A players father told me that against WJ's full starting defense Hill had negative yardage. And west full starting offense went 1 series. The defense went 2 before subbing. Don't know what to say other than that.

Thats different than I was told. I was told the starting offense looked good in its 1 series before they started mixing in a bunch of backups. The starting defense went 2 series before backups. WJ kicking game needs work (missed 1 extra point and a fieldgoal attempt. And that meridian's stud RB has -4 yards on about 6 carries.

Not yet but it soon will. South Jones had a 9th grader in basketball last year lead their varsity team to the playoffs for the first time that I can honestly remember. Over the summer it was announced that he would be going to MRA. That’s just over 2 hours away. There was an article in local paper that was very similar to a kids college signing day article.

South Jones and Forrest Hill won’t make the playoffs. The 5th and 6th place teams could be 3rd or 4th place in region 4. That is the only safe bets currently.

From what I’m hearing the defense has changed quiet a bit. The offense has typically been “A” first and 90% of the time with a little “B” and “C” thrown in it is shifting to a lot more “B” first with some of the rest.

They didn’t play one. Will get to see them for 2 quarters vs meridian at the jamboree. The starters won’t play but 1 or 2 series most likely.

Madison Central at West Jones week 1

One could write down the names of Brookhaven, Laurel, West Jones. Wayne County, and Hattiesburg on separate pieces of paper, toss them around, and throw it in the air and randomly pick them up to chose places 1-5. There’s honestly no telling. Brookhaven May be the odd one out here as it seems they have had slightly less talent than the others the last 8 years or so but that’s for sure not typical of them. They were close to putting it together and finish higher in pecking order last year. For that matter so was Natchez who had the talent to compete with any of these other 5 but they got our coached. They bring back most of their kids and didn’t they get a new coach?

They should be a threat for 3-4 more years. Junior high teams loaded last year. 8th grade o-line had 4 kids 6 foot 260+. One was a laurel transplant that I know laurel coaches are trying to get him to come back. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of 9th graders on the varsity sidelines after junior high season ends.

Hattiesburg has the worst uniforms. What even are their school colors these days?

WJ was without 6 starters, and 13 overall, with covid when they played MC last year. 4 of the missing starters were defensive players. WJ did not play a single game last year at full strength. They were missing at least 3 expected to be starters pre-season, every game. But at a point a pre-season backup-to-be ends up becoming a starter after how many games? 1? 3? I was told WJ had 34 different kids get a start last year. By the end of the season they had quiet a number of 9th and 10th. graders playing regularly. On paper this year they may return 10 starters. But it may as well be 19. They did lose their best player, wr/db Mathew Nixon, for the year with torn acl in summer camp.
