They don’t know what is coming. With only five days to get ready ? Yall have a lot of guys with big yards coming back. I hate to pat myself on the back but maybe I will. This game was over before halftime with as much the Brandon defense stayed on the field. Brandon scores beyond the first one were the result of prevent defense and Picayune letting them burn clock. Not as close as score indicates. Picayune is the best team in the state at managing clock.

The coast was represented quite well. We basically lost the game on the last play after a roughing the kicker call on a missed field goal on the previous attempt. I’ve waited to comment until having a chance to watch a replay of the call, and it appears to be a legitimate roughing call. There are other calls that appeared to be questionable and at critical junctures, but it’s opening day for referees too, so no crying about that. We’ll talk about your teams great effort later, but I think that Ocean Springs can’t be counted out of having a good season just yet. Tough schedule, including Picayune, so probably no better than 3-2 headed to district play. Lots of good showings on the Coast, including Biloxi, Harrison Central, and Gulfport with wins. MC showed a lot of resilience overcoming what must have been six turnovers, including the fumble that led to OS taking the lead late, and the interception that should have been the game winner just after that. Second QB threw better but the starter ran well. Really good WR that should have been doubled. Obviously, a great kicker. Can’t see them over Brandon next week or the big boys in their district, but they should improve with experience. Also, I’ve got to ask about the weird situation with the fan base in Madison. Beautiful, huge stadium with a loud student section and great band, but the entire reserved middle of the stadium was practically empty, with thousands of people under tents outside the stadium past the end zone. I’m told that they pay hundreds of dollars for the tents and setups, yet never enter the stadium to cheer on their kids. I’m trying not to sound petty, but I think that sucks for the coaches and players, including the band at halftime. Any thoughts from Jaguar fans? Tell me I’m wrong. Sounds like they would rather socialize outside than go to the game. Unusual for high school game. But i see it at college games all the time. They have season tickets but rather sit under tents and not enter stadium. The people who have the suites at college games are the ones who dont care about the games. Especially ladies who gather with other ladies to talk about work and vacations while watching their kids make a mess on the floor. All the while their husbands instead of watching the game are also trying to make business deals for their company. Last thing i wanna do at a game is discuss business. Its better than not coming to the campus at all, and the athletic department pulls in big bucks. I’m sure there aren’t many locations that can sell so many packages for the tents in this state. The fans that were there seemed enthusiastic, the student section was packed and loud, and their band is almost as good as Ocean Springs, where a whole bunch of the fans are there for the halftime show. Different strokes, I guess. Or maybe I’m just sour about losing the game.

I seriously doubt Brandon took them lightly in a game that the entire state knew was going to be one of the biggest games of the year. Picayune is just really good. I’m trying not to sound petty, but I think that sucks for the coaches and players, including the band at halftime. Any thoughts from Jaguar fans? Tell me I’m wrong. There’s 2,400 passes for the endzone. And the stadium seats about 8,500. The stands on the home side are larger than everywhere in the state to my knowledge other than Meridian so it’s deceptive. If we have 7,000 at a game it looks like a ghost town in the stands. The visitors side is about average for 7A I’d say. With tailgaters, workers, teams, coaches, alumni, college coaches, and guests, there’s usually around 3,000 people standing around that field in addition to the stands. There’s a lot more people there than you’d think. Lots of parents stay in the endzone because they can keep an eye on their younger kids in the kids zone as well as enjoy their own food they can bring in. Some are sponsor tents, teacher tents, class reunion tents, administrator tents, etc. Many stay in there and feed the team and coaches after the game as well. There’s a large number of State and Ole Miss fans there who also tailgate on Saturdays as well and it’s just what they enjoy to do and what they’re used to. They almost all stand there and watch the game on the videoboard which I’ll admit I’m guilty of at State games. And if we didn’t have that tailgating, we might have 1,000 or so less fans per game. While I personally wish they were in the stands too, I’m glad they are supporting the team while enjoying themselves. It is what it is.
