I don’t understand how a 2A team can look like this Heidelberg team. I was on the field after the game we played with them and shook hands with their whole team. They look like a 6A or 7A team. We have a good team ourselves. Personally, I think we are the 2nd best team in 2A south. And they beat us 50-0 and it could have been worse. It was 30-0 at halftime. I don’t understand how a 2A team can be that good. It’s the best I have ever seen. It almost makes you wonder if it’s all legit. They are on par with teams like Columbia and Louisville in 4A. If they played Noxubee county again right now they would destroy them. They wouldn’t beat West Point in 5A, but they could win 3A or 4A. They would win 3A south without breaking a sweat.

I said in another thread they have always had the talent and athletes to be dominant. But they have had crap coaching for a very long time. So bad in fact I don’t think anyone ever understood how bad.  Now if you look at them under Carter, and then go look at his past head coaching jobs he hasn’t exactly been a great coach.  This job fell in his lap after he hadn’t been a coach for a few years. I don’t know if there is any truth to it but I was told they contacted him for it because no one had applied for the job.

Well I know that’s not accurate because I know some people that applied for that job. And yes they have always had talent. Right now, they have it at every position. They do graduate 17 seniors after this year, but their best 2 or 3 players overall are juniors.

And next year will be the last to go to State in a while; not much talent behind the junior class.

He left Shannon to take the Heidelberg job so he didn't sit out for a few years. What he has done so far at Heidelberg is exceptional, regardless of how you feel about his previous coaching stints.  He did have two winning seasons at Kemper before he left for Shannon.  Kemper was everyone's homecoming before he got there.

I have spoken to Carter a couple times. Dude is a great guy. And his team this season was one of the classiest I have ever seen.

Sometimes its the way you grow them. Then its how you train them 365 days a year, workouts, weight lifting etc. You can look at I-59 from the Pearl River to Meridian up 45 to West Point it seems that way. Bigger, stronger, athletic and more like that. Once you get to 15 and 35 not necessarily less talent but less of the size and less population. Most of your state titles are won from schools most definitely east of 55.
