Laurel’s defense is starting to get gassed.

Laurel QB has thrown 3 int’s so far, but their DL has been good.

Understood Big Poppa. I remember those dog fights we had back up there in 2001 and yes we won up there, but I think what happened last week will prepare us for tonight.

If OM beats Bama I'll be pleasantly surprised, but it could happen though. If Auburn beats aTm, then what's gonna happen in College Station? They obviously can't afford to get rid of Jimbo, but will there be a complete coaching staff overhaul from top to bottom with Jimbo being the only leftover?

You may have a point there Deonte, but "road" Laurel is a totally different animal than "home" Laurel. I feel like if we had to go up there to Watkins Field we would probably be in a dog fight, but I don't think that will be the case tonight. I think Picayune will be locked in tonight and will take care of business. The real season starts tonight.

What a rip off! LOL! That might be where the difference in fans and coaches come into play. If I spend my hard earned money on a ticket then I want to get my money's worth and not feel shortchanged.

I think the true toss up would be East Central vs. West Jones. That game could literally go either way and if either team won it wouldn't surprise me one bit. There are valid arguments for East Central winning and there are valid arguments for West Jones winning. If there is an advantage in this game it would simply be the home team in West Jones because they would have their home crowd behind them. That seems to be the only advantage in this one which isn't much because East Central could make that a moot point as well.

Well if they don't that will be good. We've just dealt with it so much and I'd like us to play a full football game without having to worry about hot clock. We are at that time of year where we need the full game for endurance purposes. We need to get used to playing full length football games.

I have a feeling this game could get ugly real quick. I don't think it will be like the knock down drag out games that we've had against Laurel in the past.

Will we get into a hot clock tonight against Laurel? If we do I hope it will be late in the ballgame. I feel like I don't get my money's worth when the oil in my truck's engine is still hot. I'd like us to win convincingly, but I certainly don't want a shortened ball game either.

Yeah sure. I guess Barry had to be good with it LOL! But Jack was a great play-by-play announcer, even with the imperfections. I know State fans miss him for sure.

Good lord, that would be one heck of a drive for Picayune. We would definitely want to play somebody week 2, but I don't think that drive would be feasible.

Understood and I certainly don't want to get my hopes up either. I just think he's the type of coach we need to get us to the NCAAT. I remember back when Stansbury was coach and we were regulars in the thing. I also remember hosting #1 Florida in the hump back in 2007 and not having a place to sit. I had to stand the entire game, but man was it electric in there.

If your best offense is a good defense then I like our chances to make an NCAA tourney run. It's not going to be easy, but no one ever said it would be. I think making the NCAAT is a very basic and minimum expectation that this team has. Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but if there's anyone can do it in year one it's Jans.

Let's see what Jans can do. I think he will have them playing hard and I like how he emphasizes defense. If they keep that full court press on I think they can wear down Akron offensively. Once our men's team gets fully used to running it, they'll set themselves up to be a hard team to beat and that can get us past the first round of the NCAA tournament. Does this men's team have enough offensive firepower to win games when you need lots of scoring? I'm not so sure, but if they can be effective defensively they may be ok in that department. Jans might need a couple more years to get things (by year 3) where he wants them, but if they get some things figured out this year they definitely can get to the second round of the NCAA tournament. We've needed a coach line Jans for a very long time and I'm glad we have him.

That's the thing, even when we lost games with Vic, we still played hard and fought to the very end. I can handle losses as long as we put up a 4 quarter fight. If this women's team makes the NCAA tourney and is able to get to the 2nd round I'll be pleased. I really like the depth that we have. It just seems like we haven't had that kind of depth in a while and I think that will help things in the long run.

Here's another thought along State Women's Basketball lines: Jessika Carter was 4 blocks shy of a triple-double last night in her first game back in over a year and a half. How amazing is that?

Great opening wins by State men's and women's basketball teams. I feel like Purcell has already made an immediate impact there. I'm not trying to predict anything, but I think our women's team can be something special. I knew they would probably beat MVSU, but the way they won that game yesterday felt like a Vic team.

Karma will come back to bite Pierson in the butt and it will probably happen sooner rather than later.
