Only four weeks until Enterprise beats Mize again!

I’m not worried about Enterprise. I’m more worried about Heidelberg than I am Enterprise… you know Heidelberg, that team that beat y’all 22-0 in one single quarter back in the spring.

...what game are you looking forward to the most? It doesn’t have to be a game your team plays, it can just be one in general. I pondered this for a little bit a few games stuck out in my head. Picayune vs Brandon is one them. Oak Grove vs Hoover(AL) is another. So what game or games are you looking forward to?

Playoffs. I will be at every game, but don't really care about Brandon because it doesn't count. (other than I hope we learn from it and don't get serious injuries) None of the games in our new alignment are that interesting to me.

If we can get through non-region play without significant injuries that will be a huge key to the playoff picture because that's really when our season starts.  I just wish our district schedule wasn't so bland.  I just hope we can stay focused for those 5 weeks and not get caught in a lull.

My exact thoughts. I am a Gulfport alum but have lived in Ocean Springs since moving back home from Louisiana in 2008. My daughter currently attends OS and is friends with several players. The bad blood is there and this is game they have had circled on their schedule for a long time.

In all of the interviews I’ve seen with the O.S. coach and players, they’ve downplayed the ex coach angle and said the right thing. In fact, the quote I really liked from the new coach was “the only people in that dressing room now want to be in that dressing room.” I’m probably the most immature person on here concerning this, and I’ve documented some of the moves, but I understand both sides. One side lost their coach to their rival, and the other side gave up 58 points to their rival. Which one will use that as motivation?

Might as well fry some eggs too.  Just don't forget to salt and pepper them.  I guess that's Oak Grove cuisine at it's best.

I feel like I’m missing something in this that I would find interesting but have no idea what it is

I was indicting this milk toast region schedule since it first came out but as with all that requires passion there is another side to that coin. Something one of West Points proudest , I know you have gotten really close to some of them over the years, pointed out to me .How many great region gamers were there usually? One, two at the most outside a couple of the bigger classes. This will let the better teams in the state schedule a couple more against each other. There are still enough region games to decide it fairly, I think. I’m going to give it a chance but could turn against with quickness, lol.

This will allow the better teams, who don’t really care about the digit in the loss column, to add a premier team to help them improve. My O.S. team, after being roasted for their early dogs for years, have now strengthened the non district to include Madison Central and Picayune, along with a good test in NW Rankin. Some athletic directors will look to padding their record.

I know this will sound odd but the Biloxi-Meridian game on September 1st in Ray Stadium is one I am looking forward to. Should be a good matchup. We play Quitman the first game but the Biloxi game will be a good measuring stick for how Coach Boyles is doing with the Wildcat program.
Plus we had a great Big 8 rivalry with Biloxi back in the 1960’s and 70’s. It will be fun to renew that rivalry.

Biloxi should be a good test for the early season, but not good enough to beat a middle of the road or better 7A team. They lost a lot from one of their better teams last year, but their coach has been doing a good job of preparing them. If Meridian is as improved as we have been hearing, this will be a good game to fine tune the offense and special teams. If they lose to Biloxi, that would be a sign that they had better get better before the district gauntlet.

I completely agree with this.  When you schedule a gauntlet for a non-region schedule, you do it to better your team.  If losses do happen in that non-region gauntlet, then it's not a detriment at all.  It's a learning experience and a chance to improve your weaknesses before the games really matter.  Like you said, teams that do this are not concerned with overall wins and losses, but are concerned with post-season success where it truly does matter.

d'Iberville vs Columbia (Just because it's the first game and I'm curious to see if my Warriors can get back to their winning ways)

Picayune vs Brandon (This may be the biggest first game of the season in years. Other than not playing OG, Picayune has a chance to possibly stake claim to South State Champs in both 6A and 7A since they play Brandon, Gulfport, OS and D'Iberville in Non District) I wish we could've watched an OS vs Picayune real game last season. Jamboree was very competitive.

OS vs Madison Central (First look at OS without Hubbard in three years. Defense should be even better returning 9 and have a starting senior transfer from Gulfport. So basically 10 returners on a defense that shut down some good teams last season.)

OS vs Gulfport is probably going to be a big game, at least on paper, with possible Region Championship on the line but they better not get caught looking ahead because everyone in Region 4 7A is looking to be the ones to knock them both off of the top.

Mostly I'm just ready for any and ALL football!!!

You mean to tell me OS made a huge fuss over a kid wanting to transfer to Gulfport just to turn around and take one of their best defensive starters anyway? Look at God.

A little different circumstance on how they got him at Ocean Springs. His dad, who was formerly the DC at Gulfport was not retained by Pennock and took a job at Ocean Springs, so his son came with him.

I understand different circumstances i just will always find it hilarious OS fans wanted the kid to miss a year of football just because he wanted to go play with the coach he clearly had the closest bond with. The fact that they now have one of Gulfport’s best players makes it even funnier.

I see what you mean there, and you are right. LOL.

@Vott shouldn't y'all beat Petal like a drum, just like y'all did back in 1946 when y'all beat them 69-0?  Isn't that the expectation?

I will take a 7-6 win or a 56-49 win. You never know how rivalry games are going to play out.

I never saw anyone saying they wanted him to sit out his senior year but maybe I missed it. Mostly I saw people pointing out that following the head coach is not allowed and that's what would have to happen. I'd think thats what the gulfport staff should have advised him also but instead it sounds like they were willing for the kid to risk his senior year over the move. He ended up back in OS and they got their senior safety. Sometimes karma steps in.
