He's doing what every assistant coach does when a head coach leaves during the school year. What offers has he gotten this off season that he's turned down to remain an OC with no job stability? They must've been bad.

That's his business. If someone hasn't told you then they probably don't trust you to keep your mouth shut about it. He's not the only remaining assistant left at OS. Every other assistant isnt doing what he's doing.

Why so defensive? I'm sure he's a good coach but there are much better options available.

This is interesting coming from a Gulfport "fan" (I suspect coach).  From conversations with my son and other coaches, they want Coach Bramlett and says he deserves the head job because of the all the work he did within the program.  This statement is even more entertaining due to the fact that he has been offered the OC position at Gulfport.  If he is not worth anything, then why is Coach Pennock desperate to keep him as his OC.  Pennock was only a head coach for one year at Pass before went to OS.  Coach Bramlett has worked for some prominent coaches in this state and has been calling the offensive for the last 4 years under Coach Pennock.  Bottom line he has the backing of all the assistant coaches, the players (including my son), and parents.

He’s being defensive with facts, because you are being very offensive without them.  And you’re not a Gulfport fan, or you wouldn’t be attacking him.  Gulfport offered him the moon, and he hasn’t taken it… yet.   Pennock wants him more than anything, and may ultimately get him.  He’s been the play caller for him the past four years, including Pass.  The numbers, and the results, are crazy.  He’s run his strength and conditioning program the last four years.  The results, again, have been phenomenal.  If the Athletic Director at Georgia had your attitude Kirby Smart would still be a coordinator.

I'm not being defensive. I'm simply pointing out that a lot of people who have no idea what they are talking are trying to trash a coach they don't know. They don't know who's interviewed, they don't know who's had offers, they don't know who has ties to who. Some apparently don't even know who calls plays for teams. People in the loop know because they are trusted with information and don't go around running their mouths or trashing people.

Just curious what does everyone think of Gulfport and Pennock? Is this a step in actually winning playoff games or just maybe taking a step to catch up with OS in district? Thoughts????

I personally think his ceiling at Gulfport is about what it is at Ocean Springs. Region title contender year and out. Maybe win a game or two in the playoffs. I see it being about what it has been the last decade plus for Gulfport. Until a 7A coast team shows they can break through and win a state crown, I cannot put faith that one will. The thing with Pennock is this, he better have them in South State within the first 3-4 years or he may be looking for new job.

I agree just looked and Gulfport has 1 playoff win in the last decade. I believe they have finished 1st or 2nd most of those years in district. It will be interesting to see what Gulfport fans and decision makers feel is their expectations. I still think OS is the head of class in that district.

I remember in 2018 Gulfport went 10-1 won the region and played a Petal team that was 5-6 and finished 4th in the region and Petal beat them 34-0.

It's funny how entitled Gulfport is coming off all of a sudden.  They've never won a state championship and have made only one finals appearance since the playoff format began in '82.

And since I can remember, visiting fans often equal or exceed the number of Gulfport supporters for games at Milner.  So from where has this sense of urgency sprung forth?

Every statement true, and I would add that going this route lends continuity to the program, including the assistants who remain loyal. The jr hi feeder system is also the best on the Coast, probably due to the good work of Mark Hubbard and the assistant coaches. Yesterday’s naming of an interim AD from within bodes well for keeping the job with the offensive coordinator who has done the heavy lifting on that side of the ball. Finally, some positive actions that will allow me to stop sounding so bitter. The previous coach, even in his leaving, has set the program up for continued success, if this hire is a slam dunk. Only time will tell, but from what I hear from assistant coaches, and what you hear from the players, maybe Bramlette is the man for the job.

Who is the interim AD?

Anything new?

Doesn’t seem to be anything, at least publicly, but the assistants and parents are all upbeat about the new hire for interim athletic director. Assuming that he is aware that he’s a facilitator for the coaching search, he’s been in the system for years, knows the coordinators that will be looked at, and can bring in other coaches from the state and area for the school board to consider. The situation calls for a unique approach to getting a new coach in place for spring, as the offense will have to change somewhat after losing the best player in the state. Lots of talent on both sides of the ball, including QB, but the focus might have to be on running a bit more. Promoting  the current O coordinator would lend consistency, and though the defense returns a lot, they lost that coordinator to the paycheck.

Are they trusting the interim to make that hire? I was told it was a “lame duck” situation where he just expected to keep things afloat until they can hire an AD and then HFC. Obviously could be completely wrong but that is just what I was told.

I’m thinking that he’s a facilitator for the search, and that the school board will make the hire (scary, right!). Whether the AD comes first is the unknown. You probably know more insider details than I do, but do know that the remaining assistants are all in on the offensive coordinator getting the promotion. That move also allows them to retain all other assistants, continuing the progress we’ve seen. I’ve talked to people from HOF ex players to parents to players to administrators to assistants to politicians with connections in the district, and the one thing in common is that they don’t have a clue what the board will do. Patience is the only I don’t have.
