Bullying in Ocean Springs?  Granted I haven't heard of this before because I'm not familiar with the area at all, but where do you think it stems from?

There is a certain arrogance in Ocean Springs that many, many residents have. There have been many incidents I have heard of dealing with bullying that never results in real consequences. It typically just ends with a meeting and it is over to the school. However, many times it continues to happen and the school pretends it is not going on anymore. There have been a few suicides sadly of students in the district over the past few years linked directly to bullying. 

 

Full disclosure, I do not really enjoy living here, and did not want to move here. However, "Happy Wife, Happy Life". LOL. It is a beautiful city, and I get why people would want to move here. However, to me, it is a fake aura that I am not overly enthused about.

I was in OS  the other day and thought they are going to have to expand the school system because people were everywhere ,

They just redrew those districts due to the new housing developments. It would either be St Martin or Vancleave.

What percentage of schools are turning in smaller numbers? I really do think we have the following problems:

1 Home Schooling explosion

2 Drop outs are increasing 

3 Transfering to MAIS or out of state

4 Church schools explosion 

The reasons:

1 Politics 

2 Woke ideals or life styles

I heard that Heidelberg turned in 3A numbers and that Raleigh turned in 2A numbers.

I hear you man. Rioley , byhalia and rosa fort all had lower figures than mooreville last time and all 3 have lower figures currently. Is it possible that all 4 schools mentioned here could drop to 3A? If so, that would a shift of large proportion.

Now I am hearing Raleigh is still 3A. Tville supposedly had higher numbers than expected and will be a bigger 1A

Just consolidate Mize, Raleigh, and Taylorsville into Smith County and make the 1A, 2A, and 3A irrelevant.  Makes sense to me.  Heck if Warren County could do it in the 1960s, surely Smith County can do it in 2026.

It’s a valid point.  Warren County did it in 1965 and back then it was 1st thru 12th grade public academies and they did it way back then.

Absolutely not. Not happening. You may one day see Taylorsville split two ways into mize and Raleigh, but county consolidation is not happening anytime soon.

School board will have to be forced into it. So far there has been no discussion of it at a board meeting in 25 years. In the late 90s they were going to build the Raleigh School north of town. All had it planned out and ready to bully the land just south of Shongelo on 35. The president of the board Ates wouldn't have it that way. It would have ideal to build a new school along 28 between Mize and Taylorsville. So politics would not go for it. The legislature will have to force it or Taylorsville will have to be way down below a 100 kids in high school.

That's a weird drawn line starting on Simpson County line moving east across 35 across 37 rolling north and letting  Mineral  Springs go to Taylorsville  then crossing the Leaf River a weird big zag in there and part of New Home goes to Raleigh  along 531. Taylorsville  and Mize are basically split appx 20 to 25 % each and Raleigh gets 50 to 60% of the county but can't extend the city limits north or east west due to National Forest Boundary.

Smith County did it in 68. You had the Polkville Panthers, White Oak Eagles who played football in the 40s, Burns, Sardis, Pleasant Hill Cagers, Sylvarena, and Pineville. I don't know about any schools in the south half other than Mize and Taylorsville.

Heidelberg had to turn in some juniors who failed or at least 100 moved in to the district. Maybe that is why Quitman  is continuing to drop in numbers. Wayne County maybe.
