise.

So does Hancock lose a bunch from their playoff team this year?

Yes I remember those games too. Both were great Al Jones victories as well and that last one in the playoffs was some kind of cold. It's been shorts and t-shirt weather here LOL!

You’re talking about the Fall ‘03 game. That was a great Picayune team that year, it’s just that Oak Grove was the thorn in the flesh for us that year. Magee #7 was a great tailback for us back then.

Hold on now I see the big brother comment there LOL! I think that might be wishful thinking on your part. Picayune hasn’t played Ocean Springs a whole lot and this certainly isn’t anything to brag or boast about, but Picayune is 12-10 all time against Ocean Springs. I think it will be a tough game next year for sure and a welcomed challenge.

Your last sentence there is certainly a bold statement. I certainly hope we can make some noise, but I certainly don’t want to predict anything like that at this point. We’ve got a lot of work to do to even get in that position.

I’m not sure what you mean when you say, “We’d be proud to call Picayune part of the Coast if they’d have us.” We’ll be in 4-6A which is the coastal region, so do you want Picayune to adopt Ocean Springs or something like that? To be honest I’m looking forward to our matchup with Ocean Springs next season. It should be a great game for both teams.

I also think if West Harrison can improve upon from what they did this year then that will be a great contribution to region 4-6A as well. I’m not ready to call them playoff contenders just yet, but if they can make the necessary steps forward without regressing then they probably get themselves in for the first time in school history.

Yeah you’re absolutely correct. Florence shouldn’t have much trouble winning the 3-5A crown next year if they can improve upon what they did this year.

Well I hope you’re right about Hancock and Goula because I think they will be playoff contenders next year in region 4-6A. I also think George County can make some noise as well since they’ll be another year older. I guess I just want the best for Region 4-6A because iron sharpens iron.

Even with a worst case scenario as you are describing, it’ll still be a better region than what we will be in. I just hope Goula, Hancock & George County can make things interesting for us.
