No surprise but USM is promoting Christian Ostrander to head coach at the conclusion of this season. Probably the best man for the job, think there’s a good chance he maintains the winning ways of Palmer and Berry.

Absolutely he will. Because he's going to still be the pitching coach. And that's been the strength of so miss since he got there.

Southern Miss finished the season strong and is definitely a #2 seed at worst, with a good chance of hosting.

I think their RPI is a little low to host. Most likely a 2 seed in an SEC Regional. And I wouldn’t hate their chances in most of those options. Baton Rouge, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, etc.

I didn't realize their RPI was only 28. Yeah, they'll need to get to the Sun Belt finals if not win the tourney to get into a hosting discussion.

They'll be a tough 2 seed for someone, they're playing well.

Early SEC tourney results of interest, Tennessee goes one and done, that probably means they’ll be on the road for a Regional. Bama beat Kentucky, great chance there are Regionals in both Tuscaloosa and Auburn this year, which would’ve been unthinkable a month ago.

they must know how to coach pitchers or simply recruit pitchers.

Auburn probably shouldn’t be a surprise, the run that Butch has had there is super underrated. Bama is definitely a shock, especially considering most of this run has happened after they fired Bohannon.

That Arkansas/A&M game was a good one.  I started watching right before Arkansas loses the bases and hit the GS in the 7th.

Tennessee this year has been a disappointment.   I didn’t think they’d have the regular season they did last year, but I expected them to be a firm Top 10 team the entire year.

I put Tennessee and A&M in the same boat. A lot of hype in the preseason, didn’t have the years they were expecting, but I would want no part of either of them as a 2 seed in my Regional. Not too dissimilar to Ole Miss last year, honestly.

I am very curious to see what the committee does with South Carolina. They were trending to be a HIGH national seed early in conference play but kinda fell apart down the stretch. Still finished with 16 SEC wins and a very good RPI,  but I think they went something like 3-9 in their last 12 SEC games. Didn’t do much in Hoover either, just beat Georgia and then lost twice.

If you made me call it right now, I think the SEC gets four Top 8’s (Florida, Arkansas, LSU, Vandy), I think Kentucky, Auburn, and Bama are all in really good shape to host, and then I think SC is squarely on the 16/17 line. They’ll either be one of the last hosts or one of the first 2 seeds. And then A&M and Tennessee seem like solid 2 seeds. Nobody else is in contention beyond that.

Vandy vs A&M.   A&M has been impressive to end the season.   Any chance they host instead of S Carolina?

I THINK A&M was a predicted 3 seed entering the SECT. IF so, they need to win tomorrow to have a chance to host I'd think.

Either way, they're hot at the right time and will likely be a tough out wherever they land.

In MS news, USM is in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship game tomorrow. Like A&M, I'm not sure that gets them a host spot with a win but both would be in the conversation.

I don’t think A&M will host if they win but they may move up to a 2 seed. Entering the series with State, they were on the bubble and the consensus was if State swept them, they would be out of the Tournament (unless won the SECT or had a good showing there). That Friday night game was the catalyst for them. We had a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth but could not hold it and since then A&M has been on a roll.

If USM beats ULL, they may get into the conversation of hosting. Their midweek losses to State, Ole Miss, Bama, UNO are biting them right now. If they had been 2-2 in those games they would 42-15 right now and a shoe in to host.

Midweek games are crucial and they can be the difference in hosting and not. But many people dismiss them because it is midweek pitching. But your midweek pitching is what wins you a Regional. It shows how much depth you have.

USM to Tuscaloosa would be advantageous to them. I think Bama will flame out in the Regional. Usually a team like them rides some emotional wave will be fall flat in the postseason.

I would not like their chances at Auburn because Auburn is a gritty battle tested team that has been there in the recent years. Not impossible for them win that regional but a tougher mountain to climb IMO.

That hurt someone’s feelings.  Wow.

Yeah there have been a lot of bid stealers this weekend, that one is jarring, though. Would expect Tulane to be the 4 seed in Baton Rouge, probably.

USM wins the Sun Belt tournament, congrats to them. Hosts will be announced later tonight. I think they probably fall just short of the Top 16, but it’s not a zero percent chance, they’re in the mix.

Yep, kudos to USM.

The RPI is 21 after that tourney championship. They'll be in the discussion but I don't think they'll get a host seed either. Had Coastal Carolina (most likely a host) made the Sun Belt championship vs USM with USM winning today, they MAY have given USM the bump they needed to host.

A&M is down 10-4 to Vandy in the 9th. A&M is currently 29th in the RPI and shouldn't move much at all even with this loss. They definitely should be a 2 seed after this SECT run.

Auburn is currently 19th in the RPI. While I'm fairly sure Auburn gets a host, it wouldn't overly surprise me if they don't and drop to a 2 seed.

Would be really tough to not give Auburn a host with 17 SEC wins.

Yesterday they were doing blind resumes for hosting.   One team had 20 wins against Top 50 RPI and an RPI of 6.  The other had 2 wins against Top 50 and an RPI of 10.   It was South Carolina vs Indiana State with Indiana State currently expected to get the nod.

They are both hosting, just announced.

8 hosts for the SEC. Wow.

No big surprise but USM will be on the road next weekend.

Is 8 SEC hosts a new record?

I can't imagine there's been 9 before, I don't recall 8 before but very well don't remember that happening recently.

Yes, 8 is the new record. Previous record was 7 hosts in 2016.
