Is it just me or is there only 23 schools in 7a?
-
Coast is GC, Picayune, Goula, West Harrison, Long Beach, Hancock.
-
I was under the impression Natchez would be 5A.
-
I wouldn't hate that.
-
Kinda curious how it works out. Don't mind GC playing Hattiesburg, WJ, SJ, Petal. Hate the trips to Terry or JPS schools. Those are looooooonnnnggggg.
-
Hattiesburg was in there too. Not just WC.
-
Give us an idea of region 3 in that scenario.
-
Just going to throw my 2 cents in, but OS is every bit as good as those teams listed. I don't think anyone that hasn't really seen them in person can really understand how good OS is this year. IMO it's the best team OS has had.

96, 97, and 98 South Panola had one loss in each of those seasons. It was Moss Point every time. 96 and 97 in the title game and 98 they played in the first game of the year so technically South Panola lost back to back games to Moss Point.

Cal Prep top 5 5A game, East Central vs. Picayune this Friday

This may be the best Picayune team to really ever play. Big words but can anyone argue? -
Oh I agree. I just know the last time GC was 6a they were in that awful map of region 3-6a. Talk about mentally and physically exhausting for kids to travel three hours one way for basically every away game while also playing in the toughest division as the smallest school.
-
In that instance GC could possibly go north because they were there before.
-
I get the sentiment. You don’t think teams can lose and still be decent? I’m just curious. What about West Point with a losing record? Are they just automatically bad because of that record? Injuries are part of the game. Hopefully guys get healthy and they can put things together.

I'm just curious about your bad George County assessment. I know your greyhounds beat them pretty good but GC hasn't been whole since the Gulfport game. They've played without their starting corner and without their RB and played with a rotating OL due to injuries. They also have less than 10 seniors on the team. I get the idea of being bad. Most don't know circumstances and that this team is mostly sophomores and even freshmen playing. OS is really good. Don't take away from your own win by stating that GC is bad. GC had a lead against Gulfport and had massive plays called back at the end of the game that would've put them in position to win. I get it. 0-3. Loss to Greene Co. Again, sophomores and injuries. Maybe that makes GC bad. IDK. I'm defending to say that once this team gels and gets it's legs under them they can be very dangerous.

That would be interesting for 6A regions if Gautier were to stay 5A.

Laurel is literally the smallest 5A school with Vancleave. That's why there were 33 schools in 5A. No way they jump up far enough to be in 6A. Only way that happens is if they count 7-12th at Laurel.

Go check this out man. If it don't show you anything then I can't do anything for you. https://www.misshsaa.com/2020/10/29/2021-23-mhsaa-classifications/

I get it. But don't you think it has a little bit to do with having TWO D1 Tailbacks? Maybe? I mean he did inherit some really good players. I think not enough is said about that. What happens when those guys leave will really be able to tell.
-
I actually think, and Picayune is the caveat here, that the typical 5A powers will stay 5A other than West Jones. I believe WJ, GC, Hattiesburg all go 6A with Goula and possibly Petal dropping. Brookhaven could possibly be 6A as well. South Panola would drop too I believe. BUT Picayune, West Point, Laurel, and Wayne Co have a great shot at staying 5A with Laurel a lock to stay 5A. You have to think that with the new classification that the top of the current 4A will move up to 5A so I see Laurel comfortably staying.
-
They're literally the smallest 5A school. Actually, LHS and Vancleave were both tied and both played 5A instead of 4A. There is currently 33 teams in 5A. HIGHLY doubtful Laurel moves up to 6A unless there is this massive influx of students that nobody knows about.
-
I didn't say it would be an issue. It's just different than the past two weeks for sure. I know Picayune's defense is pretty tough.
-
Yes, I believe you're right.

We're young. Starting RB and center didn't play. Starting Slot moved to RB. Backup slot was injured earlier in the week during practice. So had about 4-5 guys out of position on a really short notice. We have 7 seniors on the entire team. Mostly starting sophomores. They're talented for sure. It's just an adjustment for them. Penalties have been untimely and mistakes have been made. They play hard and they've been in every ball game. This group is tough. They're gonna be special. I think they'll continue to grow and get better as the year progresses. Got a tough one this week at OS.
-
I'll say Picayune should win this just based on what they have coming back this year. Gulfport is good. It will be the first spread team that Picayune faces so some adjustments vs playing two straight Wing T teams. They'll spread Picayune out a little more on defense. That could possibly be challenge and take some time to adjust to. I think they probably will. I do think Gulfport can slow Picayune down offensively unless Poplarville and JDC are just that good on defense to hold them to 21 and 28. I didn't watch either game so I can't really judge that. Gulfport has a really talented RB that can make one cut and he's gone. Possibly may present problems. May not. I'll say Picayune 24 Gulfport 17.

LOL at D'Iberville complaining about bad calls.
