Spring Games

Just watched Tville’s two games. Wasn’t too bad. West Marion won 6-0, Raymond won 8-7. I agree Tville looked good defensively. Pretty quick to the ball. Offensively they looked a little sluggish, which is expected with alot of new faces out there. Couple bad snaps hampered some drives. Offensive line had good size, Trent Clark has really good size at WR.

They should win 2nd game but run out gas a little.  First game offense drop a good pass too. Defense play good

So what’s been the results of the games at USM today?

Heidelberg beat Hattiesburg last night 22-14. Heidelberg could be historically good this season in 2A, while Hattiesburg is going to be rebuilding I believe

I thought that Hattiesburg had a bunch of transfers. One of their fans on Facebook bragging about their transfer portal

I’m really impressed with Agee today. Kids played hard and the JV didn’t look awful like most people have said. Must be putting in work. The o-line that was out there is young the center and LT are 8th grade going to 9th.

Hattiesburg does a lot of recruiting but their transfer talk was probably exaggerated. They won’t be near as good this year as they were last year. Heidelberg has the potential to be one of the best 2A teams ever

I didn’t watch the JV. Tville will need the JV to be improved because their lack of depth is what did them in last season

I’m really disappointed my Jaguars opted out of playing spring game. Coaches must be thinking we’re going to be down next year with all of the seniors we lost. I saw where Ridgeland played Clinton and Germantown played Brandon. I would have liked to see Coach Collums schedule a game like that to get these young guys some experience.

Heidelberg came to play like a championship team in 2A. I see a lot of trash talking on FB but the oilers are already a polished team. Hattiesburg it was all about getting the QB Marshall a lot of reps and Coach Lacey did that. Keys only played 1 qtr if that he did get injured to the face. The run game was great Leverette and Scott hard to stop both had tds for HHS. Coach Lacey was mixing in freshman's, sophomores and others in the varsity game. This game were about getting younger players the reps and experience they need to develop for the regular season. Oline did good overall 2 or 3 busted plays . Dline did good overall 2 busted plays one for 60 yards td QB run. If HHS would have won nothing would be said at all but this a 2A school.

Keys played more than 1 quarter. He missed about 2 series after his helmet came off but he was back out there to close out the half.

I havnt seen many teams that lost 16+ starters, almost all of which were 2+ year starters, and the following season be as good as the prior couple years.  And I expect the same from Hattiesburg.  Plus they lost the coach.  They will have some growing pains this season.

Heidelberg has about 200 kids in HS; Hattiesburg about 1000... total for both.

There should not have have been any doubt about the outcome regardless of whether freshmen or sophomores were playing.

If putting lipstick on a pig makes it pretty then congratulations.

Correct. And Heidelberg was the exact opposite. They returned most of the entire team from their championship team last season.

I can think of 1 year they lost over 12 and still made it to state the next year.  But I don’t follow them close enough to know exactly for sure.  Regardless, Hattiesburg does not have the pedigree of West Point.
