West Jones coach i am thinking that's who he is talking about. A bunch of coaches currently coached under Boyles and Hall throughout the state. It's the coaching tree.

How this guy has accrued this much power is beyond me and why the people of Waynesboro and the rest of the county are allowing him this function is even more beyond me.

Bert simplified it way better than I could.

I will go one further there aren’t enough of us that didn’t have to leave there to have anything in life.  The ones that stayed have had to stay gone from their families to be concerned about looking into anything beyond that.  My world before finishing high school was to stay right there my whole life as most children do. My daddy  almost forced me to go to college and he was right. I never lived there again. There was nothing but a dead end on what I could be if I had stayed . They claim they are there to help the kids but they are full of it . They only  focus on what they can do for themselves and their family. Let the rest shoot it out in the streets. That time of your life you need something that is yours. Only yours. Pride in  producing and owning  your own things gives you a direction and it inspires you to half way act right. Nobody even asks these kids what they like and what they may be good at . Or their parents for that matter. Every parent wants it better for their children. I’m not talking about making you keep your cleats tied either  before someone thinks but “Coach” . That’s just a shield that they run and hide behind when someone starts pointing their finger at them.  Not to mention the latest lie they been caught in with the school rating.

Yes that’s what I was referring to , I’m glad I’m not like John the Baptist crying in the wilderness here because you see what I see and probably have for awhile.

 

I think if I would have continued on up above it would have been clearer but it was going to take a lot more time.  With that said this is going to be long so if you don’t like to read maybe scroll on by because it’s necessary to get the situation sorted out.

 

A little of my history with it. 
Around 2013 or 14 I was leaning on the fence in our stadium joking with Coach Mangum as he was standing between Ronald  Ollie and that big loudmouth receiver from  Laurel (Cooley  I think) as they were stretching during warmups. They had already started towards each other before after exchanging words . Out of the corner of my eye I saw Bubba Hathorne setting up trash cans for the drinking cups. I remembered him from back in the days of Bobby Hall . Marcus fired him on day one. Keep that in the back of your mind. 
 Anyway I pointed at him not even trying to hide it because I never liked his sweaty palmed arse from his beat four days. I said you know if he stays around this team he will destroy it. Everything he touches goes to crap. He laughed and said he’s not coaching. He needed a job. 
Obviously he had come crawling back after his latest flame out.  I seen Coach  Mangum playing golf in biloxi a couple of years ago and shook my finger at him and said I told you what would happen if he stayed around. Todd Mangum is not going to say a bad word about anyone but he gave me that look that needed no words. I’m not blessed in that regard I can’t help but call a turd a turd.

Coach Mangum won a title soon after and I kind of forgot about it as I didn’t really see ol red face around after that. Coach Mangum could see what was happening inside the courthouse and left.  Hathorne had obviously been living with his lips on someone’s butt because next thing I know someone told me that he was responsible for hiring Shetland Gandy. WHAT!!!!! was my reaction. 

He’s now the principal and man is he making strides in getting the school back in line and saving them from being taken over by the state. I knew in the back of my mind that something was off with that statement. Honestly I kind of lost interest because I knew Shetland wasn’t going to do much as a coach up against what he was going to have beat. This was evident sitting in West Jones stadium and watching him coach his first game .

