As an Ole Miss fan I want it to clear up to the point we play in Atlanta for the SECCG. I know it’s a chance to get knocked out of the playoffs with a loss but scared money don’t win money. If our defense plays like it did Saturday and our offense keeps playing to our strengths with the right schemes and reads then I’d love nothing more than to win our way into the playoffs and not have to sit back on selection day worrying. There’s not a SEC team that scares me to the point where I say Ole Miss can’t beat them.

Also the Big 10 guaranteed 4 is the biggest fraud. Only Ohio St plays the other 3. Penn St doesn’t have to face Indiana and Oregon, Oregon doesn’t have to face Penn St and Indiana, Indiana doesn’t have to face Penn St and Oregon. If they did you’d be looking at Penn St/Indiana playing for who gets their 3rd loss in an elimination game and they would prob only get Oregon and Ohio St in. Maybe a 3rd with who won that game and whoever did that would be their only top 25 win. Show me other than their record where Indiana and Penn St deserve to be in. Penn St lost their only game against a top 25 team and Indiana hasn’t faced one. All I’ve seen the last couple years is the SEC needs to go to a 9 or 10 conference team schedule but look at this. As an Ole Miss fan I’d give a left toe to get Penn St or Indiana 1st round.

I do agree that Indiana and Penn State are probably not championship contenders. No issue with either of them getting in though if both go 11-1. Weak schedules yes but been fairly dominant in them at least. However what I’ll say on Penn State is that while I don’t think they’re a true title contender, they may still get a home playoff game and I’m not sure I’d want to have to play in Pennsylvania in December.

Will be curious to see where the playoff committee has Ole Miss now. Could be a tell for what OM needs to happen in the final weeks and how safe they are by simply beating Florida and State.

I wouldn’t say Penn St was fairly dominant when I watched them struggle at home against Bowling Green, battled it out with Illinois and lucked up in OT against USC. They’re lucky Riley choked and got away in the 2H with what had them winning in 1H. 0 TD’s against a competent Ohio St defense at home. Plus they’ve barely even left Happy Valley this year. Also can’t bring up Ole Miss’ OOC schedule without questioning theirs as well. December or whenever with Allar at QB and no running game works for me. Defense will just pin their ears back.

But there’s no issue with you if Indiana gets in at 11-1 with 0 top 25 wins and only one top 25 opponent? Look at that schedule. Every SEC team in running for a playoff spot would be the same. If they deserve in at 11-1 then so does Army if they finish 11-1. They’re a feel good story but their biggest thing so far is soundly beating Nebraska.

Like I said, not a championship contender but they’ve mostly taken care of business.

Indiana’s schedule is bad but there’s something to be said for being 10-0 with 9 wins by 14+. I also hesitate to say all the SEC teams in the running would do the same when Bama lost to Vandy, OM lost to Kentucky, Tennessee lost to Arkansas, etc.

New rankings out has #11 Ole Miss @ #6 Penn St. I’ll take it!!!

Pro: that matchup (plus a possible second round matchup with BYU) is one of the absolute dream scenarios for Ole Miss.

Con: Sitting at 11, you’re basically the last at-large team in. Movement behind Ole Miss could bump them out even if OM doesn’t lose again. In other words, might need some help.

I’m going to go ahead and sound the alarm bells on this and I don’t think OM fans are gonna like it… I think the committee puts in a 10-2 Georgia over a 10-2 Ole Miss. Call it politics if you want but I have a hard time seeing UGA getting left out if they go 10-2 against that schedule.

You bring up Georgia at 10-2 if they beat Tennessee will leave out Ole Miss but fell to realize that what happens if Texas and Bama play in the SECG. Bama lose, they will have 3 losses and are gonna get left out. They currently sit at #10. It would be an elimination game for them just as it would be for Ole Miss. Texas lose and have 2 losses, what’s their best win? Vandy? Can’t really fall back on beating Michigan now. Same goes for if a 10-2 Tennessee were to play Texas in the SECCG or a 10-2 Georgia/Texas rematch. If one of those lose to Texas they’re getting their 3rd loss and eliminated. If Texas loses they have nothing to fall back on especially with their SEC schedule. All Ole Miss has to do is win out and if they don’t play in the SECCG the chips will still fall where they need to if they do.

Do I think Ole Miss is a Playoff caliber team? Absolutely.

Could I see them getting jipped in the end? Absolutely.

It happens. It absolutely does. Might not. But it also might. With that in mind OM could use some help.

I agree but by that logic there are SEC teams that are the same way. OM hasn't played Texas, Tenn, or Bama. Texas hasn't played OM, Tenn, or Bama. In fact only UGA has or will play the top SEC teams, in Bama, Tenn, OM, plus Clemson.

Am I the only one that thinks whoever plays Texas in the SECCG is going to beat them?   We talk about OMs schedule being soft, but Texas is as bad if not worse.

Was looking at that earlier. Why exactly are they No. 3 right now? I would argue Tennessee’s resume is better and Tennessee is only 7. If Texas loses to A&M, I’m not sure what the case for putting them in the Playoff is. Would mean they’re a 2 loss team with no quality wins.

I don’t know why it hasn’t happened already but I sincerely hope the Bryan Building in Starkville is beginning to wake up to what the situation truly is in-state right now. Ole Miss is running circles around State in every way with football right now.

Let me put it this way… in the last decade, State’s BEST regular season finishes were four different instances where they finished 8-4. Again, reiterating that this is the BEST State has done post-2014

You want to know what the WORST record Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss program has had in a full 12 game season? Yep, 8-4.

Somewhere along the way, State’s ceiling and Ole Miss’s floor became one and the same. That is completely unacceptable and a failure on numerous individuals. Kudos to Ole Miss for having their crap together…. State has been the total opposite.

And I realize Mike Leach dying makes this complicated, but everything pre-Leach, post-Leach, and frankly some things while Leach was still with us, point to a football culture that is not close to where it needs to be to have success at the level its arch rival and most similar conference peer is now having.

I still think the data is coming in since NIL and the portal have only been a major factor for a few years, but I don’t see putting a huge emphasis on high school recruiting anymore.
When schools are able to lock a player down with a contract and get something in return when they leave, it will mean more, but as it stands you don’t know where that player will be in one or two years.

That being said, the more successful schools will be able to grab up players that were over looked coming out of high school after they have a good season at their current school and the less successful schools will be getting the players that didn’t live up to expectations at the bigger schools.
However, it’s always better to get their signature than to not get their signature.  Lol

There's not one.

Evidently this just depends. Imagine if we had gotten Deion Smith on the team this year? He basically had his helmet in hand walking out for the first practice but could never get his summer school grades approved to start at Ole Miss. So apparently there still some value on going to class and making a grade for some.

The the non-qualifier things seems to be far more rare than it once was. Seemed like 10+ years ago you’d have several guys in every signing class that never qualified and had to go JUCO. Now that seems less common.
