maybe the mojo can be brought back this year. Im interested in this new rivalry. Yall have my attention for sure

I'm interested in the headaches that Russell Mitchell is going to give you in region 2-6A.  He may be in rebuilding mode right now, but watch out.  He can still give you a headache win or lose.

Its a tough situation he was thrown into. There's going to be 2 decent teams sitting at home when the playoffs roll around. It might not be the toughest region every year, but year in and year out its one of the toughest. Tupelo, Germantown, and even Grenada were all decent teams last year and missed the playoffs.

Well that's probably understood, but being down 35-21 to Oxford late in the 4th quarter in the 2013 5A State Championship game was a pretty tough situation as well and he excelled there pretty good.  In other words, never count out Russell Mitchell.

This may come off as real bold to some people, but here is my predictions:

1. Picayune

2. George County

3. Gautier

4. West Harrison

5. Pearl River Central

6. East Central

7. Vancleave

8. Long Beach

Before anyone just up and discredits the prediction, I’ll back up my reasoning for the obvious bold placement of West Harrison.

They were close in a lot of games in the early portion. Very competitive, but usually got outgunned. Had a 21-10 lead over George County going into halftime, but had an unfortunate injury that caused a downward spiral after half.

Going into 22 season, WH returns 7/11 Starters on D, and 7/11 starters on offense.

Even if my predicted placement is wrong, expect to see even more improvement from Coach Patrick’s Canes in 2022.

RoadDawg99 - I'm certainly not going to discredit your prediction, but if you want to get even bolder than that, then go ahead and move PRC up to 4th.   West Harrison, East Central, Vancleave & Long Beach should all be beatable opponents for the Blue Devils.  If PRC loses to any of those 4 opponents then obviously they will be on the outside looking in.

Not to rain on your parade or anything but WH was up 21-20 at halftime against GC. They successfully recovered 2-3 onside kicks in the first half and GC missed first XP and was stopped 1/2 yard short of their 2pt conversion on their second TD. GC was up 12-7. Down 14-12 then 21-12 in 2nd quarter. Backed WH up and made them punt. Trent Howell returned the punt for a TD and scored the 2pt conversion to pull within 21-20. GC ten proceeded to shut them out and put up 4 more TDs in the second half. Now, I understand your reasoning but to just say WH success this season is based on last season's 2nd quarter lead against GC is kind of out there especially when they closed out the season with a 3 TD loss to PRC.

Picayune is the run away favorite to win 4-5A. They should roll honestly. After that, I believe George County, Gautier and East Central will be your 3 playoff teams. Not sure of the order. If Gautier ever plans to contend, this is the year. When their QB leaves, it'll be downhill slide for them. East Central has a Head Coach the kids are going to play their hearts out for. David Hudson also returning to staff as the DC is huge for them. George County is going to be really tough offensively with their weapons. The question is, will the Offensive Line step up for them. That has been an Achilles heel for them the last few season I feel I have been told. West Harrison should be improved, but I do not see them cracking the playoffs. Vancleave will be tough, but they do not have the horses to keep up with everyone else's athletes and Dayan Bilbo is gone. PRC is in a similar boat as Vancleave although I think they will have a better offense. Long Beach has to show me something before I discuss them. Buzz around the program is better going into this year, but what happens when they hit some struggles?

If you made me seed them out it would be:

Picayune

George County

Gautier

East Central

PRC

Vancleave

West Harrison

Long Beach

The PRC-East Central game this year occurs at East Central on September 30th.  PRC will need to flush whatever happens to them against Picayune, the week before, out of their system very quickly.  Whatever outcome happens during this game will probably separate the top four from the bottom four in region 4-5A
