Big series win for State. Now up to 5-10 in the SEC, the path to the postseason feels more realistic than it did two weeks ago. Still probably need to get to 13 SEC wins. But with series against Florida, Kentucky, and Missouri, it’s doable. Ole Miss and Auburn series will be tough but don’t necessarily have to win either or both series, just need to avoid a sweep if you can handle business in some of these other series.

Need to keep it going against UF at Dudy Noble next weekend. They are similar to State, started SEC play horribly but playing better of late.

Did not realize how dominant State has been against Bama in baseball in recent years. State has won 12 of the last 13 series against Bama. And hasn’t lost a series in Tuscaloosa since 2010, which was probably the worst State team ever (early Cohen years).

The Florida series will shape up the rest of the season. If we can take the series, I will feel much better about post season. Also, I have had my feelings hurt with MS State baseball in recent years so I do not try to hang on too much

State is playing better, but the opponents haven't been as superior.  The fact that they have to dig themselves out of a hole is simply inexcusable.

SC is probably the second worst team in the league ahead of only Missouri. Bama is a good team. Not a great team but a good team. I think that’s a legitimately strong series win.

I agree on your point that the hole to climb out of is bigger than it ever should be. If you just salvage one game against Texas and LSU then you feel pretty good right now. But you got swept twice before the end of March and now you’re really playing catch up just to make the tourney. And hosting chances are probably long gone. I’m not someone who makes hosting the end all be all, I think making it a Super Regional is more important ultimately and you can do that without hosting, but obviously hosting makes the path a little more favorable.

The Dude wasn't built simply for regular season play

That’s the popular line State people like to use and I get it but coaches don’t get hired or fired over how many Regionals they hosted. It’s far more about advancing to Supers and the CWS.

Simply put, State has to sweep at least one series (really two) going forward to offset the earlier sweep losses. Defense is still suspect but pitching and hitting have improved.
Florida did sweep Missouri but for State winning two this upcoming weekend is the minimum. And honestly we really need to sweep. Though that will be difficult.
The hill is still very steep but the confidence has grown a smidgen lately.
We will see how it goes.

Well Lemo better start winning regionals and supers on the road then.  I think he feels like he can do as Mcdonnell did at louisville when they had more talent than anyone in their conference and just sit back and let the guys win the various starting roles regardless of position. If this team is really a good team, there is no reason why they started out 1-8 in conference and took him til the bama series to finalize a batting order.  This eval should have been done in the fall.  Over and out

I think it’s a middle of the pack roster talent-wise. I feel like they are one more starting pitcher and one more bat away from being really good. But those two things make a big difference.

I guess it depends on what the goals are. 8-7 in the last 15 probably makes the tourney. And they’d probably need a ridiculous finish like 11-4 or 12-3 to have a chance of hosting.

I do think the next two weekends will say a lot. If State doesn’t go at least 3-3 against Florida and Auburn then they might be in big trouble.

Reminds a bit of the 2013 team. Though I am not suggesting that this is a CWS team at all.

But that the pitching strength is in the bullpen.
No Hunter Renfroe but the hitting is decent.
It appears that the starters are all 4-5 innings max type of guys. And that was generally the case with the 2013 team (outside of Graveman).

Honestly we need to be 4-2 which really means a sweep against Florida.
To me 8-7 does not cut it. Really needs to be a minimum of 9-6 or better.
3-3 would be disappointing IMHO. Just because if we are going to have a successful season after the horrid start, we have got to exceed just being average from here on out.

Surprised….not Surprised…thankfully I was at Good Friday Service last night. It was almost 930P when I got into the car. Turned the radio on and Neil said the score is 11-3 Florida in the seventh inning. I promptly changed stations.

Already a bad weekend for Ole Miss and the pressure is on State to win two games. I have no confidence that we will actually do it.

It’s pretty remarkable to see how State won it all 2021 on the back of “doing the little things right”…. Because they’ve been absolutely horrible at the little things ever since. And it’s probably gonna cost Lemonis his job

Disastrous weekend for State and a bad weekend for Ole Miss. However Ole Miss at 10-8 is in much better shape than State at 6-12.
The Mayor’s Cup game is absolutely a must win for State and would be a good win for Ole Miss. However for Ole Miss, a loss here hurts just a little since it is a rivalry game but overall they will still be in good stead.
As I mentioned above, State’s season is toast. Though a win here might look good if we are to squeeze in the Tournament as low 3 or even 4 seed.

Yeah State needs a 3-1 week against Ole Miss and Auburn and I’m not convinced they don’t go 1-3 or 0-4.

This team is 6-15 against Q1 and Q2. Take out the series against Bama who you weirdly just own every year regardless of how good either team is, and it’s really a disaster..
