I couldn’t believe how bad the LSU defense looked, but credit to OM’s offense.  They were finally able to run the ball, and Rebmus is right.   Harris makes a huge difference.  It seemed to open up the offense.  The play calling was great.  
 

I think LSU made some really questionable decisions late though.  The KO from the 50.  Wth. After they got the ball back at 42-40.  They ran their normal offense and had a huge play to almost near midfield.  Then they went conservative with the next 3 play calls.  

Harris is really the only big receiver OM has. It was good to see the TE utilized. He has some big 3rd down conversions. I don’t think the decision was dumb on that kickoff but the execution was horrible.

For State, losing to Bama is like breathing.  It’s an uncontrollable regular bodily function.

One thing you can book.

State is going to throw a pick 6 in the first quarter against Bama. Like clockwork. 
Like Nicklaus used to birdie the first hole in every major tournament. He immediately put pressure on his opponent. 
State insists on digging its own hole against Bama. It is just what we do.

1. Ole miss won’t play an offense this good the rest of the season.

2. If the O-line and Dart play close to this the rest of the season could go into the Georgia game with the 1 loss.

3. This was the best called game offensively in the Kiffen era. In a game they needed it most.

There is the Kiffin signature win. Great win for OM who suddenly has realistic NY6 aspirations. I think winning the West is a long shot, but this is a very dangerous team.

 

Cannot say the same for State, who resumed its annual post as Bama’s whipping boy. I won’t lie, I didn’t even watch the second half. Same movie we’ve seen 16 years running. It is absolutely inexcusable to look this incompetent against the same team year after year.

 

And don’t even get me started on the fact that two weeks ago State could barely get a first down on an LSU defense that has gotten absolutely gashed by every other P5 team they’ve played.

I realize the passing of Mike Leach was an unplanned tragedy that threw a monkey wrench into everything. But just looking at the lay of the land right now, the gulf between Ole Miss and State feels larger than it’s been since…. 2008 perhaps?

 

I have been critical of Kiffin but there is no doubt that he has done some very good things for Ole Miss. 5 games in with Arnett, I unfortunately just don’t see that same program changing coaching ability. He’s young and maybe he improves. But State could have a serious problem on their hands if they’re not REALLY careful. This era of college football is not the time to be a program on the decline.

 

Things can change in the next 7 weeks, but the Egg Bowl right now feels like a 63-28 type of win for OM.

We were on the road last night but listened to the last part of the LSU-OM game on the radio. What a great game and a great win for Ole Miss. 

 

Before the season, I said State was a 6-6 team with a possibility of 8-4 if everything went right. 6-6 is still possible. There are growing pains with a new HC and a mostly new staff. Playing Western Michigan and then having an open date is the best RX this team could ask for. Last night 3 turnovers were just killers. Not that we win the game but when you take care of the ball, you at least give yourself a chance to win. 

3-3 at the break with Auburn, A&M, Arky, KY, USM and OM left. Hard to see 3 wins there at this juncture.

Major letdown potential, I do think OM is clearly the better team though.

Arkansas is simply not very good this year. Ole Miss will certainly be vulnerable to a let down but I think they will win this game. 
This season is so weird. State and Ole Miss playing both LSU and Bama before October 1st just seems strange.

State just made a bad choice on the coaching hire.  It is what it is.   They don’t look prepared or disciplined.  
 

I still say they don’t win an SEC game, unless it’s Arkansas.

Bad as MSU is they will beat usm by 42

They made the only choice they could make in the circumstances of a coach passing with no AD on board.

 

But to me that justifies moving in a different direction quickly if needed. And I’m starting to think it’s going to be needed.

 

This team is not going to be favored in a single conference game all year.

I agree.  It’s a shame that this season wasted so much experience, especially on offense.

We made the only choice that was realistic. That said a good coach should adjust themselves to the available talent they have. To date we have not done that.

This has been an odd and mostly unpredictable season so far. 

 

2 weeks ago, almost everyone was ready to hand LSU the SEC West and though Bama was in for a long year (by Bama terms). Today, I figure most would say Bama is the favorited to win the West. 

 

I'm really not sold ANYONE is the SEC is a NC contender right now and both divisions are more open this year than most. I doubt Georgia doesn't win the East... BUT, Kentucky and Missouri are still undefeated. KY travels to Athens next week while Mizzou hosts LSU. IF both teams win, the East gets real interesting. With that said, I think Mizzou is fools gold with that record and will lose easily next weekend. Kentucky, on the other hand, I could see them picking up a big upset next Saturday. 

 

Bama and A&M are 2-0 on the West side and play each other next weekend. The winner is obviously in the driver's seat. 

LSU still controls their own destiny since they still have A&M and Bama both left with only 1 SEC loss. 

 

Ole Miss "looks" to have an OK shot at the West but it's pretty doubtful IMO. Bama does have a loss, but it's not an SEC loss. With the tie-breaker, Bama has to lose 2 SEC games this season AND Ole Miss has to run the SEC table. It wouldn't shock if Bama slips up twice in SEC play this year, I'd be shocked if Ole Miss pulled off 7-1. Bama losing 3 is SEC play this year is pretty doubtful. 

 

Real chaos would be A&M and LSU beating Bama while finishing 6-2 while LSU has the second loss to A&M. Bama also finishes 6-2 with those two as the only SEC losses. 

Ole Miss runs the table other than Georgia to finish 6-2 in SEC play. A&M's second SEC loss would be Tennessee.

I don’t think anyone ends up undefeated in SEC play, including Georgia.  
 

It will be a very interesting season.

I think we are likely headed for Bama vs. Georgia. Those teams are flawed but have more margin for error than the teams chasing them.

A&M is playing well other than the disaster at MIA. This weekend’s game with Bama will tell us if they are for real. That is the makings of a close low scoring game.
