He told players this week he was not returning.  3 weeks before start of spring practice.

While it has been strongly rumored for 2 years he was going to do so at the end of the season each year. He even told some coaches last baseball season that next season (this most recent past one) would be his last. However it was indicated that he was returning, and even other coaches said as such, up until the moment he told the team he wasn’t.  Caught some people off guard at the suddenness of it.

makes one wonder if a private school that doesn’t currently have a coach threw a lot of money at him.

PCS hired a guy from Hoover.

He could come back like Marcus Boyles did at Petal after retiring. It’s all about the timing of the announcement kind of interesting. Either way I wish him the best he’s one of the best and a really good guy.

There was mention during playoffs he could retire and then come back 2-3 weeks later and be hired by school district as a type of aid or something. And basically still be the coach without having to do all the teaching stuff. And still double dip his pay.  But the just before Christmas break it was said he was coming back.  And that’s all till this week.  If anyone knew otherwise it was kept very quiet.

I could be completely wrong but I believe he has to be away from the school for like 90 days or so after submitting his retirement papers before he could rehire. Again that may not be on his mind at all but he could come back.

Dan Brady!

This is the name I been hearing a lot the last couple days. And apparently there is strong mutual interest.  In the Laurel Leader Call article that o screenshot the picture above from pierson straight up mentions the strong ties between west jones and bay springs.

So that’s who I would put my money on right now.

I’m under the impression that if you retire you have to wait 90 days to come back and that 90 days starts with the new school year.

Pierson was at Bay Springs prior to West Jones. It would be naturally to think Brady follows him to West Jones. There is a difference between 1A and 5A or 2A vs 6A now. You have to pass out of the wing T offense. Raleigh was somewhat successful passing out of this year. He will have more talent at West Jones.

More talent?  Nah just more kids. Bay Springs had 3 SEC football players this year.   The wing won't win 5A at WJ.  They don't got the talent Yune or WP got.  Hattiesburg got more talent too. Lots of 5A got as much or more talent.  People gone see how good Pierson did at WJ now he gone.

You are absolutely correct on all points. Pierson did an outstanding job and he let his assistants coach. West will be stepping up to 6A next season but so will Hattiesburg and Picayune. I’m not familiar with the coach at Bay Springs but they have had some elite talent the past few seasons. Coach Bud Blackledge is a good OC he won a state title at WC in 2015 then won another with WJ. Not sure if the new coach would keep him but I would as well as DC. Especially coming in so late

You mean 6a now.

Before Pierson arrived at WJ they were a ground ad pound type team.  They ran primarily i formation with 4 run plays and 2 pass plays.  They won lots of games but would get tired by the end of the year because usually they played 6-7 guys both ways every game. The o line guys played d line. Rb played lb.  Wr’s played cb.  It was easy to game plan for them.  The game they won was when they just put talented the other team.

Pierson rarely played anyone on his lines both ways. Usually if a kid did play both ways it wasn’t more than a handful of plays a game.  He coached up kids at every position. But his best teams came when he had a 1 every 7-8 year type of qb at the helm however.

I don’t think the style of offense will be the biggest issue.
