Matt
Two great games, on paper anyway. Neither team's offenses looked great in two quarters of a jamboree but I think OS will move the ball on the ground behind their big O line. I could be wrong but I don't see MC moving the ball on OS defense. They're best chance would be in the air but with young QBs I don't see them doing that unless its jump balls. MC TE is a grown man though! We will see who is ready for big boy football early in the season. MC had two JV games going at once and looked like they still had 100 players on the sidelines! This heat may bring numbers into play. I could be wrong but I'd give the edge to OS based on returning mostly two and three year starters on a defense that's only lost to OG and Brandon over the last two years. Picayune and Brandon should be a good one! Picayune hasn't faced a passing game like Brandon but Brandon definitely will be tested by Picayune running game. Last season I would've gone with the Tide. This year I'm not so sure. I'd pick Brandon just because they seem to win these games against everyone except for a north 7A powerhouse team or occasionally OG. However as a Coast guy, Go Tide! If the Picayune Purple Tide is as good as the fans think they are, I will admit I am wrong, but, I think Brandon rolls easily How do you like your crow cooked? Do you want it fried, sautéed, grilled, baked, or just plain raw? We can certainly accommodate whichever cooked or uncooked method you prefer. Well said. I’ve been delaying tossing out my game picks for the Ocean Springs game. As one of their biggest fans, this past two years has been special. Scoring at will and beating our rivals with ease, along with having a legitimate chance at a state championship makes losing some classic games in the playoffs bearable and even memorable. I wouldn’t trade that for anything. I’ve tried not to be obnoxious or rub it in. Now, this year is expected to be totally unpredictable. The offense becomes more predictable with the running game featured, and the QB position in flux. Having Whiteside at some point will make division play more interesting, but this run of games to start the season will be tough. Defense has several D1 recruits, so hoping to grind out a few wins as the offense comes around. That said, Madison Central, who kind of mirrors our resume, should be favored at home, and I’ll pick them in a slobberknocker, 17-14. I hope I’m wrong, and we win by fawty, but until I see it, I’m gonna be realistic. Safe travels to my Hound fans, and I still hope to see game time moved back.

"Whitehead" but I don't see him playing QB this season. QB looked pretty good in jamboree and I think he adds a real threat to the outside coming in motion along with Smith. Hoping he gets on the field sooner rather than later for sure!

I am told Whitehead could potentially miss the season if there is any setback, but as it stands, he is expected back at some point by region play. I think at that point, he has to play receiver or running back because I think Berglind will find his footing. Offense is still finding its identity in the post Bray Hubbard era. Their defense is what will keep them in games early on. I think going 3-2 or 2-3 in pre-region is most likely to happen with 4-1 as best case scenario.

Of course, I meant Whitehead. My bad. I’ve been watching him all through Jr hi, along with the Watson kid and that whole group of what are now sophomores. Really good talent, including the new, big Olineman who should start. It’s so hard to figure out each class as they come up, but the 9th and 7th grade teams went undefeated and look talented, while the 8th graders didn’t win a game. Weird.

He has recovered much quicker than expected, and is posting some workout videos showing him back up to speed. That said, it’s a pretty significant injury along the lines of the injury Tua suffered in college to his hip. I would hope that they bring him along slowly. Using him as an athlete out of the backfield and out wide instead of under center would be best until he shows that he can throw. Highly recruited kid, so I’m looking forward to him getting back soon, at least in time for district and that one particular game in Gulfport in November.

Gautier was definitely tough with Kaden Irving, but Picayune made adjustments defensively in the playoffs and was able to neutralize the passing attack. I feel like our defensive front can wreak some havoc by putting pressure on Brandon’s passing attack and when they use that to open up the run game, Picayune can make necessary stops there as well. I also think in a game like this, the best defense is a good offense. Picayune needs to eat clock, wear Brandon down defensively and score. Picayune by 10. ogwarriorbandman
If Gulfport is expected to be the best 7A on the coast then I have seen enough from our Jamboree that it’s back to normal in that region.

My guys hung a 58 piece on em last year two weeks before scoring 42 in knocking your guys out of the playoffs. Now, before playing another game, we’re ranked way behind both of y’all. I guess that’s why we play the games on the field, but I’m starting to sense a lack of respect. We’ll probably lose a couple early on, but I think we’ll make some noise before it’s all said and done. Gotta earn that respect all over again. Things are not back to normal.

Dubaction
I don’t blame you for holding on to the best year you’ve had in forever but can you sustain it without Mr. Football and the head ball coach you let go across the street. That’s the real test. Your best year ever is routine business for some of us.

Let me say this: Ocean Spring's coach who went to Gulfport got outcoached last year against Brandon. Here's the reason why I say this!! How do you not get the most dynamic player in 6A out of the pocket to run? Option or something? Starkville's Trey Petty had more yards than Hubbard.....Ocean Springs gave up a 21-7 lead, when they deliberately did not double cover Lester Miller "corner getting burnt 1-on-1" "Ok I'm done with that spat"..lol I cannot argue with the fact that Pennock got outcoached in some areas in that playoff game, while coaching very well in others. The reasons you name, plus not somehow figuring out how to plot a way to cover onside kicks. It was a problem the entire time he was at O.S. Now, Brandon’s defensive scheme did have an influence on keeping Hubbard from getting outside, but he still had huge chunks in the running game, especially in the first half. That last second bomb coulda, shoulda been shut down with some kind of deep zone that got at least two defenders on the ball, but again, credit the QB’s pass and the contested catch on the sideline. No second guessing from O.S. fans, other than realizing that the things that I’ve named along with some of the referees calls are all part of the game that have to be overcome to win the game. Moving on.
