I didn’t make up the stats or the data.

If you’re frustrated, it’s with the facts & the MDE. Not with me.

definitely not “obsessed” about HHS.

I do however care about truth & student athletes. And I do know a lot about the area. I’ve got family who went there. It was the best school in the region for a long, long time. Up until about 25 years ago. Unfortunately when the population starting moving west and PCS added a high school it affected the HPSD in a negative way. nobody’s fault. that’s just how things go. Not everything makes us feel warm & fuzzy. It happens. Whether or not we like it doesn’t affect the truth of the situation

Getting back to what started all this, Is Hattiesburg a more/less desirable job than say Starkville or other schools?

There is no doubt that discipline is a problem and has probably kept them from a State championship. They've had

the talent to do it. Coaches at every school have to deal with it. Have a super talented but undisciplined player, coach

would either run them to death, grab the facemask, yell, or send out of practice. Sometimes it works, but when you have

too many of those, you can't spend that much time of your practice dealing with it, when you need to be installing and

running plays over and over and over again. Vance was not dumb and realized at some point, that is the cards he was dealt.

That's why we saw the sideline antics, coming out to the hash marks, working the refs from the 1st QTR on, with the

assistant coaches following suit. And it worked. Hattiesburg beat some pretty good teams to get to The Rock this year,

(not Picayune, that was stolen, but Hattiesburg did play well enough to benefit at the end...).

They will get a good coach though, but let's not make them out to be the most desirable job in the state. It's just not.

One name I haven't heard is Gandy. He coached there forever, was the head coach at Quitman, and had success there. Now, he is the DC at Meridian. Would he not be a good candidate?

You’re taking about Rashad Gandy he was DC at HHS for awhile. He left and took the HC position in Quitman, he left Quitman for th DC position in Meridian. That leads me to believe he will be the next coach at Meridian. Shelton Gandy who is the HC at Meridian doesn’t stay in one place very long.

That I can’t answer he originally from Waynesboro where he was a standout running back. He went on to USM had a great career. He moved around quite a bit assistant coach at a couple of stops in Texas, he’s coached on the JUCO level. He come home for a couple of seasons and coached Wayne County his father passed and he left. He went to Hattiesburg as OC for a season maybe two. When Rashad Gandy got the job at Quitman he left and went there as OC before taking the Head job at Meridian. Rashad is his nephew the Gandy family in Wayne County is full of standout football players lol.
But I can’t answer the why part. Shelton is probably 57-58 years old.

Steve Buckley have a shot? Definitely has a resumé to get the job

In my opinion, he would be the worst candidate. From what I have heard, part of what got him run off from Jones was his lack of discipline and their inability to win games with pretty good talent. I Don't really see him being the right guy for that job. It may be time for him to fade off into the shadows!

Well guys, how about you all drop a few names! LOL. Dangling the carrot in front of the horse is no fun for us not in the know!

Thats just something you will have to deal with. And I will let HHS administration announce the official hiring of the new coach. If others want to say who applied or say who the new coach will be thats on them.

Hattiesburg Football was very good under Doug Merchant.  If it's not a promotion from within, doesn't it seem like a no-brainer to attempt to get someone from his coaching tree if all else fails?
