I still think had Wayne county remained 5A in 03, instead of dropping to 4A, they would have met and possibly beat that 03 south panola team.

It’s like Picayune and Wayne County swapped because we were 4A in 2002.

West Point was 4A in 02 went to 5A as well.  
 

At the time I remember there was 1 student difference between Wayne at 4A and I think it was West Point in 5A.

03 South Panola team had several future NFL players they destroyed every team they played Wayne Co would not have beaten that team.

Wayne county beat them in 02, and returned 17 starters in 03.  They were preseason number 1 in the state in all publications and nationally ranked number 16, and remained that way till week 9.  And if not for injuries in college they also had 4 guys who would have likely been in the NFL (one who eventually did).  4 star RB Mike McLaughlin who injuries at auburn caused early end to career.  4 star lb Steve gandy who also had multiple injuries that ended his career.  Eventual 5 star and number 2 recruit in country Jarrell powe who went to the nfl after ole miss. And a d end that was 3 or 4 star that due to grades went juco first and I think he flunked out there. Oh, also Drexker johnson who held the state record in td passes at one point that had to go Juco and then bad life choices sent him to jail.

I think yall may need to start another thread. These kids weren’t even born until 2008.

Yeah the 2002 GC team is one that should’ve won it all. Lost to d’Iberville with 19 seconds left at South state. Never will forget dominating that game and recovering a fumble in d’Iberville territory that would’ve sealed it only for the refs to rule an incomplete pass. Beat a good Picayune team twice that year and that’s the last time GC has beaten the Tide. Better days are ahead though. GC lost to a great Wayne Co team in 2003 13-10 after they dropped to 4A or GC would’ve potentially won it all in 4A that year.

Officials erased 2 or 3 WJ td’s on consecutive plays vs George in 02 or they beat y’all.  And if Wayne was in 5A in 03 the west jones waltzes through 4A. The state championship that year was WJ at wc for south state.

That’s obviously your opinion. GC had Wayne Co beat in third round and would’ve had  showdown with WJ at South State. Lost 13-10 when Drexxler Johnson scrambled in from 15 yards and GC couldn’t quite get into FG range to tie it.