 During this time another transplant from jones county  living out in beat four, neighbors with Hathorne coincidentally, gets foisted on Wayne County  as superintendent by the school board. Another coincidence I’m sure he had hired Hathorne at NEJ to coach football when Finch ( not his name but he will cry to the mods) was principal at there. He had very unsuccessfully ran for Supt of education in Jones county before counties started appointing them and was sacked by the guy he was running against that actually won.
Remember in the post above about BJ test scores, missing money and what that entailed. All that was happening as ol red face was rising to his current position . Shetland left when he saw the job was too much for him and ol red face started a new search for a coach. The Supt said that he was handing the whole decision to Hathorne. 
Covid hit and derailed that process. Kevin Gandy was appointed as an item because he he was the most experienced left on staff. He did a dam good job that abortion of a season. He was a better coach than Shetland and deserved better than the weasel move he got from ol red face.  Bubba told him he would get a fair shot at the job but in the meantime he told his buddy Supt that it was going to be Todd Lowery. Lowery and ol red face have to have a past together somehow but I haven’t dug into it.  Finch told someone on the school board so they could present Lowerys name at the next meeting and approve it. Someone from the school board let it out and my brother called and told me . I knew immediately what was going on and went with my cousin, and my brother to his school board rep . I ranted for an hour with this dude that Hathorne was going to put someone in that ran the same system he ran as a coach and it was unacceptable to let him be the judge and jury on the decision. It was going around about who it was and it hot quashed. Search ongoing but every time someone questioned ol red face about the new coach he reply nastily we are not going to talk about the coaching search.  

 

They keep it quite this time. Next thing I know he hired  wing low t Hankins Bubba got his offense. He was going to show all of us. He hated Coach Boyles and anyone that watched him make the walk of shame after Marcus made him hand his keys to Todd Breland. He had already told several people he was going to be the coach as Bobby Hall was leaving  but thank goodness Bobby had already gotten to someone, and I think he had planned it all along, that the coach was already on staff . That it was Coach Boyles and he could get the the job done. Now you see why he said lately that nobody that ever played or coached with Marcus would be hired there. That rules out Mangum, Marcus, Breland, Earnest , Collums or anyone else on the list.

oldwareagle can add or correct me on any of that. Or wareaglefan he has been in and out of that building a lot more than our head coaches.

That gets up to date on the coaching end. I will tie it in to the BOE and the test scores when I can type more. It needs to be said

You’re correct I have been in and out of the building for many years. I’ve saw and heard a lot that I’ll take to the grave with me. I consider every coach I’ve been associated with up there a friend and still talk to most of them pretty regularly. Do I agree with everything they have all done absolutely not but how many of us haven’t second guessed a coach. This includes Coach Hankins he’s as fine of man as you could ask for. Marcus, Todd, Ryan Earnest, Toby, Bud Blackledge and Coach Hankins are all dear friends. My Grandson plays for Todd Breland, Will Mason and Tim Blackwell now. So I would never betray any of them on a internet sports talk page sorry to disappoint.

I recently saw WC play 9th grade and JV, and there is still plenty of talent over there.  Haven't seen the varsity play since coach Magnum left so I cant comment on them but there appears to be talent in the young groups.

thats what we’ve been saying. they will look good in jr high and freshman team and then they disappear after that. 
He has run off so many until he has taken all the kids with any size and made them play offensive linemen. That’s an old feature of Hathorne football.. 

the kids they have on defense looks like a 1A defensive line and linebackers.  They are all young freshman and sophomores they will break this season and run them off and the cycle will continue if he stays.

 

Another thing I meant to put in that coaching succession was when Shetland was hired. I get that it was time to keep things equal at that point. That hire should have came from Boyles coaching tree . It should have been Ryan Earnest. He wanted the job.

Whoever that was on that board that had made sure that line was continued on was gone. I don’t know who it was but that’s the point that the whole situation around our coaches became toxic.

Basketball coach who i think became superintendent after leaving Quitman. He was at Raleigh before Quitman. Originally from Waynesboro.

Pretty good coach too. McDougal went from Meridian to Bama to the pros. The Coleman boys from Raleigh went to Valley and they darn near beat Duke.

He was a good coach he didn’t have a lot of basketball talent at Beat Four but you played hard and fundamentally sound.

I can't believe I had forgot about Coach Stanley Brewer.  Sometimes it seems like the turds are all we remember and the good people like him get memory holed.

He taught us American History in that old rinky dink run down back room. He was a good coach and probably a better teacher.  A very smart man and took the time to get to know every one of us. Makes me feel bad because I had forgotten him.
