I have not personally had to deal with it, but I have plenty of friends and know others that have. There is a LOT of sweeping under the rug by the schools in the district to keep things under wraps to protect the crystal clear image the district portrays. The city itself is honestly the same way. Bullying in Ocean Springs? Granted I haven't heard of this before because I'm not familiar with the area at all, but where do you think it stems from? There is a certain arrogance in Ocean Springs that many, many residents have. There have been many incidents I have heard of dealing with bullying that never results in real consequences. It typically just ends with a meeting and it is over to the school. However, many times it continues to happen and the school pretends it is not going on anymore. There have been a few suicides sadly of students in the district over the past few years linked directly to bullying. Full disclosure, I do not really enjoy living here, and did not want to move here. However, "Happy Wife, Happy Life". LOL. It is a beautiful city, and I get why people would want to move here. However, to me, it is a fake aura that I am not overly enthused about.

I've ben looking at moving just north of there and it looks to be over flowing. I was in OS the other day and thought they are going to have to expand the school system because people were everywhere , They just redrew those districts due to the new housing developments. It would either be St Martin or Vancleave.

Rebel Bert
What percentage of schools are turning in smaller numbers? I really do think we have the following problems: 1 Home Schooling explosion 2 Drop outs are increasing 3 Transfering to MAIS or out of state 4 Church schools explosion The reasons: 1 Politics 2 Woke ideals or life styles
Chunky6617
I heard that Heidelberg turned in 3A numbers and that Raleigh turned in 2A numbers.

Rioley , byhalia and rosa fort all had lower figures than mooreville last time and all 3 have lower figures currently. Is it possible that all 4 schools mentioned here could drop to 3A? If so, that would a shift of large proportion.

You may one day see Taylorsville split two ways into mize and Raleigh, but county consolidation is not happening anytime soon.

So far there has been no discussion of it at a board meeting in 25 years. In the late 90s they were going to build the Raleigh School north of town. All had it planned out and ready to bully the land just south of Shongelo on 35. The president of the board Ates wouldn't have it that way. It would have ideal to build a new school along 28 between Mize and Taylorsville. So politics would not go for it. The legislature will have to force it or Taylorsville will have to be way down below a 100 kids in high school.

You may one day see Taylorsville split two ways into mize and Raleigh, but county consolidation is not happening anytime soon. That's a weird drawn line starting on Simpson County line moving east across 35 across 37 rolling north and letting Mineral Springs go to Taylorsville then crossing the Leaf River a weird big zag in there and part of New Home goes to Raleigh along 531. Taylorsville and Mize are basically split appx 20 to 25 % each and Raleigh gets 50 to 60% of the county but can't extend the city limits north or east west due to National Forest Boundary. I don't know about any schools in the south half other than Mize and Taylorsville.

Is Smith County projected to grow by leaps and bounds over the next 15-20 years? What economic engine is projected to feed Mize, Taylorsville, and Raleigh over the next 15-20 years? Last time I checked, Smith County was pretty rural. If you can get something in Smith County that allows all 3 of those communities to grow and prosper, you can grow those schools individually. But what do you do if all 3 communities shrink within the next 15-20 years? I realize pride is a big thing, but if you truly do care about the future of Smith County then building a brand new school that the whole county can use and enjoy doesn’t sound too bad. Put it in a neutral location. I’m sure there’s options out there for that. Ask yourself this question. If Smith County doesn’t grow, what can be done to make things better? They will simply consolidate into one school at Raleigh. They never do the right thing in Smith County. They don't want industry in Raleigh. That's why everyone works out of county. Mize and Raleigh ain’t shrinking buddy. Heck mize is trying to keep people out because everybody wants to send their kids to school here. The only school that’s declining is Tville, which ironically is where the local industry has always been. People have talked about consolidating smith county schools for over 30 years. They even built Raleigh high school in a central location just for that reason in the mid 90’s. Unless the schools start struggling academically, and getting smaller in size, it’s not gonna happen. And while Tville has been struggling, Mize and Raleigh are not. Mize is considered one of the best schools in the entire state of Mississippi. You may eventually see Raleigh and Mize both absorb Tville, but you aren’t gonna see one central school anytime soon.
Rebel Bert
Any more rumors especially the south. Right now I am looking at 16 3A schools in the south. I am adding Clarkdale, Sacred Heart(multiplier), and Lake. It's possible Mendenhall and Richland may drop to 3A. That's 13 schools sitting close to Region 5 and 6. 1 is probably going replace St Andrew's moving up because of the multiplier. Quite possibly Seminary and JDC move to Region 8. Quite possibly 1 moves north or 1 moves from north to South aka Noxubee, Louisville, or Yazoo County.
